  1. ERod is going to control his own destiny. If he continues to start 25 or less games, then the sox wont want to pay for him due to durability concerns. If he becomes durable, then he will be too expensive to retain. I think ERod ends up in Boston for this year and next and is probably dealt in his final arb season as part of a tear down
  2. Every team is linked to the other, but the success of their own team is paramount. If tanking allows them to have a few upper eschelon years, then it's worth it. Nothing is worse than the Mariners or Blue Jays who spent years chasing something that wasn't there and they stayed in mediocrity.
  3. ERod, even with his injuries, has shown the ability to avoid the major injury (no elbow or shoulder red flags) and has proven to be a very good starting pitcher in the league. Eovaldi has had major injuries and has never proven to be even a good starting pitcher for a full season. He's all stuff and hype without the production. He's a SSS warrior who parlayed one month into a $68 mil contract
  4. Two years in a row may be a bit much, but then why splurge on Pearce or Eovaldi? Pearce is a "nice to have". Guys like him are usually available at the deadline for cheap. RH platoon bat who plays COF and 1b, there will be 3 of them moved at the deadline this year at a minimum. Eovaldi is a good get if he stays healthy, but based on your squad, he's at best your #4 and more likely your #5. To spend $17 mil on him sounds like a little too much, IMO. You could have kept Kelly and signed Ottavino for that amount.
  5. Well the pulling of Barnes and Brasier into their new roles will lead to more leads blown in the 6th and 7th. I’d also venture to guess that days Barnes and or Brasier are rested will be adventurous
  6. I think this situation is different. Most Sox fans realize the band cannot stay together beyond this season, so optimizing 2019 is a big focus.
  7. Now bargain guys are going. I cannot imagine for the life of me that Dd thinks this pen is good enough. Yeah, the pen was great in the playoffs, but you also had Sale, ERod and Eovaldi throw innings out of the pen. That ain’t happening over 162. This brings me back to the days when Andy Pettitte was used on his throw day because our pen minus Mo was atrocious.
  8. Meh, my retort was more meant to be funny in a gruesome way. Talking about dead kids is over the line
  9. Exactly. The players want 50% of the revenue. The way the lux tax is set up, the Yanks and sox will never reach 50%
  10. No argument there
  11. Maybe Ted’s Head will be there
  12. He should and will get in
  13. And the only argument (weak one admittedly) I have for why Mo is the first one is that he is far and away, unequivocally, the best at his position of all time. Every other position has an argument. Ted vs Babe vs Bonds for RF, Mick vs Dimaggio vs Griffey in CF etc. There is no argument for closer. It also didn’t hurt that he’s a great guy, is always very humble and gracious and the media adores him.
  14. I love Mo. I’m happy for him. I’m happy for Moose. Mo will hopefully set a new standard for clear HOF level players.
  15. You’re gonna have plenty of crow to eat this october
  16. You cannot use 3 years. Judge barely played in 2016. Convenient sampling. Also, Judge missed time with a broken wrist last yr. Here is the rub. If Judge played 155 games like he did the year before, he'd have had a 7WAR season. He had an 8.2 season in 2017. He and Betts are both 7+ WAR per season players. It is gonna be fun debating their worths over the next few years
  17. This is why Mayo has us as a top 10 system. We have guys who are big league ready (Loaisiga), guys close to ready (Abreu, Acevedo, Adams, etc), and guys a long ways off with impressive stuff.
  18. You might be able to do even better if you use his name pronunciation. It's pronounced "Stores"
  19. He was drafted last year, held his own against other college draftees and showed some power, speed and a great eye. I agree that the lack of a 40 man need was very important here. Also, he’s already an outfielder, something that Long will probably need to transition to. We shall see if Cash’s investment pays off. That being said, the #36 pick may be the best return of this trade
  20. Stowers is a speed demon with a good hit tool, a great eye and projectable power who won’t need to be 40 man protected for a couple seasons. He stole 20 bases in 58 games in short season. Look for him to start in either Charleston or Tampa and move fast as a collegiate draftee. His bugaboo is defense. The write up I read on him was he makes up for bad jumps with his top notch speed, but at the highest levels he will need to get his jumps and angles polished. He also doesn’t have a strong arm and if relegated to a COF spot, he’d be relegated to LF. Funny thing is, this guy sounds like the RH version of Shed Long. I like the move. I think this kid rapidly ascends our system as we are weak in the position player department above the short season leagues and this kid is gonna debut probably in Tampa.
  21. We lost one real impact player in a system loaded with pitching
  22. This isn’t the exact quote, but in an August write up he has the Yanks at #10 in the game. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.mlb.com/288576958-top-10-farm-systems-in-mlb.amp.html
  23. In a write up towards the end of the year
  24. The thing about Harper and Machado is they are 2 years younger than Betts will be when he hits FA. Yes, Betts put up a better 2018 than any season either have had. Betts has also had a better average last 4 seasons than either have (Betts average 7.2WAR, Harper 5WAR, Machado 5.4WAR). Betts is the better player. But having 2 extra prime years brings the price up
  25. Yanks gave the Reds a 72 hour window for negotiations. It expires tonight. We shall see
