    they look like melons right now. He's a guy I like having in the rotation right now, but with a bunch of guys pounding on the door for next yr and with an inevitable steady decline for Moose, I am not loving the idea of him being here next yyr.

    If Steinny gave the edict like many people are "reporting", then we will offer him top AAV and then match the yrs he wants. If this is just Cashman protecting his lineup, then you may be right. I have a feeling Steinny will fire Cashman if ARod opts out and gets a better deal than the one we were offering.

    dont you mean "if" he opts out? I have a feeling Boras is going to use the opt out deadline like he used DiceK's deadline to go back to Japan. See how far he can push, but I dont think he will get a better deal than here. I dont see any other team throw around 30+ mil a season until he is nearly 40. That makes no sense.

    the sox do not need another pen arm. Most teams dont have 1 lights out pen arm, you guys have 2. If you have that, then the rejevenated offense will give you plenty of leads and guys like DiceK and Beckett and can the ball right to OkiPap. I think the one area the sox must strengthen is the rotation. If Schilling comes back as the shitbag he was when he left, then he wont be an upgrade over s***** Gabbard anyway. That moves Wake to your 3 in terms of reliability, which is never good.

    Buchholz should not be the answer either. Having him end last yr in long season A and end up this season in the majors is WAY too big of a jump. He needs to build that arm strength, and being incorporated into a MLB rotation for the last 3 months is not a way to build anything except an injury history. Ask Mark Prior. I think the sox are monitoring the trade wires well. I wouldnt be surprised if they took a run at Contreras since he will be easier to get.

    he is tiring, look at the numbers I posted. Lester might need to have the reigns pulled back and prolong his ETA until 2008. He isnt ready, and likely wont be ready this season. Bringing him up right now could ruin him as a prospect.

    he wont be traded for anything valuable. As Kilo correctly noted, JT hasnt been a full season starter for a long time and the 100 innings threshold may be too difficult to cross at this juncture. That being said, Lester hasnt lit up AAA like many think he has. His ERA is 3.90 which is okay, but his 1.36WHIP and his recent ineptitude should keep him in AAA for a while longer. Over his last 7 starts, here are his #s 2-4 6.00ERA 36IP 42H 24ER 28K 20BB for a WHIP of 1.72. He is fatiguing as expected and is pitching like s***. Bringing up Lester would be an awful idea.
