  1. So sad. Complications in that area may include bleeding, which could be life threatening. It sounds like this isnt a life threatening issue at this time
  2. I honestly think you have your head stuck in the sand here. The Boston mouthpiece over the last 30 yrs has been Gammons. When he says something, it typically is coming from the President or Owner or GM. You better believe this was floated out there to sour Lester's reputation so it would make it easier for him to be dealt. It has happened TO EVERY PLAYER EVER TRADED by the Red Sox. Every player that mattered at least. If you don't think the sox do this then you should probably be wearing a helmet on a daily basis and screaming about your baseball
  3. And that is a wrap. The Yankees ended up signing Hensley for $1.2 mil, or $400K under slot. His MRI didnt show any damage, but apparently he has a congenital abnormality that made them drop the cash offer. He has been hitting 98mph this summer, so I am not sure how much this is actually going to affect him. The Yankees also signed Jose Mesa Jr, yes, crazy Mesa's kid. He throws mid 90s with a lights out breaking ball who profiles as a high ceiling starter or reliever. They also nabbed Dalton Smith out of HS in CA who is a solid defensive catcher with power potential. Overall, impressive haul for the Yankees considering what they did in the INTL ranks. They were also able to stay under the cap
  4. Of course he did. Whether its true or not, this will be the start of the slide out of boston
  5. Gammons wrote that Lester doesn't like Boston and wants out
  6. Coming off the report from sox FO mouthpiece, Peter Gammons, is there any question the FO is greasing the wheels for a Lester deal? He's said he loves Boston, but he won't be here long, IMO. Once this starts, the process rolls on.
  7. right when the pitching went into the shitter
  8. Someone would make a move for him, but you arent getting a blue chipper. You might end up getting a guy who makes a huge impact, but it wont be someone in the top 50 in baseball
  9. How about this. Manager out of line or not, that gets handled internally. Public insubordination is a problem
  10. Two month rentals are typically worth one top 10 prospect. The M's got Smoak, the Guardians got LaPorta, and the beat rolls on. There are two types of teams that go for Hamels. A team like the Pirates who know he isnt going to sign there, but want to go for everything this yr and a team like the Red Sox/Yankees who will require him to sign a long term extension.
  11. Hamels would be a tough play for you guys. He will cost a TON in prospects, he seems pretty dead set on hitting free agency, and you cannot get draft picks for him in return if he bolts due to the new CBA rules.
  12. I doubt Kalish ever has a yr like Reddick is having now. The guy is on pace for 40 big flys.
  13. The sox should be "sellers" as the term suggest come the offseason then they should quickly turn around and be buyers. If anyone thinks this team is winning a world series, then you are kidding yourselves, and it is only slightly less painful to lose out in the playoffs than it is to not make the playoffs and that depends on the fashion in which you get knocked out. I would rather not have made the playoffs in 2004 than go through that. Now could the sox win the world series? Statistically yes, and so can the Pirates, but let's not kid ourselves here. I think the sox should deal away their two sluggers who are on 1 yr deals (Ross and Ortiz). They should try and find a home for Beckett, even if it means they give him away in terms of a salary dump. Then in the offseason, they can decide if they want to bridge 2013 with rookies or use them to acquire veteran talent
  14. Hey, the scorer was at Fenway, so that's on you guys, lol. Jeter was dealing with dehydration and shoulder spasms, which was revealed after the game. He refused to leave the game, which I find admirable, although probably a bit dumb. If he's still symptomatic, he should bow out of tonights contest, but I am sure he wont
  15. The doc who did the surgery on Rivera said that he could return in 2012. It isnt likely, but the fact that it's his right leg actually makes it more of a possibility since it isnt doing the landing
  16. How does Bard get anything but an F?
  17. Joba Chamberlain started his rehab clock, with a hitless inning. He topped out at 97mph
  18. I am sorry on the timetable, for a position player it is actually 6-8 months. The sox have until August, really to make the decision. If they are out of it come Aug 1, then you gotta send him to Yocum or Andrews
  19. Padilla looks like he needs to ditch the glove and purchase an axe, preferably a bloody on. He's one scary mo-fo
  20. It would be stupid for the Yankees to brawl with the sox. Why injure your playoff team against a team that has no chance this yr? It is a dumb idea
  21. Pumps, Cherington is responsible for 2 trades, the Ross signing, the Scutaro deal, the Papi negotations, the retooled pen and the Bard experiment. Otherwise, petitioning the owners for more money isnt going to work since they have made it clear they need to get under the $189 million tax threshold for next season. He could offer to fellatiate John Henry at his beck and call and it still wouldnt work. You cannot kill him for not raising the payroll You can kill Cherington on the trades for now. Reddick is turning into an all star level OFer for a team badly in need of offense. The sox got back a no power RFer and a closer who hasnt suited up once for the sox Lowrie has been one of the most productive shortstops in baseball in Houston while Mark Melancon has been an enigma/juggs machine in Boston. The Ross signing was pure genius and might make all of the above go away if he can be dealt for something of long term value The Papi negotiations were far from great, but he got him on a one yr deal, which also could end up being a humongous boon for the org if they deal him for someone with long term value The Scutaro deal at the time was a money saving move that allowed you to get Ross. Mortensen looks like he could be a valuable piece for this team going forward, so the deal doesnt actually look that bad in retrospect even with the issues the sox have had in the IF The rebuilt pen is all on Cherington. His hands were all over the Miller transformation, the Padilla signing, the Cook signing, the Aceves move to the closers role, etc. Cherington did in one yr what Theo never did and that is build a good bullpen. It might be smoke and mirrors, but the results to this point are great. You can definitely kill Cherington for the Bard experiment. I think Bobby made it pretty clear that he wanted Bard in the pen but was overruled. Now the kid cannot get minor leaguers out and has lost his stuff. If Bard never regains his form, then that singular decision could be the deathknell for him in Boston. Taking your relief ace, a guy who was shut down dominant for 2 seasons and turning him into a shell shocked soldier hiding from combat is all on him.
  22. First Half Recap 52-33 (.612) 7 games up on Baltimore for the AL East lead, the biggest lead in baseball and the best record in baseball. Offensive: 6th in baseball in Runs scored, #1 in OPS Pitching: 9th in baseball in ERA, #4 in K's, #11 in starters ERA, #10 in relief Biggest disappointments: Tied between Michael Pineda and Mariano Rivera. Two guys expected to be humongous contributors to this team, lost for the season at a very early stage Biggest surprises: Phil Hughes and Hiroki Kuroda. Seeing both of those guys turn into legitimate starters on this team lessened the blow of losing CC and Pettitte during this stretch. At the same time, they stabilized one of the better rotations in the AL and locked down the rotation from May 1 onward. Outlook: With CC returning after the ASB and Gardner returning soon after, we should see a boost in the pitching and defense department. Hughes will have to avoid a second half swoon like he has in 2010, but his stuff has looked solid and he's actually been getting better over his last month on the mound minus his hiccup 2 nights ago (and the 5 f***ing errors!). We also get Joba back in a couple weeks to help offset the total implosion of Cory Wade. Effectively, this team looks like men amongst boys in what is turning out to be a decidedly mediocre AL East. Nobody sucks, but aside from the Yankees, nobody is very good. Prediction: They will win the AL East barring a Red Sox 2011 type collapse
