    JD was one of the worst players in all of baseball last year and he rebounded to being very good. Maybe not near his peak, but that’s a big turnaround. Renfroe had a career year Devers continued to rake Bogaerts continued to rake Vaz wasn’t far off career averages Kike had a career year Schwarber is having a career year Arroyo sucks and has always sucked, so trailing off second half isn’t surprising You don’t know what Verdugo is long term, this could be his peak or he could get better Overall your lineup either performed near career norms or well above and stayed pretty healthy.

    So Thames and Pillitere are gone. That shocks no one. Blake stays, that also shocks no one. Now go get me a manager who doesn’t suck at picking his relievers and who holds his players accountable.

    Your offense is damn good. I am also wondering if the Sox have some Jedi master healing their players with the force. Schwarber, known to be a chronic IL inhabitor, comes over injured, gets injured recovering from the first injury then returns faster than anticipated from the first injury and avoids the IL thereafter.

    Your pitching sucks and you had no down or injury plagued years in your lineup. That’s rare.

    Don’t tell the Sox they don’t have the arms, they’ll just beat you into submission. This is lining up a la 2013 again. They’re not a great team on paper, but they’re bludgeoning teams with their bats. They’ve got one reliable starting pitcher. They run into a deep Astros team who lose their ace the game before this series and lose their #3 today (Garcia hurt his knee). Fate couldn’t be drifting further in their favor. Heck, Cora decided to tempt it with his “hold my beer” moment in starting Sale game 1, yet they still come out of Houston with hone field. Not even sure what to believe anymore. Pitching wins titles? That’s utter ******** now. Slug your way to titles, pitching be damned!

    Sale is not reliable at this point. I was able to watch him pitch due to a slow period at work and, while his velo was there, his command of the velo was awful. Sale seems to have the same issue he had pre TJS. When he humps it up 95+, he loses command in its entirety. When he doesnt locate the heater to the corners he gets hammered. If he has to come in with the slider, he gets hammered. I also didnt see anything resembling a good change. He needs to seriously rework his arsenal in the offseason and start focusing on command and not power

    Biggest thing for the sox right now is opponent. The Astros are a beast with pitching and hitting. They are your more traditional team that doesnt rely on matchup and manager. But they are also helmed by Dusty Baker, who is a perennial choke artist in the playoffs. You won't have the luxury of facing a pen game every game. Valdez, McCullers, Garcia and Urquidy are a pretty talented top 4 and that lineup destroys pitching and knows how to play in October.

    That's what I expect as well. Bloom will improve the team and likely add more depth. I am just saying that this team, as is, would not be able to replicate their current success.

    Without major additions you won’t be better next year. More likely you’ll be worse since it’s pretty rare to avoid major injury for the entire season and it’s also rare that you only see career years or on par years from nearly the whole team. There’s always some major performer that has a rough or injury plagued year, that’s how baseball goes. The Sox have been able to rely on their core for most of the season (Kike is the only one who had a protracted absence) while cobbling enough pitching together to win games. Cora is the master assembler here putting the right pieces in the game at the right time and Bloom pushed all the right buttons acquiring guys, but just as 2013 led to a crash, going into 22 with the same roster will do the same. Very rare to overachieve two years in a row

    I keep saying this team gives me 2013 vibes. Sum is way better than their parts. No quit. Playing well above talent level but now only 8 wins from the title

    I do not think Schwarber signs somewhere to be a 1b. He will sign in the place that allows him the most opportunity to succeed and while he was agreeable to playing 1b in a pennant chase, it will be different when he holds all the cards. My bet is he signs somewhere for a Stanton type agreement. 2/3 DH, 1/3 OF. If JD walks, I wouldnt be surprised at all to see Schwarber stay in Boston. He has acclimated himself incredibly well

    The big thing here is the Rays are gonna go to an all hands on deck approach. The sox can withhold some bullets for Game 5 if need be and my bet is the game situation will dictate. If it is close, sox will try to close this out at home. If the game gets away from them a bit, you'll see a mop up guy and the sox will try their best to save bullets for Wednesday

    It’s not the “riddled with injuries” I’m worried about. It is the type of injury he has. He had a meniscectomy followed by a “bone bruise” from normal wear and tear then he hurt himself again running down the baseline. When you take a piece of the meniscus off, you accelerate arthritis. My concern is the next procedure we hear about is micro fracture surgery and the success of that is terrible

    Voit, Frazier, and Hicks were major parts of the off season plan for the 21 Yanks and all three were on the shelf by May 1. I think you’re not remembering how dominant Voit was last year and how high his expectations were.
