  1. Ugh, Gonzo should really be playing today.
  2. With his D I'd be stoked if he hit .250.
  3. When he's throwing that curve for strikes, he looks really, really good. Also, now that Tito has started to go to Hansen and MDC later in games, Tavarez has been fairly decent in that mopup role. His last 5 appearances: 9 IP, 2 ER (both on HRs, to Beltran and Cabrera), 6 H, 4BB, 2K. Not terrible by any stretch of the imagination.
  4. He has a higher OPS than Varitek and Crisp, and is gaining on Loretta. Give him that extension now, please.
  5. That deal straight up makes absolutely NO sense.
  6. I'm still in the "Don't Panic" camp...I don't think we need to do something for the sake of doing something. Let's see what Snyder can give us first. This is definitely something worth looking into, though. Perez's 2004 season was crazy good: 2.98 ERA 139 ERA+ 1.15 WHIP He's got good enough stuff to where he can be an effective pitcher. Whether or not he can harness it in the AL is another question.
  7. Again, this is why you can't really look at the 12 game winning streak as evidence of no real problems with this team. It sucks when 40% of your rotation is on the DL, but they need to make adjustments. The FO hasn't done it yet.
  8. I would move Hansen for Smoltz, definitely. I'll pass on Livan, though, an ERA pushing 6 in the NL isn't all that attractive. I'd give Weaver a shot before Livan. That was against AAAA teams. Honestly, other than the Mets, none of the teams they beat were really impressive. Isn't Tampa one of the inferior teams in the AL? I'm not overreacting, I think the Red Sox are easily one of the top 4 teams in the AL. The fact remains, with Wells and Clement on the DL, they only have a 4 man rotation right now, maybe 3.5 with the way Lester has struggled to give them innings. I think Snyder has the ability to help the team out by keeping them competitive in games. I agree with you that there is no need for a full blown panic move, but it's clear that Jason Johnson isn't the answer.
  9. Overall, no. The last three games, well...
  10. Why exactly? I'm not saying he's going to be a savior or anything, but he'd be an improvement over Johnson. You keep saying deal for a starter, deal for a starter, but you don't list any possibilities other than Willis or Smoltz, who would likely require moving Lester. Last i checked, Lester is our #4. So that seems a bit counterproductive. The fact is the pitching market is dreadfully thin right now, but I think the team can be successful with the 4 guys they have at the top (provided Lester can go deeper into games). If Snyder can keep games competitive, or whoever they choose for the 5 slot can do that, then we'd be in good shape. Johnson can't do that. Also, lost in all the pitching discussion is how bad the offense has been so far this series.
  11. I'd honeslty like to see Snyder get another shot. You mean Ty "Babe Ruth" Wiggington?
  12. At least Hansen looked good there. Might swing ATL's opinions.
  13. Nice slider there. Bright side, always a bright side.
  14. You know it's bad when a Julian Tavarez outing is one of the bright spots of a game.
  15. I've missed a lot of the game, but by reading through the thread I can tell this game sucks. I also see people clamoring for a starting pitcher, but outside of Smoltz there really isn't anything to be had at this point. I don't want a headcase like Weaver in Boston. 2 scoreless from Tavarez. Good Julian.
  16. One Red Seat made his case with statistics, all you have said is he "deserves it" and say he said that because he doesn't like Jeter. I dunno, it seems he makes the stronger case.
  17. Whatever results in a Sox win.
  18. JJ gets the job done tonight. Sox win, 8-4.
  19. Good news is we're still 4 up. Bad news is we blew a chance to extend the lead. Just win tonight.
  20. You're honestly joking if you think defense has anything to do with being voted into the ASG. Jeter's name recognition and offensive numbers put him in this year. He, to my eyes, is pretty much an average to below average fielder. Gold Gloves aren't the best way to prove defensive efficieincy either, Alex Gonzalez doesn't have one. You're telling me Jeter is a better fielder than Gonzalez?
  21. Don't discount the Mets just yet. their lineup is very good, and with Glavine/Pedro at the top of the rotation anything can happen. That being said, I think they're the only NL team with a realistic shot at the WS, but too many things have to fall into place for them to win it. Fair enough. I'm not really paying attention to it anyway.
  22. I wasn't really watching, but that's what the ESPN guys were saying. Yeah, I know, they're incompetent. What's the big deal about someone watching their homerun? Is it really that offensive to people?
