For the sake of discussion, and the fact the season is over 1/3 of the way done, who are your first and second picks for the major awards (ROY, Cy Young, MVP, Manager of the Year) in each league?
AL:
MVP - ARod. The season he has had to this point, this award really isn't even in question at this point. If he continues this pace, he'll win it going away. If he cools a bit, he'll still probably win it going away.
Runner Up - Vladdy. How do the Angels have that record with this lineup? (Hint - I know it's the pitching). But Vlad is having a truly tremendous season, and it's remarkable what the guy can do pretty much all by himself in that lineup. They get one more reliable bat and they could be the favorites in the AL. Arod's new home next year?
Cy Young - Dan Haren. Josh Beckett's been good, but I think the DL stint really hurt him here to this point. Beckett has more wins, but in terms of overall performance Dan Haren has been the best pitcher in baseball not named Jake Peavy.
Runner Up - Josh Beckett. Corner turned? I think so. Last week's start aganst the Rox notwithstanding, Beckett has been the bona fide ace for the team with the best record in baseball. He also has 9 wins, and since voters love the win total this could give him a big edge. It'd be a disappointment if he doesn't get 20. Anything less at this point is inexcusable.
