  1. Absolutely, I think Kershaw will be Cy Young candidate as early as 2011. Shapiro should lose his job if he trades Martinez without getting something of comparable upside to Kershaw. Loney ain't it.
  2. I really don't think that Youkilis is a viable long term solution at 3B anymore. He is a much, much better defensive 1B.
  3. Is there some viability to the concern of switching leagues? I like AG but I am very, very hesitant to give up the farm for him.
  4. James McDonald? He of the 5.17 ERA? I don't think that's enough, middle relievers are too inconsistent and a high A lottery ticket won't be enough to seal the deal. Loney is a fantastic player, one who I think is criminally underrated (and not just because I drafted him for AFL) but there's a rather large difference in his value and Martinez's.
  5. So when the Yankees lose 6 of 9 (and it will happen at some point before the end of the year) I'm going to make a "What is the Yankees' biggest waiver wire need?"
  6. Like Adrian Gonzalez, he of the 5 HR and .749 OPS since June 1?
  7. I would appreciate it if someone like me made the pessimistic Sox threads, coming from you it's a little smarmy and ****y. That being said, the answer is a corner infielder bat and DL Lowell forever.
  8. They can't acquire Martinez without dealing one of their young pitchers, that's the point. I don't think they make this deal, but if it's even on the table the Sox won't be able to match it, which was the entire point of my post. (FTR - I'm really enjoying this discussion, it's been civil and well written)
  9. http://waiversharks.com/ramble-and-gamble/files/2008/04/clay-buchholz.jpg
  10. I'm not advocating Reynolds per se but we do have a need at 3rd that needs to be filled by someone.
  11. Yes? Martin has been an offensive disappointment. Martinez and Martin is vastly better than Loney and Martin, and I don't think you lose anything going from Kershaw to Lee. I'd be very careful calling Kershaw an ace right now - I love the guy and think he can be absolutely dominant, but he's not past the injury nexus and he has been handled with kid gloves so far. Lee for Kershaw right now could be a fair swap and if the Dodgers net Martinez, they're the clear favorites in the NL even if the Phillies land Halladay (which I still think they will).
  12. It'd be nice to have someone who could, you know, hit homeruns. And play 3rd base without a walker.
  13. No he's not, but he needs to learn at the big league level. Unfortunately, this season won't allow him to be the #5 and learn on the job as he will be counted on to do a lot more.
  14. If it gets you Martinez and you don't lose anything on the pitching side? Maybe. Dodgers could be in full GFIN mode the next two years with Manny under contract, Lee's deal expires at the end of next season too.
  15. Combine it with the vast differences in the offenses, and that's the other side of the equation.
  16. Why they aren't calling to interview you Dojji, I have no idea.
  17. Because a Loney or Martinez swap isn't going to get it done, they would need to include either Kemp or one of their young pitchers.
  18. I disagree, it's Penny #3 and Buchholz 4 unless Buch implodes. I'll bet Buchholz is the #3 by the end of the year.
  19. Martinez would play first and his bat is better than Loney's right now, plus he could spell Russell Martin and keep him fresh. I wouldn't make that deal if I was LAD either but it's not like it wouldn't be a fit.
  20. Playoff eligibility is September 1 IIRC. Two more starts brings him to the middle of next week. Smoltz wouldn't be starting a playoff game right now, anyway.
  21. So you acknowledge Lester did the same things, got lucky a bit more often, and can't offer an explanation for it. Sound, logical argument indeed. Sounds familiar. You would have preferred him to keep it to himself?
