  1. JD didnt necessarily suck. He just couldnt find the field and got ARod-itis in the clutch. But he will be the guy the sox regret signing. His throwing shoulder fails a physical. He hardly stays on the field. He'll be going to a less than friendly LH hitter park. I dont think he is going to fail, I just see him spending tons of time on the DL and being drained of his power. He'll get on base no doubt, but at 14 mil a season for a guy who is 31/32, an injury waiting to happen and over 5 yrs, you are begging for an injury. He will be the guy they regret mostly because of his health. Lugo wont be disappointing. He'll be a bad D SS. He'll run a bit. He'll hit .280 and be a pest on the basepaths. You cannot make judgements when you take a starter and bench him on the left coast.
  2. agreed, clement is toast as a red sock.
  3. I know he was a switch, but that was a long time ago. Anyone else?
  4. Here is the list thus far. The only guy they seemed to like was Doubront 50.) Jordan Craft, P 49.) Jose Capellan, P 48.) Kris Negron, IF 47.) Mike Jones, 1B 46.) Josh Papelbon, P 45.) Jon Still, C 44.) Zach Daegas, OF 43.) Dustin Richardson, P 42.) Felix Doubront, P 41.) Tim Cox, P 40.) Yahmed Yema, OF 39.) Mark Wagner, C 38.) Barry Hertzler, P 37.) Jeremy West, 1B/DH
  5. Hey scaff, are there any sox position players that have made the switch to pitcher this past yr. Sometimes it really takes off. Great armed OFs who cannot hit moving to the mound. I say this because I was reading scout.com and there is a yankee kid who was just converted, 21 yr old Wilkins de la Rosa. He had a .505 OPS in low A ball and was converted during instructs to pitcher. He is a lefty who has been clocked in the high 90s. Granted, he needs a TON of work, but there seems to be someone every yr that makes that transition. This would be the second yr in a row for NY, Ferdin Tejeda was switched and he was hitting high 90s before TJ knocked him out until mid 07. I know Edgar Martinez made the switch, but has anyone else?
  6. he also sucked.
  7. http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070125&content_id=1786296&vkey=news_nyy&fext=.jsp&c_id=nyy This is very interesting. 1.3B of untapped talent in a nation that loves baseball. This could be a very profitable and fruitful venture.
  8. because on another forum, I saw this under the MLB page. There was an announcement of a press conference and speculation was that the cubs and big Z reached a deal. Obviously they didnt. PLEASE CLOSE THE THREAD Mods.
  9. it is a tiny guess. No substance to it. Proctor right now is leagues better than Hansen and Hansen has the possibility of going belly up under pressure. I am just giving you an example of a guy who had all the stuff in the world who just didnt click until he had a ton of time under his belt.
  10. but he wasnt replaced. Unless you think Ramon Ortiz and Sidney Ponson can anchor the middle of a rotation.
  11. Radke was a huge part of that team. Liriano pitched until August 7th and in that time span was 12-3. They got on an late hot streak, but missing one of their most consistent arms and one of their most electric and replacing them with 3 washed up vets and 2 kids vying for 4 spots is a bad plan. Especially for a team that was built on pitching.
  12. also, I still think he will be a solid major leaguer. But not any time soon. He reminds me of Scott Proctor when he came to NY in 03. He was very unrefined in 04 and struggled. He was still unrefined in 05. And in 06, he was refined, at 29! And his fastball and slider are just as good as Hansens in raw form, but it took him 8 yrs to refine it.
  13. Command is certainly helped by working in the offseason, but as with everything, you can be great in warmups, but you learn best in the game. Hansen needs serious TLC in the minors. I'd put him in AA for the yr and move him up to AAA for 08 and put him as the closer in 09. He lost his movement on his heater. He leaves it down the middle. His slider was great in his first visit to fenway in 05. It has since lost bite. He might be trying to locate it better, but the fact is that the bite is gone and the locations still sucks shows how green he still is. He has gone backwards since college, that is a bad thing.
  14. Johan is going to get Roger Clemens in Houston style frustration. That offense has Mauer and Morneau. Morneau is a guy who had a career second half. Mauer is a constant injury problem. Hunter hits every now and then. Cuddyer was the worst clutch, RBI man in baseball and the rest of that lineup is AWFUL. And 4 of every 5 turns in that rotation, their solid pen and spotty lineup will need to win the game. That will be BAD.
  15. this yr they'll be bottom feeders. That division is LOADED with talent sans KC. I have a feeling there will be some serious feelers sent out on Johan this AS break when he is 5-15 with a 1.9 ERA.
  16. I dont think Ellsbury is on the 40 man yet. If that is the case, then inviting him to ST may start his clock. Not sure, but if the sox have plans for him this season, they shouldnt touch him till midseason so they get 6 full yrs out of him.
  17. MOVE TO MASS VA!!! You can become MA Sox fan.
  18. he is also a moron who has been lucky to have Terry Ryan and Tom Kelly at his side for awhile now.
  19. Therein lies the problem. They didnt catch lightning in the bottle with Paps. He was developed. Came through college, and went to short season in 03. In 04, he destroyed A+ ball for a full yr. In 05, he DOMINATED AA, DOMINATED in a 7 game stint in AAA and was needed in the majors. He was rushed, a little, but he was refined enough. Hansen was drafted in 05, and threw 2 games in the GCL, 8 games in Portland and then zoomed directly to the bigs in 05. If Hansen got nearly an entire 2 seasons in the minors like Paps did, I have no doubt he would have turned that solid stuff and plus control into plus COMMAND. That is what develops last for the most part. Hansen never got it, Paps has it, Bard isnt even close to it. Bard would be even more messed up than Hansen if he came up right now.
  20. you forgot arroyo and AGon too.
  21. agreed CoC. He's a kid with average results against college competition with major league heat. He has a LOT of refining to do. But his kind of arm doesnt come round often.
  22. Batting Practice!!!
  23. ah just bustin balls again.
  24. kinda posting and watching a movie, will check back later.
