  1. guys, let adam have his meltdowns. It is funny what an angry, partially illiterate kid can try and type when the juices are flowin. BTW, all you new yorkers do suck....LOL. And the point about the pitchers not knowing how to pitch him is laughable. The pitcher ALWAYS has the advantage because the hitter doesnt have the experience facing the pitcher. What is easier, throwing a 95 mph fastball by a guy or hitting a perfectly located one? My point exactly. Wily Mo was on his way to establishing himself as a pretty ood OFer until he hurt his wrist. He just hasnt been the same, and I am sure that losing your spot in the offseason when your position opens is a bit disheartening. As I have said before, the sox are waiting for him to go on a hot streak and then ship him when his stock is high. He is a terrible 4th OFer as he is a poor defender and he isnt much of a pinch hit threat right now because he is so easy to K. The sox are a better team with Murphy as the 4th OFer simply because of his speed and defense. Unfortunately, they are stuck with WMP in the majors cause of his contract.
  2. I'll give you three tries, and one hint. Everyone is pulling it!!
  3. The sox pitching staff right now is very strong.
  4. sorry for the typo. My cpu sucks real bad and the keyboard is in need of replacing.
  5. Vlad was 0-2? That is a joke of umpiring. I know Beckett wasnt throwing at him and I am watching gameday.
  6. that is completely ridiculous btw. You dont give warnings at that point. You wait until there is retaliation.
  7. bad news. Bad, bad news for the angels.
  8. I can almost guarantee Ortiz is getting drilled today. Scoscia doesnt mess around. You come up and in on their best player and you get your own blasted.
  9. I have no idea, the game isnt on.
  10. HR by cabrera? Wow, those winds must be enormous.
  11. and gameday has decided to suck once again. No radar gun for me today.
  12. weather.com says it is 46 degrees with a 20-40 mph wind. It has to be f***ing COLD.
  13. If they released him, he'd get a very lucrative deal somewhere else. And if you think a guy will sign on to play in the minors, you are crazy. The only way this kid gets any better is if he leaves Boston and gets regular playing time.
  14. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/2007/04/16/2007-04-16_torre_pauses_to_salute_jackie-1.html Sounds like he is ready. He is eligible to return in one week and should be ready and back in the swing of things prior to the sox playing in the Bronx. But he will miss the upcoming series in the Fen.
  15. seabeach, you can try as you might, but you dont have the backing for this season to say anything about Wily Mo. WMP has a track record of serious power with tons of potential and a huge all or nothing swing. He could be an asset to any team as his skill set is rare to say the least. But he is as raw a ball player I have ever seen and his contract porked him. He would be much better off if he were dealt to the Pirates and played every day.
  16. lots of jerkin.
  17. I agree. But you can tell when a pitcher skated by and when a pitcher was just dominant. I said in the gamecast of Pavano's last start (no pun intended, but it might be his last start, lol) that he skated by in the first three innings. He left pitches up and over the plate and against a better lineup, he has a crooked number hung on him in the first 3. After that, he was dynamite. Not the same with Pettitte. He was off in the first and they got 2 runs. But from the 2nd on, he was untouchable and vintage. No team would have hit him well.
  18. Wrong on both counts. Igawa left with a 4-3 lead and Farns blew it by allowing 1 run. And yesterday, Mo had his typical april gaffe. I have actually been advocating moving Farns to middle relief until he gets his stuff back. When he is on, he is completely untouchable. But when he is off, he is unwatchable. Right now he fits into the second category and I dont want to see leads in the 7th and 8th wasted so he can get his kinks out. We have a plethora of strong relievers who can take his place. Proctor looked very strong yesterday. Vizcaino and Bruney have been horses out there and Henn is pitching very well out of relief. Our pen will need to hold together a little longer. As for Wang on the DL, his previous problems were shoulder and elbow. A hammy happens and it seems to be happening in increasing frequency on this team. I dont worry about those kinds of injuries. The only 2 injuries I am worried about are Karstens and Pavano. Karstens had elbow stiffness, but he checked out okay and will return soon. But that bears serious watching. And anytime a pitcher leaves with forearm tightness, I immediately think tendon or ligament. Sometimes forearm pain is a sign of UCL damage and hence TJ surgery. Other times it is a strained muscle in the forearm and boy are there a lot of them. And with Pussano's history, I would not be surprised if he is out for an extended period of time. As for Mussina and Wang, they'll be back very soon and will be fine.
  19. one big lead blown by the pen. The other was blown in part by Igawa. As for our pitching, Wright is not a has been or a never was. He is a 24 yr old prospect. Small and Chacon are has beens and never were's. As for Hughes, he had 2 lackluster performances in the spring, dominated in AAA spring after the demotion, was dominant in his first start and sucked in his second. If you look at Hughes track record, he has struggled for about 5 starts every time he was promoted. Then he kicks it in. Now as for when he gets the callup, if any of these injuries that are befalling us were season long, Hughes would be getting the call. But as it is, we are weathering the storm rather nicely and we may only need this kid for one start. As I have said before, we suck in april. It is in our blood, so if we get these injuries out of the way now, we will be alright come May 1. To this point, we should have our entire projected rotation by the last series with you guys and from then on, it will be on. I am not worried to this point. Wang back in 10 days, Mussina back in 10 days (his 15 day DL stint was retroactive), Pavano back in 14 days. Karstens back in 5 days. Nothing long term. And with 2 off days in 5 scheduled days and a deluge of epic proportions hitting the northeast, I would assume we get another off soon enough. Dont count us out yet.
  20. Tabata had another 3 hits and raised his AVG to .389. Miranda chipped in with 2 hits and is finally coming around. He is now hitting .312 in A+ ball. I expect him to see a callup soon as he is on the fasttrack after defecting from Cuba.
  21. I actually said that Mussina and Pavano would see the DL at some point this yr. It is nearly a foregone conclusion. I just didnt think they would be on the DL when Wang and Karstens were on the DL as well. And to this point the depth has been challenged, no doubt. But we are still holding back. Chase Wright is our hottest minor league pitcher in terms of performance. In terms of his ranking, he is pretty low mostly due to his lack of power stuff. But he is already on the 40 man roster, so we didnt have to waive anyone for this one start. If Cashman was simply going for this win and was going to use the best he has, Hughes is pitching in the rotation already with Clippard not far behind. But both would have to be added to the 40 man one to two yrs before they absolutely need to be. And bsn, over our last 5 games in which our starts did not go down with an injury (Moose game in Minny excluded), our rotation has thrown 30.2IP, for an average of slightly over 6IP per start. It just seems like our pen has worked so much because we had 7 innings of extra frames. Once we get our full complement of starting pitchers back, our rotation will be less of a mess. As I have said before, you cannot quantify what CMW means to us in terms of his durability. On any given night, his pitch counts are usually so low that he can be stretched to 7-8 innings if need be. He is the only pitcher in our rotation who has that versatility.
  22. already posted in the general section.
  23. and as far as your relief being fine, ell, if you only need 1 inning of middle relief every game, then you can have a shitbum there and you'll be fine. To this point, your rotation has been stellar, your offense has been poor but is showing signs and your relief has been inconsistent but enough to get the job done. For us, our offense has been damn good, our rotation has been poor but was improving until they all went on a DL party and our relief had been spectacular until Mo had his annual April gaffe. Neither of our teams have had regular playing time in terms of long stretches of games. The hot hot weather hasnt come yet and the sluggin teams havent come to our parks yet. It starts tomorrow for you guys when you have Toronto and us twice in 10 days and for us when we see Cleveland and then you guys. The pen will see some serious work and you can make a judgement then.
