  1. No it isn't. The Sox were better equipped with MiLB pitching depth to withstand injuries to their key guys. Want proof? They're still playing. Ellsbury isn't superior to anyone, but he sucks less than Melky. Contradict yourself much? No, the Sox got decimated by injuries but had the organizational depth to make the playoffs and win a postseason series. The Yankees didn't. Therefore, the seasons really weren't parallel, were they?
  2. Visiting the woman. Win or lose, I love the balls on this team.
  3. HUGE f***ING BALLS ON THIS TEAM. UP AND DOWN THE f***ING ROSTER.
  4. He does, Francona does, and those people do. PLENTY OF SUCK TO GO AROUND
  5. A big part of my frustration with Ellsbury was the anointing of him as the next coming after 120 good ABs last season. Many on this board were calling him untouchable in the Santana talks. Many felt Crisp was expendable because we had JACOOBEEEEEE What happened? Crisp puts up a better offensive season. Oops. Time and time again I told people to temper their enthusiasm. Oops. I am willing to be patient with the guy, but he deserves a lot of the blame for a s***** offensive season - he was good defensively, though.
  6. No one ever said he will always suck. But, he sucks right now. I also think he needs wholesale changes to his batting approach because he doesn't hit anything hard - it's a grounder or popup 95% of the time.
  7. Yeah I don't think pimping Ellsbury's empty .280 average over Longoria is going to work...
  8. Fact is not trading for Santana was a much more egregious error on the part of the Yankees as they needed Santana a lot more than the Sox. Fact is, if Schilling doesn't get hurt, Buchholz doesn't suck, and Colon doesn't run away and hide, Wakefield doesn't see Game 4. Ellsbury is a far superior player to Melky, although that doesn't mean much.
  9. He sucks
  10. "I love the fans in Boston." "I love the fans in LA...Mannywood!" "I'm for sale to the highest bidder." One of these things is not like the other....one of these things doesn't belong...
  11. http://www.talksox.com/forum/talk-sox-forum/9891-poll-if-red-sox-win-game-6-a.html We had this same argument last year.
  12. Of course everyone knows you have to use Beckett in either Game 6 or 7. My thoughts are that it would be really shortsighted to use your best pitcher only once in this series.
  13. 2003 Game 7 was technically over on October 17.
  14. Lester would be on normal rest.
  15. http://www.talksox.com/forum/360245-post14.html Glad someone else found it.
  16. There was on off day after Game 2, so saying Francona did what he did to save his bullpen doesn;t really hold weight. MDC or Byrd should have started the inning. What's worse is he compounded the mistake by burning Lopez in the 5th and then doing the same to Masterson in the 9th. If you're going to use Papelbon on Pena, do it by starting Papelbon in the 9th. That way he can pitch 9 and 10, and you have Masterson for 11, 12, 13 if needed.
  17. You need to win Game 6 in order for there to be a Game 7. I'd rather take my chances with Lester in game 6 because (a) it's his normal rest ( it gives Beckett one more day of rest and © is the better method of saving the bullpen in case Beckett falters.
  18. Colossal mistake from Tito if true. As good as he was in 2004 and 2007, he's been that bad in 2008. Lucky for him he's got injuries as an excuse.
  19. Ortiz needs to STFU
  20. Is he though? If Dice outpitches Shields again, he's got a banged up Kazmir going against Lester for Game 6. IOW: If the Sox win game 5, they have the advantage in game 6 and then it's all hands on deck for game 7. BUT If Dice beats Kazmir, then we have a Lester/Shields matchup in game 6 which IMO tips the scales in Tampa's favor. I think Maddon is looking to avoid game 7 at all costs, and IMO it's the right move.
