So did they -- when they originally signed him. The renegotiation happened because those expectations changed. If we have a situation where Ross gets pinch hit for and then Salty gets banged up you might see Napoli finish out a game. That's probably the closest you'd come to seeing Napoli play catcher. Which is a pity, he was a competent catcher defensively, but his health won't allow it. -
Yeah, he needs a few more reps, which I thought he did back in Spring when I was arguing against his being up in the first place. He's an exciting prospect, he just needs more time to develop.

Not too concerned about the rate stats of a pitcher just now coming back from TJ. Even if I didn't think he'd improve, I'm not counting on him for much this year any way. De la Rosa is a longer term project.

He wasn't brought in to catch. In fact the whole reason for the contract renegotiation fiasco we endured this summer was because expectations of Napoli changed when it came out that he wasn't healthy enough to catch without risking injury. -
All you ask of a replacement starter is not getting knocked out early and keeping the game winnable. Aceves meets or exceeds that standard, and for a guy who's spent the majority of the last year plus in short relief, that's impressive

Can't hate what Aceves gave us last night. 5 and 3 is what you hope for from a #6 guy.

He's got enough deception to keep hitters missing and he can provoke a lot of bad contact. That's a potent combination. It's what made Hideki Okajima so effective.

I would have been fine with easing Drew in by splitting time between him and Iggy for a few weeks. Drew's coming back from a concussion. There's a logic in the gentler approach.

I agree. At least for now, Drew is not endearing himself. We should have cut Carp and kept Iglesias on the roster to insure ourselves against Drew happening to struggle out of the gate -- which is what is happening. I do not understand why Mike Carp is currently on this roster and Jose Iglesias is not. Counting Salty's ability to cameo at 1B we're 3 deep there right now without Carp.
