  1. Levy Tapia is a 2006 draft and follow who was the Sox's 38 rd pick in 2005 out of Colorado's H.S. He became an JC All American in his first and only year at Lamar JC in Colorado showing that he could hit for both average and power. Tapia who will be 20 yrs shortly after the minor leason begins is a right handed hitter and 5-10 about 200 LBS who didn't played very much in the GCL in 2006 after he signed and will return to the GCL in 2007 where he would share the catching position with top prospect Tyler Weedem. The Sox haven't gotten good results from prospects from the light air areas before so it would be interested to see what the Sox have in Tapia.
  2. That's why i problem with Scout.com. Neither Still or Papelbon are among the Sox top 50 prospects. Papelbon don't trown any harder than in the low 80's (remember this a player that was passed by all ML organizations for almost 48 rounds) The key for Jon Still its his bat and he didn't show much of it in Lowell last year, as a catcher his receiving and throwing arm are way below average, with Luis Esposito and Jon Egan more than likely beig the catchers in Greenville, Still will more than likely return to Lowell.
  3. There are a few names that while they aren't new on the GCL roster but they didn't play much in 2006 and are still prospects, like; Levy Tapia c Ryan Colvin RHP Luis Sumoza RF Matt Sheely CF Rafael Cabreja RF Wang-Yi Lin RHP Chih-Hsiang Huang 3B
  4. 700. i agree that they need a better hitter at first base, but i don't see happening until to close the end of July.
  5. The problem with Drew hitting second its who will hit fifth behind Manny, because other wise he won't see a pitch to hit and please don't say Youkilis.
  6. that its right we need someone to strike out after the first batter gets on base or we need to open the line up with a strike out.
  7. Pedro JR is a very average as a prospect. Nothing like his father.
  8. Out of the 162 Sox minor leaguers that went to Spring training in 2006 only 103 will go back to Spring training in 2007.
  9. The Sox has signed OF Alex Ochoa to a minor league contract with an invitation to Spring training. Ochoa who has been playing the last four years in Japan is 34 yrs
  10. As a starting first baseman or even as a third baseman Youkilis is below Average as a hitter. I don't mind him being an utility type of a player, but not as a starter.
  11. Anyone had to admire kevin Youkilis, a player with very limeted baseball skills to make it to the ML can't be ignored, however he isn't the caliber of player that should be playing as a starter on a contending club.
  12. Position for position, Pedroia should be a better hitter for his position than youkilis is for his.
  13. 2006 was Yooukilis first year playing as a regular in the AL, teams didn't have a book on him and he hit over 300 ( may have been around 310) in the first half of the season, in the second have when they learned how to pitch to him ( don't have the stats with me) he finished the season around 270 ( I think it was 269) a big drop off from the first half. I believe that he is closer to the second half hitter than to the first half. Not only does he has a slow bat, but to many holes in his swing.
  14. 108 RBI????? for Youkilis and even 17 HR that its very unlikely. Sox fans always likes blue collar players, but this love affair with Youkilis its a joke.
  15. Unles you're a doctor and are very familiar with Papelbon issues not one knows the answer of that, Piniedo isn't the answer he may had pitched better as a reliever than he did as a starter but he has never close out games and his stuff may be short for that, like i posted earlier the talks among baseball people is that when the Sox breaks camp that Papelbon will be the closer again.
  16. Not one knows if a player would come back to be the same player after an injury, but Crisp may had been rush to come back last year, the type of injury that he had isn't the type of injury that players don't come back from with the right tratment and rest, while i am not a doctor don't see a reason why he couldn't be healthy from this injury.
  17. You can't based Crisp OBP on 2006 he was never right after he hurt his finger, Crisp is the better hitter of the two and not only he has more speed than Youkilis but more pop, Youkilis the only thing he brings to the table is the base on balls.
  18. I agree that Francona doesn't believe in the running game which is a mistake a team can't depend of the home run, also Lugo and Crisp can score from first base on a double Youkilis can't and besides HR you would expect Ortiz or Manny to hit them.
  19. The Sox are paying 9 millions a year to Julio Lugo not for his glove but to be their lead off hitter in 2007, but who be the #2 hitter? There has been some talk that Youkilis may be the one, but the only thing that Youkilis brings to the table is that he takes a lot of pitches, but Youkilis doesn't hit to the right side (unless he gets jam) and worst of all strikes out way to much, in another words doesn't have the skills for the spot. Coco Crisp made his name being the Guardians #2 hitter where he has the speed and pop for the spot. the down side of Crisp hitting in the #2 hole its that it takes some of his running game away from him because of hitting in front of Ortiz and Manny.
  20. Bosox; When a player hasn't even played in Low A ball like Negron has its very hard to tell if the player can play in ML, but Negron has very good potential. Argenis Diaz also has very good potential and was the reason that Negron played third base last year in the GCL. Diaz's bat isn't as advanced as Negron and will play in lowell in 2007, but its the better with the glove of the two.
  21. Who said half way theough the season?
  22. The talk that Papelbon will be the Red Sox closer when the season starts keeps growing among the baseball people.
