    I think the Yanks are in the playoffs for sure. The sox have an excellent chance, but their injuries make them just short of a lock. Thing is, the sox had everything go right offensively (even with Drew down, Reddick came up and was the balls) and everything go wrong on the mound. Lester and Paps have been awesome. Beckett was great but is hurt. Lackey is the worst pitcher in the AL. DiceK is out for the yr. Buchholz is out for the yr. Wakefield should retire. Miller aint the answer. Etc, etc, etc.

    BBYD, Bedard isnt being babied. His knee issue has flared back up. They are hoping he just needs a week. He was a desperation pickup, a la Smoltz and Wells from yesteryear. They had to do something, so it is better than nothing. But he's regularly been reaching 100 pitches by the 6th which is why he isnt going deep into games.

    You lose Buchholz, DiceK, and Beckett and you're gonna struggle into the finish.

    a700, in all fairness, the sox rotation was supposed to be their strength. They had three guys on July 1 who fit into the ace to #2 slots and looked solid going into the playoffs. But losing Buch and now Beckett for a stretch hurts the team. Injuries happen. I think the biggest issue for the sox has been losing DiceK and seeing Lackey be the worst SP in baseball. When the back of your rotation falls apart, you can survive if the front of the rotation is solid. But when you lose your back half to injury/ineffectiveness and then you start losing your #1 and #3, you run into trouble

    sprains come in 3 grades. Grade 1, you are out 1-2 weeks, grade 2, you are out 2-6 weeks depending on the rehab, grade 3 requires surgery. My guess is if it isnt mild and doesnt need surgery, he might be out for the rest of the month

    Well, that's the thing. We dont know the grade of the sprain, so we dont know if it is a little or a severe sprain. He walked off under his own power, so I would say it's more likely a slight sprain, but without releasing the grade, you cannot be 100% certain

    Confirmed on NESN. MRI showed a sprain (ie some ligament damage) but nothing to the tendons. Unsure of timetable. That's probably best case for the sox, although they did not reveal the grade of the sprain.

    He said it locked up and he felt it "slip out of it's socket." Well, Beckett isnt a medical person, so he wouldnt know that the ankle doesnt have a socket, but if there was laxity to the ankle, then a ligamentous issue (ie sprain) would need to be ruled out. You could also have the same symptoms if you had something akin to Schilling had, where there is a loose tendon slipping around the ankle and it feels like something is out of place. An MRI could sort it all out. It could be nothing also.

    The problem is, your "new blood" has either been injured this season or isnt coming down the pipe. The sox pitching cupboard at the upper levels is bare

    He has a special bat, that much is for sure. He has a ton of opposite field power which impressed me a lot today. Now lets see if Mo can close it out

    we replaced them with guys we couldnt predict would be this good. Losing Chamberlain and Soriano was lessened when Robertson, Ayala, and Wade threw otherworldly. Losing Hughes was lessened when Nova, Garcia and Colon pitched well.

    BTW, Detroit and Texas are a game apart in the loss column. If Detroit keeps surging, there might be a benefit of winning the WC. Nobody wants to go to Texas in the short series

    NESN is saying sprained ankle. He was walking on it without even a limp. He might miss a start, but he wont miss much time at all. He'll be fine

    You guys are complaining about players being injury prone and now you want to extend Bedard? The Mariners have been trying to pawn this guy off for a big haul since they got him in 2008. He has thrown 280IP over the past 4 seasons, which would be good for a reliever. His stuff has declined (he's 2mph off from where he was in 2007), he doesnt throw strikes anymore and is at most a 6IP pitcher. Now, the knee that cost him a few weeks this yr is barking again. This guy is the definition of a rental.
