  1. the fan taunting Jackie is getting annoying
  2. You know how Betances is going to be based on his first batter. If he is locating, he is gonna be deadly. If he is pulling pitches off the plate, he is f***ed.
  3. This defense is awful
  4. Didi is the MVP thus far this season.
  5. Our long guys are on the DL and we don’t want to burn service time or development with any of the kids.
  6. Happ, Sanchez, Stroman, Estrada and Garcia is actually really good.
  7. He doesn't swing and miss much and typically he makes hard contact. He's not normal. You've got sluggers who hit mistakes and you have the high average hitters who use the whole field. There are very few guys who can hit good pitches or even balls out of the strike zone and drive them. Andujar can do that. A free swinger usually strikes out a ton. Andujar doesn't. He's a unicorn in that respect. He really is. Most high average hitters have incredible command of the strike zone. They usually have high BAs, but also high walk totals and low K's (think Altuve). Most power hitters have good command of the strike zone but swing and miss a lot. He is neither. This makes him very exciting to watch
  8. Erik Swanson has been killing it in AA. He was acquired with Dillon Tate for Carlos Beltran. He's a 24yr old, tall, strong RHP capable of topping out at 98mph, but was hit pretty hard in A+ in 2017 and that caused him to drop off the Yankee prospect map altogether. This year, he is starting in Trenton and is just mowing guys down. His line through 4 starts is impressive. 20.2IP 11H 2ER 7BB 30K. I anticipate he wont be in AA for long
  9. The kid has the talent, but you could definitely see he was nervous.
  10. Well, we leap frogged the sox and now lead baseball in runs and OPS. Cannot be too reliant on the offense, but it is nice to have. Huge start tomorrow from Gray. The guy has been an ace and an all star and is entering his prime. There is no reason for him to suck this bad. He will right the ship
  11. Andujar is the rare free swinger who makes solid contact. He also has ridiculous plate coverage. Reminds me of a Vlad type approach. Nose to toes and add 6 inches on each side of the plate and that’s what this kid can hit
  12. We’ve broken out the last 9 games. And Odorizzi sucks in Yankee stadium. Plus, the offense is waking up and Tanaka settles down. If Andujar and Torres are the real deal this year, this offense will be absolutely incredible
  13. It needs to be compared to a baseline of an “average CFer”. That mark shifts year by year as teams are going more defense oriented in CF than in years past
  14. Former top 100 prospect. Command guy with low 90s heat as a starter. Likely to be a swing guy here. Slider curve combo as well with a change. Flames out with Washington. We’ll see if a change of roles and scenery will benefit. Hale DFAd in the process
  15. The problem is, going by lack of objective data leads to bad team building. Maybe he doesn’t make errors, but maybe he’s slow on beaks back, to his left or right. Maybe his range is small. Or, to JDs credit he admitted this, he gets afraid when he nears the wall after breaking his arm a few years ago. These things may not be apparent with the eye test, but a double hit and a double prevented are just as valuable.
  16. JD isn’t a DH in mindset, yet. Throwing him in the OF every now and then definitely helps his psyche and allows other players some rest. Cora definitely subscribed to the theory of ensuring all players, not just the fragile or old, need scheduled rest. And if JD is going to give his best defensive efforts out there, it won’t be once every 10 games, he’ll have to see the field more often. Either way, your squad’s OF defense is impressive. The question becomes, next year, when Pom walks and you tie up Kimbrel with a big contract, does JBJ get moved for an arm to slot into your rotation.
  17. Austin has very quietly been very good in Bird’s stead. .988 OPS after last night. Those who followed him as a prospect know what he did in the minors. He hit for average and power with a good eye after recovering from a wrist injury that cost him two seasons. His career OPS is up to .814 as well. He’s been listed as a lefty killer, but he very well may end up giving Bird a run for his money. Also, should Bird come back and hit for the power we all expect him to, Austin could also spell the end of Ellsbury. Austin can play the COF’s as well. With Hicks and Gardner capable of playing Cf well and Judge able to pitch in there, Ellsbury’s utility as a backup CFer is effectively gone. Austin won’t Wally Pipp Bird, but he’s definitely bought himself more PT and the Yankees the ability to build Bird up slowly rather than rush him. Speaking of being Wally Pipp’d, I doubt Drury returns to a solid position. Drury can shift to 2b if Torres falters, but he isn’t taking anything from Andujar. Miggy can hit. Also, I find it funny that Wally Pipp sat out due to headaches and Drury is on the shelf with migraines
  18. JbJ isn’t being dealt this year anyway. This is a definite possibility this offseason, though
  19. Andujar with 7 straight games with an EBH after homering and doubling. Kids nuclear
  20. It did not make sense to let a gassed Price face the A’s 2 best RH hitters with the go ahead runs on base. It was a mistake
  21. Season started March 27 and ends early October. They intentionally put an extra 5 or 6 days off into the schedule. I think MLB shared some of the NBA’s frustration at days of rest on prime time games, so they accommodated.
  22. 5-2 in last 7. Sevy and JMont finish the series strong. Offense shows up this series with 23 runs in 4 games. Andujar is hitting the cover off the ball. Torres is up (definite deer in headlights look today, though). Staying home for the Twins, looking to stay hot
