  1. Mo has much more of a smooth delivery and he has an uncanny track record of durability. Paps, OTOH, is a high effort delivery pitcher who subluxed his shoulder throwing a pitch. Think about that.
  2. Per Peter Abraham, the Yankees will use Phil Coke as their long reliever this yr. This was in doubt prior to the Pettitte signing as Coke was considered to be a possible candidate for the #5 starting slot and would have been much needed depth if the yankees once again broke camp with two young kids in the rotation. But with Pettitte rounding out the impressive 5 man rotation and Hughes and Kennedy waiting in the wings in AAA, Coke's need as a starter became minimal. So he will assume the long man duties. He may get a few spot starts as well and will certainly enhance the utility of the other lefty in the pen, as Marte will likely be able to focus completely on the setup task.
  3. ooh, missed that part. Here's to hoping for a full recovery
  4. I wouldnt put it past them. But I dont think paps makes it to FA unscathed. He is a high velocity, high effort kind of guy. I dont expect him to be healthy like Mo has been yr in and yr out
  5. once we resigned Pettitte, this story became moot
  6. Benzinger was a 4th round pick in 81 who burst on the scene when he was 24 in AAA, hitting .323 and 11 homers in half a season. He was supposed to be the sox 1b for yrs to come. Until he turned out to be more of a backup and never lived up to the hype
  7. Disc surgery is a crap shoot. The mantra is 50% get better, 50% either stay the same or get worse. There are newer surgeries that are proving promising, but they arent risk free either. That being said, someone who can function with their back problems should not go under the knife IMO. Especially someone who relies on their body being in peak condition to perform. Because if the surgery goes wrong, then your livelihood is done.
  8. if we win the title, it will be a welcome embarassment there example
  9. CC looks like he's a bit slimmer than he looked in the Brewers uni. Maybe its just me. Bruney looks like he lost 50 pounds from 07. And Joba looks like he's in good shape too.
  10. Ortiz said today that he'd suspend juicers for one yr. But he also said that he doesnt know if he ever juiced. Should he get suspended for half a yr because he might have juiced?
  11. The quote said that we have trouble with age. Our rotation's age is under 30 while the sox is over. very simple. We got through a 3rd place season with that 40 yr old nothing baller who is now retired. We added 2 ace level performers in their prime. And Colon isnt the best comp. He threw 200+ innings consistently until he was 34. We have CC under wraps through his yr 34 season. Actually, we have a 5 man rotation that is better than almost anyone's and we have guys like Hughes, Coke, Aceves, Kennedy, Kontos, Brackman, Betances, McCallister, WDR, Bleich etc waiting in the wings Aceves made the bigs last yr and was solid. Cant say that about Hansack or Zink. Priceless, lol..... We DFAd him and then dealt him to Milwaukee. Remember? Phil Hughes is better than anything you have in your farm system, Buchholz included. Thing is, we dont need to rely on him this yr, like you guys likely will with Buch
  12. lets just remember that you are a lawyer in a lawless part of the world. Then lets consider who's the moron.
  13. JD Drew is encouraged that he can play through pain??? http://www.majhost.com/gallery/DarkRonin03/Boardz/fat_dance.gif
  14. AJ Burnett was an ace last yr in the ALE. Varitek was one of the worst catchers in baseball.
  15. now we are equating Joba to Steve Howe. Really? Really? Cmon now.
  16. Posada is actually catching all of the bullpens and is accelerating his throwing program. He's had no hiccups and is expected to be catching full speed in games by mid spring training. He has also been hitting for about a month and says that his bat is back to where it should be in mid February. So yes, Posada will be catching unless something unforseen occurs.
  17. So now the sox are guaranteed to have a hole at catcher. Sweet.
  18. I missed that quote. LOL. Lets see. Avg age of staff Yankees- 29.4 Red Sox- 30.6 with Penny Red Sox- 33 with Smoltz In terms of holes, well, right now you are relying on a 42 yr old knuckleballer and a spot that is being filled with 2 shoulder injured players, one also being 42 in Smoltz and Penny. And if we are arguing minor league pitching depth, it isnt even remotely close. Kris Johnson would have trouble making our AA team let alone being a good possible MLBer. Our minor league pitching is absolutely loaded. What we lack is depth on the position player side, aside from a select few upper eschelon prospects.
  19. Very true. His contact ability is poor. Its not Adam Dunn poor, but its pretty high. One thing that people really arent getting though is how ridiculously unlucky he was last yr. When you typically sit around .250 in BA and then have a BABIP season of .249 and put up a dismal BA of .219, you can kinda expect a rebound.
  20. here he'd consume the English with fireballs from his eyes and bolts of lightning from his arse
