  1. When he was first called up, Josh Reddick was certainly a major prospect. So I disagree with you. This kid is not being called up "early." He's in Pawtucket, and he was playing well there. We have impending holes in a couple positions he can fill and I would be shocked if he wasn't back up this September if we need an infielder. He looks like a guy who's advanced faster than the org has anticipated and the last time I checked he was in the lower middle of the Soxprospects top 10 so this definitely isn't a guy coming out of nowhere. BTW Navarro's career minor league line is a pretty decent .281/.348/.429. Not world-beating, but creditable, especially for a shortstop -- there's not a lot of SS right now that have a big league line any better than that. This guy may not be high profile, but IMHO it's more because he's underrated and a bit unheralded than because he's no good.
  2. My, isn't that gloomy. Two reasons for an early arrival, either a desperation move or maybe, just maybe, the guy might be ready to get a taste? He's hitting pretty well in Pawtucket, better than could have been reasonably anticipated.
  3. We can hope for some against-you-former-team mojo to be at play perhaps?
  4. Yankees lose 3-2 against Toronto -- we pick up a game.
  5. Really solid game by Lackey.
  6. Lowrie getting on base started both of Boston's rallies (granted the first one was on an E7 -- but still)
  7. Likely corresponding moves Y. Navarro to Pawtucket B. Hall to infield
  8. It is also not "mediocre."
  9. No, he hasn't. He has been only a bit above average, though.
  10. Ahh Drew haters. What would we ever do without them. No seriously, I'm curious. Might be an interesting experience.
  11. Sorry, no way we're going to that much effort to get rid of Drew when his contract just expires after next year. And we already have his heir lined up, so no way we sign two big name outfield FA's this offseason. The most they'd do is maybe waive him next August and play Kalish if Drew isn't getting it done.
  12. I'd be happier with a Dunn signing if it was to replace Papi rather than Beltre, but Dunn has made it clear he'd rather not DH so that may not happen. Either way, sure, bring on Dunn, and if you can, bring on another guy too. Dunn can suck defensively in a couple different positions, so bringing him in doesn't limit you that much.
  13. It's still a better chance than most teams have in any given year. Hold onto hope guys.
  14. Wouldn't put a lot of money on CHW not re-upping Konerko if they think they're close.
  15. I get so tired of "mediocre player X is a woman" and all the vulgar variations thereof So very, very tired. This kind of insult is so old and well-chewed that it appears numerous times in the bible. If it was ever funny, which it isn't but if it was, it must have been thousands of years ago. Is changing it up and showing a bit of creativity in your thoughtless knee-jerk insults all that much to ask? Can't you at least come up with some other cheap shot?
  16. If being optimistic about my team's outlook and resenting the negative nancies who do the lemming dive well before anything is decided makes me a pompom waiver, especially in the eyes of the likes of Jacko, then rah rah!
  17. Coming down with a bad case of see-you-next-year on this roster. Combine the Pedroia thing with Saltalamacchia and Ellsbury I think it's time to confront the possibility that the Sox have started to mail it in and shut down any of their assets that they think are going to be more important to next year's run than this year's longshot. The telltale would be if Daniel Bard went down with convenientexcuseitis or an inflammation of the inningslimit tendon sometine near the end of the month.
  18. He did the crime, he should do the time. I only wish Congress was more stringent about who lied before its panels, but then we wouldn't have very many executives, Congressmen, Senators, or CEO's left.
  19. Buchholz is going to place second. I'm more concerned that he keep making progress with his pitches. He's not quite all the way there yet. When he's mastered the contact stuff he's working on now and really learns how to balance his repertoire, there may yet still be better years for Buck.
  20. Conditioning would be my guess.
  21. If he can't hit for power in Colorado...
  22. Still a pretty pivotal win. We could have easily lost ground..
  23. That has to suck. Sounds like Ellsbury's pretty upset. I hope he's not getting the kind of hate mail I'm afraid he's getting. This whole mess isn't his fault.
  24. We're going to be signing him longterm to big money. Yes I *am* worried that it took him as long as it did to get good, because that suggests that there are flaws in his game that could very easily reassert themselves as he hits 35.
