  3. .. From Rotoworld .. David Murphy - BOS The Marlins are reportedly looking at Red Sox prospect David Murphy and Houston's Willy Taveras as they continue to search for center field help. A trade involving Taveras looked like a real possibility a month ago, but he's back playing regularly now and seems unlikely to go. The Red Sox would probably part with Murphy for relief help, but it'd be tough to get him to Florida on waivers. According to MLB.com, the two clubs have discussed Taylor Tankersley. However, he's another player who would never clear waivers and the Marlins aren't going to want to give him up anyway. An offseason deal is a more likely possibility. Source: Marlins.mlb.com Aug ..
  4. Red Sox inquire about J. Lopez http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/baseball/bal-osnotes0802,0,3297581.story?coll=bal-sports-headlines
  5. You're obviously mad at me because of the articles that I posted in the Israeli thread( which is sad ). So if you have a beef with me start a thread in the fights section instead of letting it spew onto the rest of the board .
  6. Back on topic: Offense might be scarier with Lopez then it was with Tek .. Plus he has some playoff experience ..
  7. Upset over not being traded Monday, Javy Lopez has reportedly asked the Orioles to waive him. "I think that what makes more sense at the moment would be to put me on waivers so I can play somewhere else," Lopez said. That assumes that another team would claim Lopez's remaining contract, which seems unlikely given that no one wanted to give up what was surely very little to acquire him via trade.

  17. Found this on another board .. Young Engel Beltre made the jump to professional baseball with the hopes of being the next David Ortiz, or following in the footsteps of Ken Griffey Jr. And it is with the Boston Red Sox that he signed for $600,000, Sunday. The largest contract ever given out by Boston in the Dominican. According to one executive of the Red Sox, Beltre is a five-tool player... "This is a kid who has all the qualities you want in a prospect, and it is the most important signing we have made in this country." (whither Luis Soto?) said the coordinator of international scouting, John Dipuglia. Beltre is 16 and a half years old, and is one of four brothers, each one a faithful fanatic of the Red Sox. "David Ortiz is my favorite player and I am thankful to the Red Sox for the opportunity they have given me," said Beltre minutes after putting his signature on the lucrative contract. Beltre is a centerfielder with an above average arm, plays good defense, and combines hitting for a high average, with power potential. Beltre has played baseball for 7 years and one of his instructors describes him as a complete player. "This boy has all the chance to develop into a future star. He is a hard worker and he will be able to flourish if he stays that way," said Santiago Jimenez, a manager on one of the teams in one of the smaller Dominican leagues. Beltre will be assigned to the minor leagues. But he will begin this year in the Red Sox Dominican complex, and next year he will play in the Dominican Summer League.

  22. .. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Engel Beltre, OF, Dominicana (16) A left-handed hitter with extra-base power. He has a powerful throwing arm and plays great defense in the outfield. There's a rumor that he has a verbal agreement with the Boston Red Sox. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTW, here's the whole list .. 1. Jesus Montero, C, Venezuela (16 years old) He can hit with power to all fields. He has powerful arms, though he will probably end up playing first base. 2. Engel Beltre, OF, Dominicana (16) A left-handed hitter with extra-base power. He has a powerful throwing arm and plays great defense in the outfield. There's a rumor that he has a verbal agreement with the Boston Red Sox. 3. Angel Villalona, 3B, Dominicana (16) A five-tool player (hits for average, hits for power, has speed, fields well and has a good arm). Villalona is 6-foot-2 and weighs 200 pounds. 4. Moises Tejeda, SS, Dominicana (16) He could be the most athletic of them all. He's a stunning pitcher, a great runner and a good hitter. 5. Larry Suarez, RHP, Venezuela (17) A tall pitcher (6-3) with an explosive fastball. The right-hander hasn't had a big show this year. He is believed to have a preliminary agreement with the Chicago Cubs. 6. Euclides Viloria, LHP, Venezuela (16) Sort of like Johan Santana but with less power. Viloria has a great combination of pitches, with a curveball and a changeup, and his fastball varies between 88 and 91 mph. 7. Esmeily Gonzalez, SS, Dominicana (16) A great player who can hit from both sides of the plate. Because of his size, good defense and powerful arm, he's compared to Rafael Furcal. 8. Carlos Triunfel, SS, Dominicana (16) Somewhat similar to Miguel Tejada when he was signed. He has great power and knows how to hit. Scouts say "he bounces the ball off the bat." 9. Balbino Fuenmayor, 3B, Venezuela (16) An athlete. He's 6-3, has soft hands, but above all things is a great hitter. He has a very good temperament and a willingness to learn. 10. Jason Smit, SS, Australia (16) Smit is a very disciplined and intelligent player. He's got unlimited power but doesn't fan bad pitches and defensively makes all the ordinary plays. 11. Francisco Pena, C, Dominicana (16) The son of ex-catcher Tony Pena is considered a great prospect because of his bat. There are rumors that he has shortened his list of favorite teams to the Yankees, Mets and Braves. Other prospects: Dominicana (Freddy Galvis, SS; Ramon Mota, OF; Jose Toussaint, SS; Moises Montero) and Venezuela (Font Wilmont, RHP; Ricardo Ferrer, RHP; Danny Salazar, RHP; Joel Romero, RHP; Fabian Jedron, LHP).
