  1. having players with "something to prove" typically means you are having players who sucked recently.
  2. yes they can. He can now be a PTBNL as he was drafted 6 months ago, nearly to the day.
  3. 33 inch ultra-lite black bat, same model as Jeter. I littered the field with kindling once college ball switched to wood.
  4. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/story/492676p-415019c.html The Rockies have agreed to eat half the salary, but want the sox to throw in Hansen, MDC, or Bard. The sox are balking. boston globe and herald have stories out too. It seems that the Rockies want 2 players who could help down the line. Hansen has been the first name brought up, the others indicated at Bard, Ellsbury, or MDC.
  5. the SLG is nearly the same. I am surprised about that. I was looking at HR totals, and Drew's are stunted by his considerable injury history. To use the roids thing is preposterous to say the least. Helton, Drew, and Abreu experienced a drop in SLG. Abreu at least had his career SLG in NY for the last half the yr.
  6. Hansen or Ellsbury would have to be included IMHO. I dont see both, but I could see Hansen and MDC. I wouldnt be surprised if Lowell and Clement were thrown in to manage the salary difference for this yr. Then next yr, Lester could slide into Schilling's spot in the rotation and they'd break even on cash. I know it is thinking ahead, but they are right against the cap and going over it with these recent, long term, high cash moves, can really cause some problems.
  7. abreu and Helton is a good comparison. Abreu and Drew is not. Abreu had a lot more power, average, more speed, and more walks than Drew. Drew is a poor man's Abreu. Helton is a slower Abreu at 1b. If healthy, that 2-6 would be on base near .400. That will be a painful lineup to face. At the same time, Helton's salary is now not too terrible, so they dont need to move him now. It is the longevity that is the problem. I dont think this will be a sheer salary dump. If an injured RJ can return 3 MLB ready prospects and a solid reliever, then Helton should be worth more than just Lowell and Tavares.
  8. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6414656 Rosenthal says the money has not been agreed to and the deal does not include Lowell. Rather Hansen and two other prospects, one may be Ellsbury.
  9. one thing I do find interesting is that this guy turns 34 in August and is signed for 6 yrs. He has had a power decline even before this intestinal illness and it will continue to be harder to hit the ball out of the park in Fenway as opposed to Coors. He will be deadly on pitchers with his patience and he has a great glove. But he is signed for 18 per until he is 40. Is that a good move?
  10. Sanchez will be reporting to ST as a starter rather than a reliever as was indicated previously. He will get his shot at the bigs in the 5 slot when Pavana breaks a nail.
  11. I was reading uponthemonster and they said something like the Japanese hitters have excellent patience and ability to foul balls off, so high K rates over there are not deceiving. Then I hear others say that the japanese leagues are hack and slash type leagues. I dont know who to believe. Settle this s*** on the field.
  12. this is interesting. Helton would be equivalent to the Abreu move as far as picking up an early 30s OBP machine. Helton isnt the 49HR guy anymore. He's more a Lyle Overbay with a better eye. But he'll fit into that lineup nice and they'll grind down pitching something fierce. Imagine the amount of pitches seen when we face each other. 1. Damon CF 1. Lugo SS 2. Jeter SS 2. Drew RF 3. Abreu RF 3. Ortiz DH 4. Rodriguez 3B 4. Ramirez LF 5. Giambi DH 5. Helton 1B 6. Matsui LF 6. Youkilis 3B 7. Posada C 7. Varitek C 8. Cano 1B 8. Crisp CF 9. Mienk/Phelps 1B 9. Pedroia 2B BATTLE ROYALE MOTHER f***ER!!! 9,000 pitches thrown in a 3 game set.
  13. 6yrs 52 is pretty cheap. 6yrs 103 on the other hand, is a TON of bank. Time will tell if he is worth that.
  14. Linda is a crack whore who smokes dick for rock. She's too strung out for a gang. Moose has the charisma to run into a liquor store with a 9 screamin to hit the deck, but I dont think he's dumb enough to do it. Then there's rodney. He'd be my choice.
  15. I dont think they are bad, I like our rotation. I just dont love them in the playoffs. They'll be consistent and give innings, that is about it.
  16. I'm not optimistic about the entire team my friend. I still dont like our rotation come playoff time.
  17. ESPN is rumoring that Helton for Lowell can get the job done. The Rockies want to rid themselves of the contract and taking one yr of Lowell at 9 mil vs 6yrs of 90 mil for Helton is their bit.
  18. it concerned me last yr. After his solid 120 inning rookie season, I thought he, Chacon and Small were flukes. Chacon and Small were. But Wang is strange. If you look at his numbers, his K rate doubles when he needs a K, his GB% rises significantly with a runner on 1b, and the XBH off him are mostly hit when nobody is on base. He has the second lowest P/IP in the game and one of the best GB%. You can say that is a fluke, but I have watched him for nearly all of his 330IP. He looks like he is trying to make the batter get himself out. He does not have a K pitchers mentality. That is why he lasts so long. If he tries for the K, his pitch count goes way up. And with his injury history and Torre's love for his bullpen, he'd be pulled regularly. Wang is strange, but he is no fluke. expect something similar to last yr.
  19. He will. He doesnt fool anyone. This isnt mirrors or tricks. He throws a 95mph biting sinker 80% of the time, an inconsistent slider 15%, and a change that is for show about 5-6 times a game. You know what is coming. You just cannot hit it. He'll be fine assuming he stays healthy. What you should be concerned with is what happens if he develops his other pitches. If he turns that slider into a great pitch, then he'll start K'ing a lot more.
  20. Actually Moose, there was a report on CNN about LA and its rising gang violence. There are over 70,000 gang members reported to be living and running the streets of the LA metro area. That is a TON of gang members. LA is run by gangs, as you probably know and the police are puppets over there.
  21. He doesnt "cheat a system". He has 330IP of baseball under his belt with a career era sub 4 as well as two solid playoff starts. He'll only get better or stay the same so long as he stays healthy.
