  1. I don't see them making a move before Sunday so expect sexy lips to be the one out there for the boys. If they do however I would expect it to be Hansack.
  2. Yeah I want another 5 IP with a 4.76 ERA pitcher (for more see my Is Lester . . . post). He needs to stay in the minors until he shows he is completely cancer free and that he can at least dominate AAA. Replacing Tavares with a pitcher who can't break the top 100 in the AL is not the answer (and neither is Clemens).
  3. First off Pedro was a bigger risk then Schilling is as far as injury Second - If Schilling goes 16-7 with a 4.00 ERA, what do you think he will bring on the open market? 15 mil? 16 mil? Third - 38 videos will have no bearing on staying with the Sox. Expect Schilling to be offered by some team 16 mil a year with an option for a third year and expect the Sox to say good bye.
  4. Schilling will never go to the Yankees. As for the money, if you listened to what he said right after they turned down the one year extension for 13 million, the home town discount is gone. Schilling will go FA, he will get a 2 or maybe even a 3 year deal (probably 2 with an option year) and I'm willing to bet that the deal will not be met by the Sox. My prediction is to enjoy him this year because next year he will be playing somewhere else.
  5. A couple of million? Try 4 million per year more and a two year contract, as for what the 13 million, need I remind you of Meche?
  6. Finally the last of the soap opera has decided to bless us with his presence, now lets get down to business and get ready to kick some a**.
  7. Lowell, Tavarez and Hansen would be ok. Delcarmen would be off limits, because unlike Hansen he has shown that he can do it at the big level. I personally think Hansen will never be consistent in the bigs.
  8. The only thing this will do is change the incentives in J.D.'s contracts and maybe lower the price. Will be interesting to see how this plays out over the next few days.
  9. True it will drag his numbers down, but last year he was 8th in the Majors for first basemen. Can he sustain that? Plus the numbers I used for Pedroia even though it is the top 30 average is almost Loretta type numbers, is he better than Loretta? In a previous post I used just last years averages and it was only slightly better 171 vs 162 or 3 games. Will look at zips and see how that compares to other projections
  10. I have been looking at Bill James win shares this offseason to see if we could use this tool to project how the Sox will look in 2007. My latest post about this shows that we now have a team that will need some career years to get to a 95 win season no matter who we get as a closer. So the question is whether win shares present a good tool for projections or should we use other tools to try and get a feel for our projections. What do you think? Leave me a note at my post and I will try to get a feel on our team. As a caveat, I am looking harder at this calculations because it looks to me like it really punishes your pitching. When your high in closers win shares are 17, 16 and 18 (atta boy P-bot) that appears to me to down grade their importance.
  11. You've got that right, Youkilis needs to be at first because you know Lugo is going to be throwing some right at the seats.
  12. Boras wants to blow the system up. He knows that the Sox are not going to give him 15 mil a year. He has already laid the ground work in Japan for this to be the Red Sox and MLB's fault and not Matsuzaka's. Boras sees Dice K as the Japanese Curt Flood. This deal will not happen.
  13. If they can get him, I say get him.
  14. Manny stays, the Cubs will continue to lose, look for Soriano playing at homer friendly Wrigley hit over 60 HR's next year. Yea Boy.
  15. Initially I was against this but depending on the price (8 to 9 mil ) have came around and think this could be a very good signing.
  16. I think this would be a mistake. I think most of the Japenese infielders have shown they are not ready for prime time in the bigs.
  17. No, do not get him, do not get him.
  18. Myself I take glove over the bat at this position and Gonzo will hit in the 270 area so I say sign him for 3 at 12 - 14 mil.
  19. Not sure where you got your figures, but against the Yankees and Toronto he went 3 and 4 with a 7.53 ERA in 9 games. Not great at all but not an 11+ ERA against these teams. He also had 4 quality starts in those 9 games so he was hit or miss. I believe he will be a lot better next year against these two teams.
  20. Props to Papi and to Beckett. In Josh's last 5 games (including last nights), 2 and 2 with a sterling 2.91 ERA. That is the guy the Sox thought they were getting.
