1. The Blue Jays are awesome.
2. 9/6 Update:
Team|Predicted Record|Actual Record|Differential Tampa|82-56|85-53|+3 New York|78-62|75-65|-3 Boston|81-59|82-57|+1.5
3. Wakefield v. Harrison
4. Tito loves to go after the win, the first game in a road series.
5. There won't be Yankee fans on this site for months.
6. Article says "potentially" done for the season: Certainly improves Pedroia's MVP chances.
7. Broken wrist, per ESPN Radio.
8. In a word, yes. The Sox have no certain replacements for Varitek. He knows this, Boras knows this. I don't think the Red Sox would care if they had to pay him $1 million per year more as long as he accepts a two year deal.
9. I wouldn't call the Sox's bullpen thinner. Shields has been awful, Arredondo inconsistent, and Speier/Oliver/etc. aren't very good.
10. The Angels have been pretty bad of late, though.
11. Yeah the Redskins offense is pretty bad.
12. Not exactly the biggest accomplishment right now.
13. I think the Yanks taking 2/3 was the best outcome, personally.
14. Beckett v. Millwood
15. ...they play a lot of road games in September and their pitching has never thrown this many innings.
16. On multiple occasions last season, the Sox had the late game on ESPN followed by a west coast trip. I agree that it needs to be addressed but it is a league-wide problem and not centered around the Yankees.
17. Because certain Red Sox fans root for Yankee misery more than Red Sox success.
18. Tampa could very well falter as they are a .500 team on the road and their pitching staff has never thrown this many innings.
19. Besides, the Lowell comp doesn't really hold water because he was coming off a WS MVP season and was looking for a four year deal. Tek will be coming off a struggle of a season, looking for a 2-3 year deal.
20. 2 million = significant pay cut, but a slight raise? Besides, the Sox won't care about paying him $1 million more per year if he accepts a two year deal (which is what the Sox really want)
21. Update:
Player|AVG.|OBP|SLG|OPS|HR|RBI|WS|RC Cano|.269|.305|.411|.716|13|61|10|54 Pedroia|.333|.378|.505|.883|17|76|18|98
EQA: Pedroia - .302 Cano - .246 VORP: Pedroia - 58.5 Cano - 7.2 WARP1/WARP2/WARP3: Pedroia: 8.6/9.1/10.2 Cano: 4.9/5.2/5.8
22. What's the difference between 2/22 and 2/18, especially if there aren't any "certain" replacements in our system? The Sox won't care about $4 mil over two years - they gave that much to Alex Cora
