  1. And before New Year's. I'm pretty impressed
  2. Regardless, I am done with you. I'll let this die for now. But dont think your act of cowardice will be forgotten
  3. http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2009/8/12/985970/why-javier-vazquez-is-baseballs Sorry, I should have said 3.86 or less FIP
  4. I am glad that you have stepped up your peacekeeping efforts. This just further reinforces my point. On to Bay. I think Bay will produce offensively through the next few seasons. He will probably start the slow trail by season 3, but overall be a productive offensive force. His issue, IMO, is his ability to play the field, which makes the Mets just the dumbest landing spot for the guy. He could easily have performed when he has the option of the DH. But I have a feeling his productivity and his health will wane from being mandated to the field more than anything else.
  5. Pettitte was the only one to not reach 200IP, since he only threw 194IP.
  6. Did I ever say that I am expecting Vazquez to have an ERA under 3? No, but he gives innings and strikes out a ton of batters.
  7. Did Dipre say he was working hard to keep the place peaceful? Really? This coming from the guy who starts fights with EVERYONE? Think about the events of a few weeks ago when you found out that most people do not like your s*** and you abruptly left, only to find that you weren't missed and we actually got along better in your absence? Cmon now. Dojji called you out on minimizing Jason Bay's worth. He's right. You are trying to justify it by saying he's a health risk, which he very well may be. But thus far, he's produced as an elite level hitter.
  8. It all depends. Going the HS route could leave you coming up snake eyes frequently. But I have a feeling a few of those guys shoot up the charts. I love the Madison Younginer signing from a Sox perspective. I think he's gonna be a special arm
  9. He's a marginal upgrade over the suck that was out there last yr. Plus, if you are trying to sell the sox switch of Bay for Cameron based on defense in LF at Fenway, how can you possibly consider a defensive downgrade at SS an upgrade?
  10. It is an upgrade, but it isnt a significant one. Scutaro has posted 3 .700+OPS seasons and only one .750+OPS season. Plus, he's a downgrade defensively from AGon and he cost you guys a second rounder. His mild upgrade doesnt come close to replacing the OPS of Bay.
  11. Not acknowledging that Vazquez is an upgrade to the rotation is flat out stupid
  12. The overall impact of this off-season for Boston is difficult to assess. I think they get more consistent with Lackey taking the bump 30 times assuming he is healthy. But the offensive downgrade is important to keep in mind, especially if Lowell is given away like he nearly was. That means that not only do you lose 36 homers and 119RBI, but you also lose a guy who hit around .300 with close to 20 homers. And both positions get replaced with worse players. The sox pen also takes a hit losing Wagner and Saito, since both put in well above replacement performance for the sox. So overall, they have the potential to be very good. And at the very worst, I think they are good enough for playoff contention. I think losing some of the guys they are in the process of losing, though, makes their potential high end performance lower than they were prior to this offseason. So overall, less potential upside, but more consistency and a higher potential downside.
  13. Unquestionably, there is an improvement for the other 81 games. But when defense is the only improvement and the point is moot for half the games, the point rings a bit hollow.
  14. Cameron's defensive prowess will be blunted in LF. That's the issue. The Red Sox LFer does not need to have a lot of range. The Red Sox LFer doesnt even need a strong arm. All he needs to do is be able to read the ball off the wall and make an accurate throw. That's it. I didnt ask about the Yankees. But they have an improvement in CF, a dropoff in LF for now, and a likely wash at the DH position. So their offense stands to be similar.
  15. An answer would be nice
  16. what part of...190+ innings for all 4 starters over the past 2 yrs is invalid statistically?
  17. Dipre. I will ask you this question as basic as I can make it. Are the sox better with Mike Cameron in LF or with Jason Bay in LF?
  18. NY was down 5 games to the sox prior to ARod's return. By the time the Yankees left the sox for dead in the division and eased back, they were 10 games up. And we did that with essentially a 3 man rotation for the last 2 months of the season. Adding in an innings eater like Vazquez will improve that rotation. I agree that the sox improved in the pitching department. But their lineup took away their most powerful bat and replaced him with a guy who actually strikes out more, hits for less power and walks less.
  19. I posted an article around here somewhere that shows exactly why the sox wont do that. If the sox stay under the cap this season, then they will restart the whole cycle. Remember, there is an escalating penalty for being over the cap. If they crack the lux tax, even by $1, then their penalty for 2011 will be 40% instead of 22.5%. That's huge since the sox are expected to be big players in next free agency
  20. Bay brought the thunder to the sox lineup. Especially when they brought in Martinez, who is more of a gap hitter with power who was more built for the #3 spot in the lineup. And Youkilis was a much better hitter so moving him out of the 4 hole didnt make sense. Then the matchups dictated his move to #6 so that Ortiz and Drew werent hitting back to back. He made the sox a lot more dangerous, IMO.
  21. The point is moot. Holliday is the only big name OFer left on the market
