  1. I was only saying that as the acquisition cost to get Machado if he doesn’t get dealt plus his contract. The punishment now for signing QO FAs is insanely harsh. Yes, you’re no longer losing your first rounder, but you’re losing 2 of the top 5 draft picks in your draft and losing $1 mil of INTL funds that equates to losing a top draft choice internationally or many different plYers that you could sign for less than that
  2. I’m talking about signing Machado next year
  3. They had a closer who locked thing down. They moved onto someone better. They paid the price for elite closing. Davis will allow them to outperform their pythag. I still think advanced metrics don’t account for a 9th inning guy. Not everyone can do it. Those that do it at an elite level are typically on teams that outperform their pythag
  4. Moreland was 26th in barrels per PA. He was surprisingly just above Sanchez who was 30th. Judge was 1, Stanton 3.
  5. Tanaka was coming off a career down season and has the specter of the elbow. Don’t let him fool you. He wasn’t guaranteed a bigger payday, so he stuck around and spun it well. Price is guaranteed $9 mil more per year than Tanaka and has a more recent history of elbow trouble. He’s not opting out unless he wins a CY this year. What he can do is opt in then be a cancer until he’s traded. That sounds more like what he’d do
  6. The sox will lose two draft picks and INTL money. They’ll keep their 1st, but lose their 2nd and 5th. As a large market club over the lux cap, they’ll also lose $1 mil in INTL funds
  7. I’d offer Bogaerts and Chavis for Machado. You only lose one season as Bogey is a FA after 2019. Chavis would be their prospect chip then they can flip Bogey afterwards for more prospect capital. Machado moves back to SS and gets a 1 year cameo in Boston to see if he likes it. I have also recommended a front loaded contract with Harper or Machado. I’d offer both a 10 year $300 mil contract with $120 mil over the first three seasons with an opt out afterwards. That allows them to get $40 mil annually while only counting against the lux tax at $30 mil. It also gives the players an insurance policy of 7 years and $180 mil after the opt out should they get hurt
  8. Bogey is a minus defensive SS. Color me shocked. He’s been an offense first guy who can play a defense first position. Why do your think his WAR is so high? Don’t mince words and try to put lipstick on a pig.
  9. Cobb is a disaster waiting to happen. Please sign him or Lynn, please
  10. I like Benintendi a lot. I like Archer a lot. The control in terms of years is similar, although Beni is 23 and Archer 29 with lots of IP in his arm. Archer can be an ace when he isn’t giving up more than a homer per 9IP. We don’t know what Beni can be. I think Beni has perennial all star potential. His BABIP was .301, so you shouldn’t expect a rise in BA there, but his K rate was 7% higher than it was in the minors. If that corrects and he continues a BABIP of .300, that jumps his average up to .292. I also think he’s the kind of hitter that could run his BABIPs into the .320s and be fine as he has good speed and has a knack for barreling the ball. Also, as he ages, his power should come a bit more. While that may mean more HRs, it also should mean more doubles. I see Beni’s ceiling as a .300/.370/.500 type hitter with 25 steals and 25+HR. I also think his defensive metrics will play better in LF as he will have a full year under his belt with the wall. I’d be reticent to deal him. I’d almost be more willing to deal Devers as I think his stock is limited by the likelihood that he ends up at 1b
  11. Archer has a similar problem to Gerrit Cole. Over the last 2 seasons, Archer's HR rate jumped and he has thrown to a 4+ ERA for 2 consecutive years. If he moved to Boston, he would need to find a way to return to the days where his HR rates were sub 1/9IP.
  12. Porcello had a one year run of being out of his mind. He’s an innings eating back end of a rotation pitcher. Anticipating anything otherwise will leave you disappointed
  13. Estrada is a safe guy. He’s not the type of star player Gleyber can be. He isn’t as disruptive on the basepaths like Wade can be. He doesn’t have the overall package that Andujar has either. Estrada is a pesky small-ish guy who makes hard contact and is incredibly hard to strike out. He also plays really solid defense. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if he ended up being a big league starter for 10 seasons, but he won’t be flashy at all
  14. What I am saying is, you wont survive another season of Price being out
  15. You won’t be able to survive that and win the ALE this time around. The sox did win the ALE, but this time we have a full season of Gray, Robertson, Kahnle, and Stanton plus our young guys got significant experience last year.
  16. Cole is a game changing pitcher, when healthy. If we can get him without touching our very top prospects, then why not? Otherwise, we are set without him
  17. Your best chance for stability is for the top of your rotation to be healthy and performing. Your team won last year at a ridiculous clip IMO due to your closer. You got a lead late and you didn’t give it up. Kimbrel was insane and I don’t think you can expect another historic season out of him. A little more consistency would do your team well
  18. I agree. I’m more talking about your trio of towers at the top. If Sale gets hurt or Pom regresses or gets hurt or Price doesn’t rebound then you’re dead no matter who you add
  19. It's not about adding pitching. The sox have 6 legitimate starting options once they are all healthy. The Yankees have 5 healthy big league guys right now with 4 top prospects in AAA and a swing guy down there. We have the depth. The sox have the depth. It comes down to health.
  20. Larry, I think the only additions the sox make on the pitching end will be veterans who could rebound. I have said Anibal Sanchez would be a good candidate to sign. Even a Jaime Garcia type. A guy who wont cost a lot who could win the 5th starter spot out of ST and see if they can hold onto it as guys come back from injury or suspension. It makes no sense for DD to deal for a pitcher or spend a lot on one. You've got Sale and Pom at the top. Porcello at least gives you innings. Price takes a slot and ERod will return as will Wright. You need depth at this point, not someone to lock down a spot
  21. Yankees used the Ohtani money nabbing Outfielder Raimfer Salinas and catcher Antonio Cabello. They’re the #11 and #15 prospects from the 2017 class giving NYY 5 of the top 20.
  22. You’re forgetting German who will be starting in AAA. Listen, I don’t turn my attention to anybody right now. If something falls into our lap, then great. We’re under the cap by a fair amount and we have every position covered and then some. I also think Wade wins the 2b job out of ST mostly because the Yankees will want Torres to get more seasoning but also to delay his clock. It also leaves Torres in play for both 2b and 3b should one of the kids fail. Lost in the system depth is just how good Wade is. High OBP, High average, his SB potential with slick defense. He reminds me of Brian Roberts. I honestly think Cashman is going to be reactive from here on out. No point in being proactive and setting a market. No point in being the highest bidder. Also, with how the mid market guys have fared, we might be able to snatch a bargain from the bin who turns out to help us a ton. I’m still keeping an on Todd Frazier for right now. Moustakas sounded like a pipe dream, but his market is slow to develop as he never proved he was the guy he was in 2017 for any period of time more than a year. He might end up a pillow contract type and that would be amazing for us. Both those guys could end up elsewhere and we have the minor league talent to start seeing what we have. How many teams have a legitimate ace, 2 legitimate former aces still in their prime, and a 4,5 like Sabathia and Montgomery? Not many teams. Now do those teams have a loaded AAA rotation behind them with 3 top 100 talents? Heck no. We have a stupid embarrassment of riches right now and we have no impetus to trade from it. Let it come to us
  23. Things are still in a holding pattern. It is funny, the guys more attributed to Yankee news are saying things are cold and the national guys are reporting that a deal is imminent.
  24. I like Andujar. I don’t want him dealt. I’d be okay with dealing any of the pitchers not named Justus Sheffield. I would like to keep all of them, but there’s no room for all and I get that deals need to be made. I’d stand by a Frazier, pitcher, and lower level prospect. That’s better than anyone else will send. If they don’t like it, we can use that same package to nab an elite arm at the deadline
  25. Cash isn’t being sold a bill of goods. Cole is a dynamic pitcher who can lead a rotation when healthy. Thing is, the Pirates are going on a rebuild and Cole is under control for 2 seasons. No point in keeping him
