  1. not a good idea considering you have Beckett and his recent history of arm/hand troubles, DiceK who is in his first season of pitching every 5 days, and then a rookie in the rotation all at the same time. If you had older horses, then maybe.
  2. over the last 3 seasons, the AL is winning 56% of the games and is 98 games over .500. Is that enough for you?
  3. right now, Wake and Tavarez arent even pitching like #5's. If you can get a guy who can give you a mid 4's era and win half his decisions, you'll be doing pretty good.
  4. Joba starts the first game of today's DH. He has been ridiculous in his last 2 starts.. 13IP 7H 0ER 2BB 21K and overall, he has thrown 15.1 consecutive scoreless innings.
  5. 5.5 ERA, 2.06WHIP, 6.5 BB per 9 and a .305 BAA. There is no saving grace for this guy, he has completely and totally regressed. Remember, last yr he dominated AAA.
  6. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/20/sports/baseball/20pins.html?_r=1&ref=baseball&oref=slogin They dont say it outright, but Hughes will throw 75 pitches in AAA on Monday, then 90 pitches in AAA one week from saturday. This will have him on pace for Thursday June 2nd. Which means the yankees only have 3 starts (2 in tomorrow's DHer) left in doubt until Hughes ascends to the proper spot in the rotation. If he comes back lights out, we are gonna be a well oiled machine. NICE!!
  7. and that wont be much of an upgrade if you deal off one of your most productive hitters.
  8. The NL is a joke. The better teams are in the AL. Look at interleague. 137-115 in favor of the AL and that is the closest it has been in years. The AL continually wipes the floor with the NL every single yr yet some people have trouble agreeing that it is a different and inferior league.
  9. That would certainly get it done IMO. Lars is a highly regarded prospect. WMP may not be what they are looking for since they already have a guy of his ilk in Nelson Cruz. But they would love either Lester or Bowden. I think that could get it done. But that also takes away your biggest power prospect and one of your troika of solid pitchers close to the show. Thats a big haul. But, why do you say that the sox need a hitter? Their hitting is slumping right now, but if you dont improve that pitching, you'll need much more hitting. Case in point, when Gabbard reverts to the 5+ERA guy that his performance dictates, when Wakefield is tossing up a 6ERA and Tavarez is tossing up an 8+ ERA, will one guy really make all the difference? And 1b and 3b are 2 spots in the lineup that have been just fine.
  10. I hear the storm is 6 miles away in the loss column.
  11. I think the chumps on the yankees still exist, and I wouldnt be terribly surprised if they went into a hole. But as I said before, I was upset with the yankees because they would have stretches of having parts of their game look solid while other parts failed. Solid offense with s***** pitching. Solid pitching with s***** offense. Solid pitching and offense, s***** bullpen. And worst of all, aside from ARod, no clutch hitters and nobody seemed to be healthy. Over the recent stretch, the pen has improved, so the leads have been kept. Over the recent stretch, the offense has still sputtered, but we have been getting the hits with RISP. And most importantly, 4 out of every 5 starters seem to be keeping us in the game. Imagine what could happen if the slumping players like Damon, Abreu, and Cano actually turn it on. The yankees have room for improvement, IMO and so long as their pitching doesnt take a hit, should be able to sustain a certain amount of success. Now, I dont expect them to continue playing .700 ball, but you see my point. With the sox, their offense certainly could improve. No clutch hits, and surprisingly, absolutely no power. Last night you had what, 1 EBH? At the same time, I think Francona has killed your offense by putting players in spots where they wont succeed. Youk in the 5 hole is a joke. He's a 2 hitter and doesnt have enough power to make people pitch to Ortiz and Manny. This is causing Manny to chase pitches and the line continues from there. Your offense has the capability to rebound, so in that respect, Theo is correct. But the most stabilizing force on your team over your 50 game run (when you were 35-15) was your rotation. And that is no longer the case. You have Beckett, who has pitched okay over the last month and a half (4.1ERA) and DiceK who has been hot/cold. Now if you had both of those guys in a rotation with an effective Schilling and a hot Wakefield, then they would be wonderful. But when you lean on them to be the only consistent source of stability, panic will ensue. Like I have said multiple times, if you dont upgrade your rotation, that back end will be a killer. And if Schilling returns as an inconsistent shell of himself, just like when he went on the DL, he wont be helping. Wakefield has been more cold than hot, Tavarez has been awful, and Gabbard has been lucky sans his last start (you cannot expect to get by on a 1.5 WHIP for too long without getting burned). SO, even though you may not think it, I think the yankees are more equipped right now to hang in this race. Now you have the lead, no doubt, and you earned it while we slogged through our doldrums. But your rotation as constitued will continue to put serious strain on your offense and pen, a strain that will eventually lead to meltdown. Because when you have a 2 man rotation with 3 pieces of s*** at the end, you absolutely need them to win all of their starts, and unless you have Spahn and Koufax on the hill, that aint happening.
  12. oh, btw, you guys are now tied with the Guardians in the loss column. Hence, the yankees are just as far out of the WC as they are out of the East.
  13. have a good one guys. Time for bed. I get to go to bed quasi happy. Unfortunately, the yankees should have won today and that would have made me really happy, but I'll take it. G'night.
  14. the Cocofro is funny lookin.
  15. cmon fat f***, the plate is this way ----->
  16. BTW, Snyder's curve is very good.
  17. well, he has had his moments where he has had good lift. The Fenway factor means that even on the odd occasion that he gets good lift, he still might not hit it out due to the very deep RCF fence thus limiting him further.
  18. lift is provided by your front shoulder. If your front shoulder is injured, you wont have any lift. Hence the entire swing is top hand and top handed swings create top spin liners and grounders.
  19. not better than most in his price/commitment range.
  20. he was a guy with 20-30 homer potential. But you put him in Fenway and then sap his lead shoulder of strength and voila, you have a crappy average, crappy power guy whose best asset is that he will take tons of pitches and get his share of called strike 3's and walks.
  21. when he's not hitting? You mean, when he is breathing, right? Cause he isnt hitting.
