  1. How did Holliday strike out on a Mussina fastball? Man, that's atrocious.
  2. Rookie of the Year - Cole Hamels, Phillies (Is he eligible?) Runner Up - Hunter Pence, Astros Manager of the Year - Bud Black, Padres Runner Up - Ned Yost, Brewers
  3. NL: MVP - Jose Reyes, Mets. Probably the ultimate 5-tool guy. Has an outside shot at 100 steals, which is nice considering he's getting on base close to 40% of the time. The Mets are in a bit of a funk right now, but Reyes has been their best player and he's the reason they are still in first. Runner Up - Prince Fielder, Brewers. Off to an amazing start, he is one of the many young players Milwaukee is relying on to bring them back to baseball relevance. From the looks of things, he's on the right track. Cy Young - Jake Peavy, Padres. Best pitcher in the NL easily, probably the entire bigs at this point. Had a rough year last year, but seems to have corrected himself rather nicely. Runner Up - Brad Penny, Dodgers.
  4. Rookie of the Year - Daisuke Matsuzaka. Yeah, the raw numbers aren't there yet. But I think when his luck adjusts and he becomes more acclimated to the hitters in the MLB, he will have tremendous success. Those strikeout numbers are tasty. Runner Up - Hideki Okajima. Call me a homer, but this guy has been the surprise of the season for the Sox so far. He has really solidified a bullpen many called suspect at the start of the year. At least so far, him and Papelbon have made games 7 inning affairs. Manager of the Year - Eric Wedge, Cleveland. Runner Up - Terry Francona, Red Sox.
  5. For the sake of discussion, and the fact the season is over 1/3 of the way done, who are your first and second picks for the major awards (ROY, Cy Young, MVP, Manager of the Year) in each league? AL: MVP - ARod. The season he has had to this point, this award really isn't even in question at this point. If he continues this pace, he'll win it going away. If he cools a bit, he'll still probably win it going away. Runner Up - Vladdy. How do the Angels have that record with this lineup? (Hint - I know it's the pitching). But Vlad is having a truly tremendous season, and it's remarkable what the guy can do pretty much all by himself in that lineup. They get one more reliable bat and they could be the favorites in the AL. Arod's new home next year? Cy Young - Dan Haren. Josh Beckett's been good, but I think the DL stint really hurt him here to this point. Beckett has more wins, but in terms of overall performance Dan Haren has been the best pitcher in baseball not named Jake Peavy. Runner Up - Josh Beckett. Corner turned? I think so. Last week's start aganst the Rox notwithstanding, Beckett has been the bona fide ace for the team with the best record in baseball. He also has 9 wins, and since voters love the win total this could give him a big edge. It'd be a disappointment if he doesn't get 20. Anything less at this point is inexcusable.
  6. Taveras bunt single. Run here.
  7. Calling time when beckett was in his windup. He did it twice tonight, the second time in the rain.
  8. Fogg K's ARod.
  9. Any doubt the Rox roll over for the Yanks this week?
  10. McCann needs to stop that s***. Beckett should throw at him. Set up the double play.
