  1. Update: 6/13/2009 Gary Sanchez has one suitor at this point, the New York Yankees. He is a 16 yr old kid with a strong, powerful frame and great tools. He is a plus to plus plus power hitter who has just annihiliated balls in workout sessions. Apparently, his power displays are things of beauty. What sets him apart, though, is his advanced defensive game at catcher as a 16yr old. He has shown agile feet in workouts and has advanced mechanics in the throwing game from behind the plate. He is considered the second best IFA available to Miguel Sano. The Angels were in on Sanchez, but they just fired their dominican coordinator and have been out of the negotations for some time. Sanchez is expected to sign for over 2 million dollars. Miguel Sano is coming to the Yankee complex on Thurday. He is considered to be close to signing with Pittsburgh, although his agent says nothing is finalized (obviously, because that would be a violation). At the same time, his agent admits that the yankees have been in on him since the beginning and may end up outbidding the pirates depending on what they see. Sano is a 6'3" SS who is very quick, has good hands and is an incredible hitter. He is the consensus #1 prospect coming out of this international class. His detractors say he's older than 16 and that he uses roids, although an investigation of his age came back clean. Sounds like Sanchez is in the bag. They are also in on a few others, but these are the big guys. If they nab both, then its a big coup for them
  2. we needed luck to be on our side after this past series with Boston.
  3. Justin Milo, the CFer from Vermont signed. He was an interesting signability case. He is a 5'8" speedster with marginal bat handling skills who had another yr of eligibility. Problem being, he's the leading returning scorer for the Catamount Hockey team which went to the Frozen Four AND the university is dropping its baseball program. So, the only way he would play baseball is to sign. He did, but with the caveat that he gets to play hockey with UVM. Gavin Brooks, LHP from UCLA signed. He's a tall 6'4" lefty represented by Boras, who was a big time prospect in 2006 prior to injuring his shoulder (was expected to be 1st or 2nd round talent). He went to UCLA where he was a weekend starter last yr, but Gerrit Cole's arrival in LA moved Brooks to closer and he did well out there. He throws low 90s with a plus breaking ball and solid command from the left hand side. There were questions about his health and durability, which led to his fall into the 9th round.
  4. it was the right decision. ARod popped up a can of corn.
  5. He always does. The guy hustles 100% of the time. Unreal how he went from being a luxury to being the center of our offense and an example for others to follow in 2 months.
  6. So, Girardi lets Gardner hit vs KRod with Damon on the bench. Then, he pinch hits for our second best OPS+ hitter on the team with Damon 2 batters later? What the f***? It worked out due to the drop, but that is a ridiculous decision.
  7. Shaeffer Hall, the lefty starter for Kansas has signed. He throws high 80s with a great changeup and impeccable control. He should slot into the rotation for the Staten Island Yankees this upcoming season
  8. Michael Bulgary, a LHP out of Cal Berkely has signed with Boston. He a big framed guy and throws left handed, so thats good. I will try to get more on his stuff later. Chris McGinness is a college JR from the citadel. He's a big, strong 1b with some power projection, who looks like filler material, although if he fulfills his power, he could be something more
  9. Miles Head was another tough sign who has inked on with Boston. The HS 3b from Georgia has a world of power already and projects to be a plus power kind of guy from the getgo. He was told prior to the draft that he would get what he wanted financially, but that he would not be selected in a higher round due to other needs. http://www.thecitizensports.com/node/521
  10. My catcher sucks right now, but will be a good pick overall. Posada will offer some now production while Soto figures it out. When he does, Posada will serve as my DH. Swisher is playing well in pinstripes, he's young and he'll get the benefit of the homerdome for the next few yrs. At such a premium position, how did Posada fall that far down the board?
  11. Brandon Jacobs reportedly has agreed to second round compensation and will forgo his football career at Auburn, for now. He is a 6'2 200+ pound house who was set to be greyshirted as a RB this yr. He is a true 5 tool talent, although his 60 times wouldnt tell you so. He runs a 4.4 second 40 yd dash, but he ran over 7 seconds in the 60. I would still expect him to have a lot of speed based on the fact that he was a division 1 recruit as a RB in the SEC. Regardless, he has a ton of power potential and showcases an above average arm. His bat is raw as most college kids are, but he is an athlete who can patrol CF in the future and could really hit for a lot of power if he gets the right coaching. Good sign.

I will leave SRs on the guys who sign
  13. Ben Watkins signed. He's a right handed pitcher who fared well at the U of Pitt. He's really not a prospect and is more organizational filler material
  14. the entire red sox team should be willing to give Girardi a reacharound tonight.
  15. tonight. And any night vs Boston we need him to. A game vs Boston is worth 2 games in the standings.
  16. how is this cashman's fault? He did EVERYTHING you wanted this offseason.
  17. Hughes starting game 2 for us is a win and Mariano in the 8th tonight is a win. If Girardi managed by actually watching the game and caring about each game vs Boston, then we might have left town with 2 wins, instead of another sweep.
  18. Mariano had 2 nights off. The pressure was on, the sox were charging and Girardi just gave the game away. That is the ONE thing I liked about Torre. When you needed a win, he put his best guys out there. The big thing I didnt like about Torre, was that he put his best guys out there all the damn time and never developed the other guys in the pen, which led to injuries to the setup guys and Mo. Now, Girardi just lets whomever take the high leverage innings as if anyone is qualified to pitch at all times. The fact that he had Veras up in the 9th proves that.
  19. they cost us a run, it would be tied. Girardi cost us the game
  20. He dominated you guys for 7 innings, took the ball in the 8th at around 110 pitches and ran out of gas.
  21. that one run was huge. Umps + Girardi = yankee loss.
  22. Tex doesnt hit Paps and ARod took him deep last yr
