  1. you're talkin bout injuries when DL warriors Beckett and DiceK are in your rotation. And hell, lately Wakey too.
  2. sounds like Bostons offer isnt the best on the table per rotoworld.
  3. Its funny that he actually agreed to a deal that has less AAV (23 vs 23.3) even though he has a buyout that he will likely use if he is as dominant as we all hope he is. And they never actually bid against themselves, all they did was tack on another yr, a yr that may not matter depending on how CC does and if he opts out. That being said, getting CC was an absolute must. We lose out on Johan because of the rooks that would have needed to go in the other direction, we could not lose out on CC. Now we have him. And we havent had a guy like him in a long time. Young, left handed, durable, power pitcher, ace, etc.
  4. so my best friends cousins uncle twice removed and thrice incarcerated said that he has it on good info from Theo Epstein's gay lover's youngest brother that Mark Teixeira is holding out for 8 yrs 160mil and a private shitter in the monster.
  5. A mitochondrial disorder is a dysfunction of the ATP producing mitochondria in the body. ATP is the energy source on which our body uses on a chemical level to generate energy. A channelopathy is a dysfunction with the ion channel leading to inadequate and inefficient transmission of an electrical charge through the muscle. Thats about the extent that I know to be honest with you. Geneticists, Pathologists and cell biologists would know it better since it is truly on a biochemical level
  6. Wow, I actually agree with Gom on this one. The Yankees will have an immense amount of money to spend in the new stadium. And more money flows in when the team is on top. Why not spend some of the money you have to potentially make more money in the future. I understand that there is a big picture argument, but at the same time it isnt the yankee's fault that they are such a successful franchise both on and off the field.
  7. I agree. In a playoff scenario where Pettitte wouldnt even pitch, having Manny vs Cameron is a no brainer. The question is, in a yr when there are 3 true blue contenders in the division, would you rather have one spot in the order filled with a .800OPS hitter and a 200IP pitcher or with a .900OPS hitter and a kid who has shown flashes of brilliance but also gets hurt a lot. The true question comes down to, is a 200IP pitcher worth 100 points in OPS?
  8. Over the last 3 seasons, CC has been a major ace. Nobody can dispute that. Look at these numbers 686.2IP 643H 231ER 632K 142BB 1.14WHIP 3.03ERA .247BAA 4.5K/BB 8.3K/9IP. The only guy who goes beyond that is Santana. Peavy has better WHIP and K numbers but not innings (and he's in the best pitchers park and in the NLW). The rest dont match up.
  9. I dont think Damon can last a full season in CF. I am not even sure he can last a full season out in LF. Also, I am a Gardner believer, but one thing I learned last yr is that you cannot just give a position to a player. Giving the spot to Gardner to start the yr is a great way to set yourself up to fail. I think getting a guy like Cameron is a great way to phase a player in. He's older, but a great defender who can give the kids some tips on how to play the position. And Gardner needs that. If you read any of the SRs on him from PP, his routes are considered to be poor and he makes up for it with speed. Therefore, he isnt the best CFer you will find. Also, Cameron brings something that we hope Gardner will develop. The ability to work the pitcher. I think, one day, Gardner could be a .350+ OBP guy who will drive pitchers batty. And if he wins an in season comp and proves he can be that guy, then great. Until then, he needs to prove he can translate that eye to the bigs as well as prove he can make more contact. And as for Melky, we have seen him go from potential AS CFer to a total regression to the worst OFer in yankee history. I'd take my chances with Cameron and Gardner in CF a whole lot more than I would Melky and Gardner. The LAST thing we want to do is give the job to Gardner, see both he and Melkman struggle and then have to rush AJax. Cause if they spoil his future, then it may be awhile before we get another impact position player from our farm
  10. He had a lot more value the last time, when the yankees did truly put him on the back burner in pursuit of other options. This time, his worth is dwindling and he doesnt fit the need of the team anymore. We needed an ace, Pettitte is at best a #3 and if his recent performance is anything he might not be any more than a #4.
  11. There was a point made on EEI that made a lot of sense. Their point was that the yankees really dont want to get locked into a 1b for the long term. This is due to the likelihood that Posada, Jeter and ARod will all occupy the position at some point in the next 8 yrs and locking the position down takes away some of the roster flexibility. Instead of locking up a 1b for the next 8 yrs, it may be more feasible to get a short term boost to the offense (like Manny for 3 yrs) then either develop or sign a power hitting middle infielder, catcher or third baseman.
  12. That argument doesnt hold much water. His performance doesnt seem to change, but his durability sure does.
  13. his WHIP is always high, that much is true. He does get a fair amount of groundballs and seems to always throw 200IP. That being said, Andy got an offer from NY that was fair for his age and level of performance. He also said that all he wanted was a 1 yr deal and either the yankees or retirement. This tarnishes his reputation IMO.
  14. This is why you dont use an 8 yr period to prove durability for a pitcher. Especially a guy like Sheets who was an absolute bulldog for his first 4 yrs in the league (206IP per yr) and who has been lame for the past 4 yrs (150IP). And when we talk about Burnett, he missed an entire yr and a half with TJ, something that doesnt routinely need to be repeated. And in contrast to Sheets, whose IP per yr has plummeted over the last 4 yrs, Burnett's have risen (183IP per yr over the last 4 yrs). I am not saying he is a durable warrior by any stretch of the imagination. Just that Sheets has had a string of shoulder issues and forearm issues that havent gone away and is currently injured. Burnett has missed a total of 45 days in his career with shoulder issues. But has missed a massive amount of time with elbow problems, last in early 2007. my post wasnt a money argument, but if you want to get into that, a supposed mid market team in the Braves offered pretty much the same amount of money. They set the market. That being said, the money is ridiculous, but we can afford it. And btw, the monetary differential between the yankees and the rest of baseball is about to explode as we move into the new park. Trying to cry poor when your team is consistently in the 2-4 slot doesnt work either. If there were a cap in the 95 mil range, then no team would stay playoff caliber for long, something that our 2 teams have done for quite some time now. This wasnt a money argument and you could write a book about the inequities in today's baseball market. But as long as they operate within the rules, you can't do anything about it. And as long as the owners make good money and profit from the yankees success (revenue sharing), they wont insititute anything more stringent. My point was that Burnett, when healthy is an ace, and it is very difficult to downplay his performance when he takes the bump. I agree with anyone who says he's fragile. But some people like to blow his fragility out of proportion.
  15. not really. If Varitek gets someone to bite on a 3 yr deal, he's gone. And then you'll have to fork over some serious prospects in order to land Salty or Teagarden. And I dont see Theo paying more than the worth coming back when the player returing to Boston is not even close to a proven commodity.
  16. IF THEO DINT SHANK PAPI IN DA WRIST AND IF HE DIDNT HIT LOWELL IN DA HIP WITH A TIREIRON WE"D BE CAMPS!!
  17. I dont see the sox offering 200 mil. That isnt their MO. 6yrs 150mil sounds like the offer they will make
  18. http://www.nypost.com/seven/12142008/sports/yankees/yanks_to_go_after_manny__teixeira_144124.htm Sounds like Cashman isnt about to put the checkbook away
  19. http://www.nypost.com/seven/12142008/sports/yankees/cc_arrives_tomorrow_144123.htm Looks like the talks expanded to include Igawa. Igawa has 12 mil and 3 yrs left on his deal and Cameron's deal is worth 10 mil over 1 yr. The Brewers are haggling over how much the yankees need to include in the deal since they will be taking on the bulk of the money. But it sounds like it will get done soon, maybe tomorrow.
  20. I dont think we need another marquee middle of the order hitter. We just need to fill that CF hole with a guy like Cameron who will put up a .800 or so OPS and we'll have a lineup with all 9 players at .800+ OPS if healthy. That is a good lineup.
  21. Largely because the injury bug hit us hard. Losing 1 and 1a in your rotation will do that to you. If both the yankees and sox were healthy, fully healthy, this past yr it would have been a close race to the finish, and the rays would have finished 3rd. I highly doubt that that Rays team would have beaten us both out if the yankees had Wang for the whole yr, Joba in the rotation without the arm issues, Hughes without the fracture rib, Posada behind the dish, ARod for the whole yr, and Matsui at DH. I also doubt that the Rays beat out the sox without a full yr from Schilling, Lowell, Papi, Beckett, and Drew. correction: Posada WASNT there last yr. It isnt just the head to head, though. It is all about how we do vs the rest of the league. Remember, our rotation was in the shithole with guys like Rasner and Ponson starting games vs you guys and we still split the season series 9-9. It is about how we do vs the rest of the east, the central, the west, interleague etc. The yankee money advantage will help significantly if we spend it wisely. I think investing in pitching, especially younger, high power, high end pitching is a good idea. In yrs past, we were going for the 40+ age club as well as signing contact pitchers with sketchy health issues. At least the guys we are going for nowadays will blow you away if they are healthy. Nothing like hearing Pavano is coming back and then watching him throw 91mph sinkers down the middle all game long. When AJ or CC are pitching, we'll be seeing some serious cheese. The sox won the big trophy 2 of the last 4 yrs. That is what I want. I saw my team win 4 in 5 yrs and make the WS 6 of 8 yrs. It starts with making the playoffs and then navigating from there. And since 94, we have only missed the playoffs once. I have a feeling we'll be back in 09. It isnt impressive in the way they got them. I agree. What will be impressive is when you come in to the Bronx for a 4 game series and have no Rasner's or Ponson's to give you an easy game. Imagine coming to NY for a 4 game and seeing CC, Wang, Burnett and Joba in 4 straight. The yankees do spend more on their players, that much is true. But lets not paint the sox as being a poor team, cmon now. Their 2004 team had only one home grown starter on it. They were a team of mercs who needed the ultimate merc to put them over the top. That being said, we do spend a lot and in recent yrs, that spending has been more bad than good. But I think we are following the sox blueprint for once. Develop the farm system, grab power pitchers capable of going deep into games and build a moneyball style offense with guys who grind ABs. Consider this the shot over the bow. The yankees are coming for the east title.
  22. We agree on something! Until then, your Cashman bashing days are over
