  1. It all depends on what the White Sox offer. Reason suggests a lower AAV over longer term. But a team with the untapped talent of the white Sox may value JD’s mentor status as much as his production.
  2. The stated inclination to get under the LT
  3. JD was more than just a force. He also taught a lot of your hitters how to be a professional baseball player. What he does to ensure his swing is perfect is obsessive and takes an inordinate amount of preparation and time. He was willing to teach that method to his compadres and it helped everyone around him. His loss would be catastrophic for your offense, especially knowing that Betts is gonna hit the open market and could get away as well. There are mashers and there are guys who hit for average. You don’t see a lot of guys who hit for a great average also homer 30+ times a year. He’s unique. Losing him will make your offense far, far less concerning IMO as a Yankee fan
  4. It says the option was for $12.5 mil with a buyout. That was last year
  5. White Sox just cleared $7.5 mil in Castillo today when they dealt him to Texas. They’re making a run at JD
  6. I also need to wonder about the Chapman opt out. I forgot that Chapman never had the chance to get a QO. He is an easy QO offer, which will considerably limit his market. He was as good as ever last year, but he is a power pitcher who will be 32 at the start of next season. How much more can he expect to get than 2 yrs $34 mil. He wont see the same AAV, maybe he gets a 3 or 4 yr deal, but he isn't a kid anymore and his arsenal doesn't lend towards aging well. If I were Cash and he opted out, I would take the opportunity to let the market settle out a bit then potentially get him at a discount. The QO really changed things for a lot of players and I bet it would limit the market for a 32 yr old closer
  7. So with the end of the season comes a little bit of clarity. EE has been declined and is a FA. His $5 mil comes from TB, so he won't count at all on our lux tax bill and is a FA. The case for Didi is interesting. Yes, we need left handed hitting. Yes, he provides excellent defense for a prime defensive position. But I really didn't like what I saw out of him last year. Yes, he started the year hurt, but he devolved offensively to the light hitting, free swinging player we initially obtained when Jeter retired. Not sure if he had some pressure in his contract year, but he did himself no favors. He is an easy QO decline there. But as a 30 yr old shortstop, I wonder what his market is. I would anticipate anyone signing him would expect his speed to diminish over the next couple seasons and he would probably need to move to 2b or even a CIF position. He doesn't hit well enough to cover a CIF position. Also, in 2018, Didi was an absolute masher in YS and pedestrian outside of the Bronx. Granted, 2017 was the opposite, so it isn't like you can say definitively that he is a product of the ball park. I do wonder if Didi comes to the Yanks and asks for a 1 yr $10 mil deal as a way to prove he is healthy, lessen the load a bit and earn himself a bigger payday after 2020. Even with our budget constraints, I would be inclined to take that.
  8. You’re looking at his last contract. He’s an unrestricted FA. No buyouts But we did buy out EE today. TB pays the $5 mil buyout
  9. You’d almost rather that, honestly. 2020 the Sox are planning to shed talent and get under the cap. If Sale returns with a PRP healed ligament, he will have lesser power on top of already diminished power and it doesn’t remove the possibility that it tears later. It seems like the PRP healed ligament is weaker than a TJS repaired ligament. Plus, the TJS regimen builds the core and shoulder up considerably which lends to more power than before.
  10. Who’s better than Greinke? Listen, I love the human element of umpiring, but I do agree. We have to add some sort of real time technology. That ball call changed the at bat, pushed Greinke out of the game and effectively ended the Astros World Series. It was a 2 ball count, not sure if it was 2-1 or 2-0. But once he got to 3 balls, he wasn’t going near the plate with Soto. It was a pretty bad call too, well within the zone.
  11. Hinch will be questioned forever on this one. Greinke has one of the best game 7 performances of all time. You’ve got a lead. You’ve got the best pitcher in baseball in your pen. I know Harris has been awesome this year, but he’s not Cole.
  12. Might have called that one. 3-2 Nats
  13. Great game from Greinke. Hinch might be pulling him early. Soto got some calls there
  14. Greinke might go 7 or 8
  15. Eovaldi has made thirty starts once in his career. The likelihood that happens again is low.
  16. No matter the outcome, I am gonna miss baseball after today
  17. Yes it is. Hell of a game thus far
  18. They stay within the org
  19. Gardner was a plus defender in 2019. Any chance it’s the same in 2020? I don’t want to depend on Gardner only to have Father Time strip him of his abilities. He’s fine as a backup, but he’s probably looking at a multi year deal after 2019 and I don’t want to pay that.
  20. I have our next target. Yoshi Tsutsugo, lefty power hitting OFer being posted this November. 27 yr old power hitter with great patience, might cost around what Gardy costs but should be a good for awhile as opposed to Gardner who is fighting Father Time.
  21. The writing was on the wall when it was Cashman who had to convince Rothschild how to utilize Paxton’s pitch mix. As the story was reported, Cashman and his analytics team noted Paxton’s breaking ball was generating very weak contact. He recommended to Paxton and Rothschild to utilize it more, something they initially resisted. Once fully implemented, though, Paxton won 10 games in a row. If the GM has to recommend something to the pitching coach to get the most out of his player, then the coach is replaceable
  22. I think his contract is tradeable. I also think they can get a hell of a prospect if they pay some of it down too
  23. The big thing for JD is that it adds a year, but it adds his year 35 season. How much can he reasonably get for his age 35 season? $19 mil isn't too bad
  24. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/10/mlbtr-live-chat-465.html Mlbtr chat expects JDM to opt out. He’s a candidate for the CWS. He predicted a 4 yr $80 mil deal
  25. This Urquidy kid has gas I didn't know he had. Really sneaky delivery
