  1. The problem you run into when you say the Sox need to win in the ALDS, is that it cheapens the regular season you’re having. Not every team makes the post season. Being on par for a third straight appearance ain’t a bad thing
  2. The best way to think of Pedroia is that he won’t be coming back. Then, if he comes back, it’s gravy for you
  3. If Britton comes back to his former self, he’ll fetch a top prospect in return. He’s every bit as good as Chap and Miller were when we dealt them
  4. The Sox were coming off a last place season. I anticipate he figured adding Price and Kimbrel would get them team back to respectability. I doubt he expected an ALE title. If DD drew up a blueprint when he arrived, he’d say 2016 is a build up year 2017-2019 is the window and 2020 and on is the attempt to keep the band together and hope for the best. This year is clearly the pinnacle of the window. I think next year is as well assuming they re-sign Kimbrel and don’t miss Pom (which they don’t at the moment). But next year, you’ll see the first bit of attrition when Kelly walks away to a big contract that the Sox couldn’t afford by keeping Kimbrel. That attrition really starts to hit come 2020
  5. They’re not going away per se, but the way they’ve been GM’d has painted them into a financial corner. When building a winning roster, you reach a point to where you require new blood to take over for expensive vets. With DD gutting your system, the turnover isn’t going to be smooth and this will cause your squads to suffer long term. That being said, all of DD’s moves were aimed at this year and next. You’ve won 68% of your games at the third pole of the season. I’d say most fans would have signed up for this after the finish of 2015
  6. You’ve also got a clear window. You’re in it now. If you can make a move that can win you a title right now, you do it. With the new rules in place, you can trade players you just drafted. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Sox dangle Casas et al for something of consequence. You need a bat to lengthen the lineup. Even if it means moving JBJ to a 4th OFer role or moving Devers down to AAA, it’s worth it for this year
  7. “Experts” on the radio, lol. The Sox cannot take from their big league squad. Losing ERod, who’s in the #2-4 conversation in your rotation and is cost controlled would be stupid. I get Devers going to BAL. I think that’s the kind of return the O’s are looking at. If you had another year of Manny, then it makes sense. But Devers for a rental isn’t a good idea for a team that needs cost controlled guys
  8. Btw, when KRob moves on at season’s end, I see Carroll ascending into the pen and Holder moving up in the pecking order of setup men. Carroll has been dominating. His stuff is filthy. High velocity plus knee buckling breaking ball. Command needs some more work, but he doesnt get hit at all and has 39K’s in only 28IP in AAA.
  9. Me too. There are plenty of guys we have who could make a big league team who have no shot in this system. I’d like to see Lail go as well.
  10. The D for the M's has been awful
  11. To be fair, the sox beat Morton, but they didn't beat Verlander. They beat his relievers
  12. And decided to put on enough makeup to last a week. Wow
  13. Watching Jerry nearly puke was priceless
  14. It's also a testament to our pen. We get leads and we don't give them up
  15. In baseball, the better team should win the series vs bad teams and should split the season series vs other good teams. Even the worst teams win a third of their games
  16. Ronny Rojas is a machine. He will be 16 for 2 more months, hence he is not eligible for coming stateside this year. But in 8 games in the DSL, he has a near 1.400 OPS. 3 doubles, 2 triples, 2 homers, 9 walk, 2 steals, .370/.541/.852. Needs to make more contact (14K's in 8 games) but he has a special ability to drive a baseball. He is a name to watch. I expect him to tear up the states next yr
  17. Matt Sauer threw his first game of the year in short season today. 6 hitless innings with 1 walk. He is gonna be a hell of a pitcher to watch
  18. It broke a curse. The cubs would have dealt 100 Gleyber's for the title they won
  19. Yankees trade 10th rounder from 2017, Chad Whitmer, to the Brewers for INTL signing money
  20. If the Yankees win tonight, the Rays will be 7-26 vs teams .500 and higher
  21. He is also a dominant lefty. You want to rest a lefty who is being started every game? Then you sit him against one of the best lefties in baseball
  22. You clearly don't follow the deadline. There is always one GM that is willing to send the farm for a guy to give them one shot at winning it all. Happens every single year
  23. Filia returned to the Mariners. He failed his physical. They got cash for Elias
  24. You’ve got $137 mil on the books for next year. You forgot Pablo. Add in a re-sign of Kimbrel and you’re up to $157 mil. Betts got $10 mil in arb year 1. He’s staring at $17 mil next year. Bogey will be $15 mil or so. Bradley will see a raise on his arb number which is currently $6 mil. That’s up to $195 mil. Benefits like health and pension s*** always eat up $15 mil or so. Your at $210 mil. Add in the rest of the arb cases plus minimums and you’re at the max. You lose Pom and Kimbrel at years end. You’ve got enough space to sign one $20 mil AAV FA for 2019 and I expect that to be Kimbrel
