  1. No way we see Maybin and Gardner back. It's one or the other or none. With Hicks down into June, Tauchman becomes our CFer with no real backup. I guess Judge could go to CF and Stanton to RF in a pinch, but I wouldn't make a habit of doing that. We could use another OFer capable of playing CF. That being said, Gardy isn't gonna come cheap. Maybin likely isn't gonna come cheap. I let them both walk and sign a defensive whiz like Lagares or Hamilton and at least have the defensive part of it covered should Tauchman go down. We must prioritize a starter. Maybe we don't go in for Cole and Strasburg, but we must come away with someone to lead this rotation and show the rest of the rotation how it is done.
  2. Yet he was entirely healthy for 2018. Short memory. Stanton was just snakebite this year. There is no other way around it. He goes down with biceps tendinitis. They decide to inject a sore shoulder thinking he's gonna miss a month anyway. The shoulder becomes the bigger issue as he reacted to the injection and needed an additional month to recover. He returns, gets hit in the calf and tears his calf muscle. He returns, dives into third and tears his PCL. He returns too soon and pulls his quad. The only injuries there that worry you are the quad and the biceps. The quad is understandable since he was favoring the knee. The biceps was unprovoked. Other than that, what can you do? A calf tear on an HBP? Tearing a knee ligament sliding into third base face first? He will be healthy next year. He'll have an annual soft tissue injury of some sort. But I can bet anyone here that he wont be served with the same ridiculous s*** luck he was this year. He'll smack 40 homers, drive in 100 and he'll be the toast of the town next year.
  3. You just cannot help yourself, can you troll. Well, I'll bite. Chapman has been one of the best closers in baseball for his entire career. Yeah, he gave up a HR to Altuve. Yeah, it sucked. But Mariano Rivera blew two saves in an epic 3-0 series comeback vs his hated rivals and he ended up being okay. Singular bad moments don't define hall of fame players and Chapman is creating a hall of fame type career. Yankees garbage? You really are a moron. Voit was injured the second half of the season. He got injured in London. Prior to London, his line was .279/.383/.508. No sooner did the Yankees season end than Voit was on the OR table fixing his sports hernia. He was recommended for surgery in July which would have ended his season. He stuck through to try and help the team win the title, but he was too injured to be of any good. Add that to his line from the end of 2018 and you have a full season of a guy hitting over .900 OPS. That isn't garbage you twit German was an 18 game winner with solid K and walk rates and broke out in his first protracted taste of a big league rotation. Yes, his domestic case will be sticky, but he comes with at least 3 more years of control and an arsenal that will put him squarely in at least the middle of another team's rotation. Once again, not garbage. You really are a moron. Keep em comin troll
  4. I’m pretty skeptical on the mlbtr predictions. I know they’re something like 10% correct, but their dollar values are usually close to accurate. I agree that I think the Sox sign one reliever. Strop is a good call as he’s got stuff and intermittent production. There’s zero chance the yanks walk away without a veteran starter. We need an ace, but we might get a guy like Wheeler or Bumgarner just to lead the rotation
  5. So JD stays. Merloni was talking about this on the way home. He says this allows the Sox to deal off Betts and keep a pretty good offense. Also, this spells the end for JBJ as they need to free up some cash. Not sure if he’s right, but Merloni knows baseball and certainly has some history with the Sox
  6. I honestly think that is new age cockiness thinking that you can use numbers to predict the outcome of a player who is 20 yrs old. You just cannot. It is entirely an inexact science.
  7. So the players whined and whined about not getting their big offers sooner, etc. The owners proposed a moratorium on long term FA deals 2 weeks after the conclusion of the winter meetings and the players balked. I thought the owners proposal was great. AND it actually HURTS the owners. Think about it. There is a soft deadline for most FAs and that's spring training. When the owners can wait a player out into the season, they gain leverage. The player wants to play. This would have essentially set a hard deadline on multi year FA deals. So the players lost a lot of credibility in this by refusing to give a little to get a little
  8. They’re both entirely untreadeable or at least should be. Both ended the year hurt and needed procedures on their pitching arms. You don’t salary dump them now while their value is at its absolute lowest.
  9. Santana is a streaky hitter who cannot play defense to save his life. He will not be worth his arbitration number
  10. This whole 5 days after the WS thing is f***ing stupid. It is meant to allow teams and players on world series winning or losing clubs to decide their fates with enough time after the champagne stops flowing. Well, Strasburg probably still smells like bubbly and he already opted out. These guys are savvy enough to know on Oct 1 whether they're opting out or not. You don't need 5 days after the ASB
  11. We have done nothing to dispel our ability to go after a top tier starter. Chapman brings us back to status quo in terms of potential effective losses. Didi and Gardner are redundant and internally replaceable. Chapman, not so much, especially how our pitching staff is built. Maybe that changes with some trades. Maybe Voit and German get packaged for a top tier starter or a slugging left hander. Who knows, we can go in so many directions and have so much internal redundancy that we can get pretty much anything. The only thing we are missing is a true blue, top notch ace. That is it. We have literally everything else
  12. The idea of being dealt off is not appealing to a player of JD's stature. He would just as soon choose his own destination than have it chosen for him, especially if the money could be a wash or even a positive if he opted for freedom
  13. There is some truth to this situation. There are TONS of guys that are held on to just as roster fillers or organizational guys playing out their last fantasies to play professional ball until they realize that they aren't gonna see the bigs. Guys whose entire existence in the minors is to get the real prospects ready for the show. If you essentially eliminated a level, you'd need to keep less of those guys and allow them to jump into their actual careers sooner. The flip side to that is the coaches in the lower levels are the guys who miss out. Plenty of guys who go through the ranks as coaches lower down can earn their keep at upper levels or in the bigs if they just get the opportunity. This would eliminate opportunities
  14. Why would he hate it in NY? He had never seen the playoffs prior to coming to NY and he's seen playoff baseball two years in a row. Also, if our roster construction was different, I would say "Hell No" to the idea of moving him. But we aren't exactly hurting for RH power hitters. I would NOT entertain any dumping of his salary. You remember that his lux tax number is only $22 mil for the Yanks. Yes, I know they're paying him the equivalent of $28 mil per year ($31.7 mil AAV on his final 10 seasons minus $3 mil AAV the Marlins are throwing in). But as far as the lux tax goes, you could do far worse than Stanton for that number.
  15. Not really. He's been as consistent as can be for years and put up one of his best career seasons. Also, the fact we got him on a 3 yr deal is pretty solid as well. Also, this deal lowers his AAV, believe it or not. His new contract is now 3 yrs $48 mil, or $16 mil AAV. He was at $17.2 mil. Every little bit helps.
  16. There’s a rumor that the Rangers are looking to deal for a Sox starter. It sounds like they’ve zeroed in on Eovaldi. Sox would have to kick in some money, but he’s got enough upside where the Sox could probably get out from under half his contract.
  17. So Chapman is back in the fold. We’re right below the lux tax threshold at $207 mil right now (Hale was non tendered). We have $40 mil to play with before hitting the final line, assuming all else return. That’s an entirely intact, mostly young returning team that won 103 games with the best team in the League losing their best player, so not a bad starting point. I do wonder if we get another starter, do we clear some salary. Does Ottavino get moved? Do we try to deal off Stanton? I’d be fine with the former. I don’t like doing the latter. Stanton at $22 mil AAV isn’t bad and if we use him as a mostly full time DH, he should stay healthy. He was just snake bit this year and I don’t like moving on from all star or even fringe HOF talents when their value is low
  18. Nailed it to the penny.
  19. That’s the rub. The Sox get a comp pick after the fourth round. But a team signing him could lose their 2nd and 5th rounder
  20. This is what JD is doing right now. He’s either negotiating an extension with the Sox or he’s lining up suitors through back channels to ensure a soft landing should he opt out. Yes, it’s tampering, but there’s no way Boras isn’t doing it
  21. Pomeranz got up to 96mph in relief. He was the most dominant reliever in the second half and actually out pitched his counterpart, Hader. Chapman wants to come back. We will get a 4th rounder if he walks. No issue there. I do wonder if him opting out and is resigning him can actually lower his AAV. We paid him $56 over his first 3 seasons. He’s only got 2yrs $30 mil left. Maybe we let him opt out, and offer a 3 yr $48 mil deal and drop his AAV by nearly 2 mil
  22. You cannot just leave the offense entirely alone. With Didi and Gardner departing, we will become even more right handed. Our offense has struggled vs same sided throwers for three years in a row and we are about to lose two lefties. Gennett is a lefty and playing in YS would be a great way to recoup value Interestingly, we out pitched the Astros in the ALCS. We just couldn’t get the big hits when we needed them
  23. Gennett was hurt and never recovered. The question is, can he be healthy? I’d love to go one year deal with him for the Yanks
