  1. What needs to be realized is that the Braves can very easily live for 08 with a great pen of Wickman closing, Soriano and Gonzalez setting up. They dont HAVE to deal Wickman. At the same token, the sox have one of the worst bullpens this side of Tampa Bay while sinking nearly 140 mil into a team that will have a good offense and rotation. They dont have the luxury of waiting this out. The Braves would have them over a barrel. Though he wont be as costly as Cordero, he will still cost the sox something of value.
  2. He took the ball as the 1 for the ALDS and beat a team that went to the WS. He can handle the pressure. What is funny though, is what he compares the pressure to. After throwing well but losing against ANA in 05, he was asked about pressure and he said that the pressure in NY is nowhere near what it was when Taiwan played Japan for a medal in the Olympics. The kid has ice in his veins. That said, he is not a guy who you can expect to throw 8IP 1ER performances a few times a month. But he wont have the games where he gives up 7 in 3IP. He is a very consistent pitcher who will give solid performances in NY against anyone. He is perfect for us. Who cares where he's slotted. Personally, I dont think he starts the opener. Mussina or Pettitte will just out of sheer nostalgia. But Wang is the best pitcher of the three.
  3. which one is more injury prone, bonds or drew?
  4. that would be hilarious.
  5. Wickman isnt a long range option, but a good short term one. He's on a one yr deal.
  6. JDL Drew would miss the season with a broken nail. Do you have any idea how long cuticle takes to grow back!!
  7. Youk will hit .280 10-15HR 60-70RBI and get on base between .370-.400. He fits your situation perfectly.
  8. DET, LAA, OAK. Even without Zito, the A's will have a solid rotation.
  9. BSN. He is NOT an NL closer. The guy spent half of last yr in the AL and in 05 he was the AL saves leader. He is far from spectacular, but he was 33/37 in SvOps last yr and 45/50 the yr before. He's ugly, he's fat, he doesnt have the best stuff, but he is a guy who will plod along and be a solid yet unspectacular closer. You guys shouldnt need a lights out bullpen with your rotation having the potential to be nasty. You need one that wont give it up twice a week, like the one that is currently constructed.
  10. on potential, the sox could be 1. For predictions purposes, the sox will end as #4 and the yankees as #6. Bank it, YOWZAH!!
  11. acting as stupid as this thread is.
  12. ROFLCOPTER!!11!!1!!!!1!
  13. this is a great deal for us. This means the team that had been talking about moving Gonzalez to us now has him. With Vizcaino on the team now, he and Melky may be enough.
  14. http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=168564 Sporting news rated the yankees 3rd and the Sox 10th in the AL.
  15. schill, blocking for LJ was not the problem. It was when they called the run. The colts predicted the plays well and there was no escape for LJ. BTW, Bob Sanders is a difference maker on that team. Rodney is a difference maker on the pats, but he has a partially torn ACL and likely wont play.
  16. There is a rumor floating about that Clemens is sitting back and waiting to see how Houston's offense starts the season. Clemens is apparently in horrible shape because he doesnt have a WBC to prepare for. If the stros O turns solid with Lee and Berkman, then he'll go home. But from the sounds of it, he was very disappointed with the O in Houston last yr and this is one of the reasons why he is even on the market.
  17. While I by no means gloss over what he did, he admitted under oath to what he did.
  18. I almost spit out my soda when I read McCarver.
  19. No. But with Cashman's recent philosophy of garnering minor league top prospects and not pouncing on Zito or Schmidt when he easily could have outbid, it makes me think Cashman has a limit for Clem. But with these published reports of the Yankees being determined not to be outbid, it makes me think this demand is coming from above.
  20. I dont know kilo. I honestly dont know. Cashman has his fingerprints all over this offseason. But from the published reports in the papers, Cashman has a determination not to be outbid on Clemens. That isnt like his thoughts. Kinda like theo, there is a limit to the worth of a player (granted, I think Cashman's thoughts of worth are a little higher than Theo's).
  21. he took winstrol, which is a very detectable anabolic steroid. I was surprised he tested positive for that. It wasnt the cream and clear stuff.
  22. example, his "tumor" was considered to be potentially caused by steroid use. He already had a very rich deal, he was set for life and he was already a mockery in the eyes of the public, so getting into the HOF was not something he was worried about. There was no earthly reason to assume that he is taking them again. What would he have to gain aside from fans adulation?
