DMats is showing what I expected, believe it or not. Struggle early and strengthen later. I said before, he doesnt have anything you wont see, so the advantage is in the hitters corner early on. But once he learns the league he will dominate. He is the opposite of Nomo and the like because he isnt a novelty, even though the league would love to say otherwise. He is a pitcher with 6 major league pitches. 6 pitches that are not unique but the assortment is. Hence, the hitters arent fooled by the pitch itself. Once DMats learns that pitching backwards doesnt work in the AL, he will do much better. Right now he is 50/50 in offspeed/fastball ratio. If he gets that up to 70%, he will be very well off.

didnt manny have an average in the .220 range in 05 by june and then finished hitting close to .400 the last 3 months and finished with a .295 average? Worrying about Manny is like worrying the sun wont come up. Eventually, you may be right, but dont hold your breath.

Igawa had to come out with the tying runs on base. He is too prone to the longball. As I have described before, Igawa is like the old cartoons where there is a stick of dynamite and a long fuse. He will blow up if you leave him out there long enough. The trick is to get him before the fuse runs out. Instead of him giving up the game tying 3 run yack and Farns blowing it, he comes out with confidence knowing that he beat the red sox and made them look bad in the process. I do not agree with Joe pinch running AGAIN when the game is close. Giambi not in the game guarantees ARod gets pitched around if the pen doesnt hold it.

Sorry, your pitching staff will keep you in a lot of games this yr and I have said before that you needed a big lead coming out of april as our rotation was coming together. Once it does, I think we smash through the league. But, a near 9 game lead would have been awful tough to overcome. If we can get it to 4.5, things become a lot easier.

If you came in and took the first 2 of this series, you could have delivered one hell of a knockout blow. Tomorrow, you could have kept Tavarez on a short leash going for the sweep knowing that you have an offday on Monday and maybe come away with one. Instead, Wake didnt give you enough innings and Igawa comes out of nowhere and is made to look like f***in Koufax. Tomorrow, our ace takes the hill, a guy you have handled to this point, but he is certainly the better bet going against your lineup than Tav is against ours. Either way, after finding a way to get blown out last night when we had a 2 run lead in the 5th, we found a way to win after our starter got knocked out after 2 batters. If we take it tomorrow and show some f***ing offensive life, we may be able to come off the matt and give you guys a run for it. If you win tomorrow, then the psychological toll of that victory could be too much to bear this early. Either way, huge win today for us when we shouldnt have won, and if we can take it tomorrow, we should be flying high into our roadtrip and subsequent off day.
