  1. The tigers didn't play in the WS because of the sox. Why would they make them better?
  2. I want to see the terms. This is obviously a stopgap measure, but if they have him more than 1 yr, I'm gonna laugh. Pitchers hate him. Other teams hate him. He's a lefty batter in a righty ball park. He doesn't walk at all. His only good offensive attribute is power and that'll be drained in Fenway. I'm surprised at this move. They must really hate Salty
  3. No terms yet
  4. The Yankees going public with this was a smart move. It means Cano cannot play the Yankees against themselves and knowing where NY stands will mean any dark horse cannot have the Yankees played against them. Cano's reps aren't being very realistic and he probably would have been better off with Boras. When it comes to Boras, he'll laud over a player, but he never gives the first offer. Sounds like Cano's people floated two offers before the Yankees floated theirs. Unless someone really is out there on the fringe, my bet is NY won't have to raise their offer. If I was Cashman now, I'd actually give an expiration date of the end of the winter meetings to get something done. There is no team in baseball who is going to spend $250 mil over 9 yrs on a guy who's considered lackadaisical and who's kinda been a bit lackluster in the clutch. If you're gonna drop this kind of coin, your going to want a guy with Miguel Cabrera's production
  5. SO a guy who tested positive for a PED in 2003 who subsequently saw his career rebound at age 35 after 2 down years doesn't at least draw a strong question of using? Really? Remove rosey glasses please.
  6. ARod tested positive in 2003 as well. He hasn't tested positive since. Those who chose to cheat aren't likely to just slink away and never try again. Nobody seems to think that Ortiz, coming off a rough 2010-2011 might have gotten a little extra help medically? And coming off his Achilles issue, you don't think he may have gotten some assistance of a medicinal variety? I do
  7. There's a reason why Ortiz has played well into his older years. He was a PED user and only plays half the games since he doesn't play D
  8. I'd be indifferent. I have said before, he's gonna give elite production for the next 3 yrs, good production for the following two, and be obsolete after that. If the sox are willing to have him as an albatross for his final 3 seasons at $25 mil per, then go for it
  9. There is no f***ing way Cano gets that. 7yrs 168 mil is an awesome deal. $24 mil per year for 7 yrs. I highly, highly doubt any team can match that
  10. Hughes needed out. I am willing to bet Hughes has an ERA under 4 next yr in the bigger park
  11. They don't need Ellsbury. Ells is a top of the order kind of guy. They have one, granted Ells is an upgrade. They need power hitters. Last yrs power outage was f***ing epic. You bring in Beltran and move him to LF in YS, which is one of the toughest LF's to play in baseball due to its vast expanse of territory. Soriano has the arm for RF, but not the innate skills. In NY, it doesn't matter. Anything over his head is off the wall or gone. I'd assume we go with an OF of Beltran, Gardner, and Soriano. Keep Ichiro as the 4th OFer. Release Vernon Wells. We need another 2 infielders. One for 2b (be it Cano or someone else) and a 3b/ss.
  12. Beltran expected to sign with NY. Yankees offering 2 yrs, Carlos wants 3. Regardless, this is expected to get done. Throw him in LF and get r done. That allows Grandy to move on and gives our kids some breathing room and time to mature in the minors. We have 4 solid OF prospects in the upper levels, but all 4 struggled in 2013 in hopes that one of them would make an impact in 2013.
  13. And getting Beltran and letting Granderson go allows us to get a pick in the sup round and lose the second rounder
  14. Balfour probably gets 3 yrs $21 mil
  15. Anyone on here who is poopooing this move because there are other holes to fill get the captain obvious tag. If this is all we do, then we're missing the playoffs. We got ourselves one of the best catchers in the game. He's completely healthy now. He's a lefty power hitter coming to a park that a little league lefty can pull one out of. He's a solid defender who calls a good game and won't put up with showboating or hi jinks on the bases. I will personally guarantee that he will start a benches clearing situation with Boston in 2014. He fills a gigantic hole. And he's finally healthy after shoulder surgery. I expect 25-30HR, which going along with his patience and a normal luck season (low BABIP last 2 yrs vs baseline) should see him OPS well into the .800s
  16. zac, as we deserve, we aren't gonna get our due after they win a world series. It wont be rectified until we are on top. This is a positive step, but it isn't the last one. There is a lot of work to do
  17. Also, tex has 3 yrs left. By the time he's moved on, McCann might be ready for 1b. He's still a great defender
  18. Lol, if you need to rely on a single season to bash a move, them it's probably not accurate. They guy had a .799 OPS last yr. Prior to 2012, he was an annual .800+OPS guy. His 2012 was injury riddled. He started 2013 late and ran out of gas likely due to not having an offseason healthy. We'll see what happens now, but putting him behind the dish and in our stadium is gonna be sweet.
  19. Good work stopping your "analysis" with his injury riddled year of 2012.
  20. And the next bit of good news is that we aren't signing Peralta
  21. I f***ing hope they get Tanaka. Go balls to the wall Cash! LOL, this was all part of the plan. We needed stability at the catcher position. We had it with Posada and then Martin. This past yr, we had nothing. There is no coincidence that the only two seasons we haven't made the playoffs this century, we had no stability at catcher (2008 Posada was hurt).
  22. I predicted 5 and 90. This isn't really a surprise. This is what was predicted for him a long time ago. Here is the deal. He just turned 30, so he isn't old. It's a 5 yr deal, which will complete his year 34 season. If he lives up to expectations, he'll get another year. If he doesn't, then its a 5 year deal. He's left handed. He is a good defender. He has a lot of power. Put him in YS and he'll hit 30 bombs. But put him behind the dish for us and we'll see some improvements on the mound and wont have to live with a sub .600OPS in the lineup. This is big.
  23. I predicted 5 yrs $90 mil. Looks like I was pretty close to spot on.
  24. 5 yrs $85 mil with a vesting option for a 6th year that could make it 6 yrs $100 mil. 5 yrs was the most I was willing to go. Adding the vesting option works as he would need to meet criteria to make that 6th year worthwhile. The guy literally just turned 30, so this is a good deal for a guy who is good defensively and is a big lefty bat. He's gonna abuse that short porch
  25. Yeah, just saw that after I posted. Regardless, the Yankees have put on the full court press. I expect this to be completed
