Jack, I do think the sox can nab Beltre. Beltre's market will be limited due to his age and his 10 and 5 rights. I know people seem to think Devers is on the verge of a breakout, but even in his "hottest" month, he's only reaching base 29% of the time and has only 3 bombs. He needs a breather to work on approach as he has forgotten entirely how to work a count. Even if Devers gets 2-3 weeks in the minors, it would bring him back reinvigorated offensively. Beltre would also give you a lineup extension. Beltre wont be able to play 3b every day for a prolonger period of time, but he could split time with Devers once Devers gets his act together. That time split will also be a time split at 1b and DH while pushing JDM into the OF a bit more to extend the lineup. It will add contingencies to your offense that you don't currently have.

When you bring a kid up from the minors, usually you want to ease him into things. Blowout or lower leverage situation earlier in a game. You don't bring in a promoted reliever in a 2-2 game on the road in the 8th inning, especially when the team you're chasing has already won

Gennett also happens to be one of the best players in baseball, so you're not getting him for nothing. He also has one more year of team control. With Groome neutralized and Chavis useless in terms of return, you don't have enough to get Gennett without giving up a Devers

German dominated the M’s. The offense came out en force. Heck, even Sanchez made good contact (hardest hit ball this season was a line out). This German kid has sick stuff and when he locates, he will dominate. Here’s to hoping for more out of this kid going forward

That is what playoff baseball has become. It used to be that an ace would hand the ball to the closer in the playoffs. Now, an ace can hand the ball to a cadre of hard throwing relievers after 5 innings and he did well. The Royals really showed that the formula can work. The Yankees showed it last year as well. Heck, we won a play in game where our ace got 2 outs!

Not really. Sanchez is an all star level offensive C. Stanton is a reigning MVP. Those two guys have been down as have Didi's and Hicks' BABIP. It shows that our offense has not even come close to hitting its stride. Whether that happens this year is the question. When it does, we will be bludgeoning teams. I wont be able to find any sox fan who would have told me that Holt, Nunez and your C spot would carry your lineup. Devers having a sophomore slump is pretty common. JBJ having a prolonged slump is also pretty common. Your team didn't expect the 6-9 to be a black hole, but you didn't expect it to carry you either. The guys struggling on our squad are expected to carry us. That's the difference

Dealing Kimbrel will destroy your club. Your pen has two guys in it who you can trust in crunch time. Eliminating the best option without returning a similar player would be a problem for you. Also, Kimbrel is on an expiring contract. The return obtained for Herrera, who is similar in production this year, was not as expected which means you likely aren't going to get a Chapman or Miller type return

It's like I'm a damn Nostradamus. Betances is absolutely lights out. Boone has tried to get more than 3 outs from Betances on 4 occasions. In the second inning, his ERA is 21.00. Within the first 3 outs of an appearance, Betances' ERA is 1.24. He hasn't been attempted to go beyond one inning in his last 11 outings. His line in those 11 outings is as such... 11.0IP 1H 0ER 6BB 20K 0.00ERA 0.63WHIP 16.4K/9IP

Yet we have been surprisingly unlucky offensively. Sanchez is in a black hole. He's a hell of a hitter. Stanton hasn't been himself. Gardner lost his power. Didi's power and walks came in but his BABIP is way down. Hicks' BABIP is down to .264. Bird's BABIP is way down, especially for a guy with high K rates and HR rates. This offense isn't hitting and we have the best record in baseball. It will. And when it does, we will be crushing teams

It was both, kinda. The offensive production wont be missed. If Hanley had no option for next year, then he hangs on as a guy who mashes lefties and plays in 30% of the games. With the concern that the option would cause him to be a malcontent and the fact that he wasn't producing enough to justify his place on the club, it was an easy call.

Not true at all. Our rotation ERA is solid. Our ERA in June is best in the AL. Our offense cannot hit right now for some reason. We are 17th in the MLB in runs scored in June yet are 12-4. That should tell you something. Giving up your proposal is just ridiculous. We have the depth to absorb it, but Andujar and Torres have been our #2 and #3 best hitters in the lineup after Judge. No way we move those guys. We have depth on depth in the minors on the pitching side. A big trade could help move some of that out. I wont touch ANYTHING in the majors right now save German. If the Mets insist, then they can find a better partner. I also label Sheff and Frazier untouchable, unless Cashman has legitimate plans to add Harper in the offseason. If he does, then deal Frazier away. I think Frazier has a good shot at being our starting LFer next season. I'd be willing to move Drury, but I'd rather not as I think he is our long term 2b with Torres moving to SS when Didi hits FA. We have pitching on pitching on pitching down there, and I doubt anyone would be willing to give up more than us. I'd assume the Mets would want 4 players. I'd send them Florial and Acevedo as front liners with a choice of 2 other pitchers or position players down the line.

Harper's issues are as much luck as roster construction. His BABIP is .208. That's incredibly low. His walk rate is up compared to last year because Zimmerman is down right now and cannot protect him. This is leading him to chase more out of the zone and seeing his K rate rise. Harper is trying too hard, is what it comes down to. Maybe they could stack he and Soto (although no manager likes to stack lefties) and give Harper some protection. That should help with getting him some strikes to swing at

And then a win. I am glad we wont have to see Soto again until maybe the world series. That kid is better than Harper! Gray was serviceable. The pen was lights out again. Stanton really stepped up. If he gets hot, watch out Interestingly, we are 12-4 in June. But we are 17th in runs scored in the month and 1st (by a LOT) in ERA. Our starting pitching gets maligned but we are 5th in the AL in starters ERA and only 0.14 away from Boston, who are third in the AL. Our pen is now second in the AL behind the Astros in ERA, and first in all of baseball (by 13 in 3 less games) in strikeouts. I know everyone keeps talking about our rotation and how it needs upgrades, but I think we are fine where we are. We have the kids with talent who can help us get to the promised land and a bullpen that can take the ball in the second inning in playoff time and finish out games. And it isn't like our rotation is a bunch of bums. When Tanaka returns, we have 4 guys who have been aces. Sevy is in the Cy Young conversation again. Tanaka is an ace level starter at times. CC doesn't have his ace stuff anymore, but he has been nails all year. He's almost exactly replicated last year's renaissance while actually lowering his walk rate. And watch out for Sonny Gray. After two abysmal months, he's rebounded with a 2.63ERA, 1.00WHIP, 8.25K/9IP, 1.88BB/9IP June. Those are the types of numbers he put up in Oakland. If he is finally locked in and can provide us with solid production as the #4, then we don't really need any upgrade at all.

Victor Victor Mesa turns 22 in July. My guess is he will sign this year. Whomever signs him will likely use their entire budget. I’m thinking the Sox are going after him

Without Price and Kimbrel , you don’t win the ALE in 2016. Price wasn’t an ace, but those 200+ IP were clutch for your club. Kimbrel provides a lock down closer after some struggles on the back end when Moji’s body started to break down.
