  1. This is bizarre!! http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,354187,00.html
  2. Sean While I can't argue that pitching in the AL is tougher than the NL for the most part (because of the DH), Carpenter's 2005 Cy Young was no fluke. Guys like Beckett, Peavy and Martinez didn't even finish in the top 6 for Cy Young voting that year and had good years.
  3. I believe the next big "battle" for a starter this year will be for the services of Rich Harden. With Devine and Gaudin getting off to good starts this year it shouldn't be long before Mr Bean(e) starts listening to offers for Harden. The Yanks should take the opportunity if Kennedy and Hughes don't come around soon.
  4. I believe he has somewhere in the neighborhood of 11 million ($$) reasons to sit at home and enjoy his family this year.
  5. Was that photo taken a Canseco's party????
  6. Read this article today, thought it was interesting. http://sports.espn.go.com/espnmag/story?id=3356524
  7. Does he not pitch aggressively on Sunday night baseball or against the Red Sox? You're very confusing. Not worth any more effort here.
  8. You are the one that used the term "going right after him", in other words using his best stuff. His curveball is not his "best" stuff, his fastball is his best stuff.
  9. FWIW - I believe it was a curveball that Crede hit. I wouldn't call that going right after him when Joba has the ability to hit triple digits on the gun.
  10. His decision to not return Hughes to the mound was fine. It was the second rain delay of the night. The first resulted in the game starting over 30 minutes late. As for Joba, who else would you pitch in that situation? Farnsworth had already been used, Hawkins and Ohlendorf had already been used, Bruney was not available. Why not pitch to Joe Crede in April - if it was September, same situation and the race for the penant was close, maybe you walk or pitch around him, but not in April. Who is Candy??
  11. Last night was a prime example of why Hank needs to shut up! Joba not available last night and Latroy Hawkins comes in in the 8th and tries to give it away. Until the Yanks have a dominant 8th inning pitcher, leave things as they are. This could be an every night occurance if Joba were removed from the pen.
  12. While Lugo is having a decent year with the bat, at what expense defensively does it cost the Sox. He is currently having the worst fielding percentage of his career with 6 errors already. For a guy who is touted as being one of the best defensively, his upside should be his defense not his offense.
  13. Okay, Hank math: Joba goes into the rotation now, he gets 20-25 starts, he wins 15 of them. Joba comes out of the bullpen, the Yankees have no 8th inning guy, they are unable to hold a lead and drop 20 or more games because of that. Five games in the AL East can mean the difference between playing in October or not. Hank, shut up and let the manager manage and the GM make personnel decisions.
  14. It was a joke in response to the hypothetical situation that was presented
  15. From that point of view I have to agree with ORS. Being part of #27, as was expected in 2004 would not have been as climatic as the improbable comeback the Sox pulled off and the ending of the "curse" for Boston. Schilling was the ace of the 2004 Sox staff and his gutsy performances in the post season were nothing short of amazing considering the injury he suffered. It all fed his ego as promised. On the flip side, he would have also been the ace of the Yankees staff in 2004 had he chosen to sign there instead of Boston. I guess the free Thanksgiving dinner was the deciding factor.
  16. With the problems Papi is having at the plate right now and the way Crisp has been hitting, the idea of having Ellsbury in left and Crisp in center, with Manny at DH could be a big gain for the team. It would enable the Sox the rest Manny a bit early on in the season and get Ellsbury the playing time he needs. They could get Papi some at bats by having him platoon with Casey at 1B while Lowell recovers.
  17. Let's hope you're not still chewing your nails!!
  18. Using some of the mentality that has been displayed in this discussion we should also acknowledge that Mike Wallace of 60 minutes has juiced. It must be true because he had an hour long, off-camera discussion with Canseco after their 60 minutes interview just before Juiced was released. Wallace's apparent interest and intrigue with steroids makes him guilty. Case closed!! I never read and will never read Juiced. I will not put the money in Canseco's pocket. For someone who has read the book though, tell me, were any of the following named in Juice: Jason Grimsley David Justice Chuck Knoblauch Jim Parque Benito Santiago Mike Stanton
  19. I imply a different meaning, by Canseco stating ...."I’ve heard him use the phrase “B12 shot” with respect to others." In other words, Roger wasn't talking about his own use of "B12", but the use of others. I believe Clemens used PED's but I believe Canseco believed he did not. I'd say Canseco is batting .750, but I also don't put much credence behind a guy who was a pro athlete who now couldn't even get a job as a towel boy in an MLB locker room and is relegated to playing slow pitch softball a few times a week in order to keep his ego satisfied.
  20. It's in the same place as the part where Canseco undeniably states that A-Rod uses steroids. The argument here was that there was the belief that if Canseco states it in one of his "books", it must be true. You're original quote of the statement regarding Clemens from Juiced was missing some important information. You are correct he never said Clemens did not use PED's, but after Clemens' testimony on Capitol Hill, it appears that Canseco's implied belief that Clemens didn't use PED's is completely off base. I am only saying his accusations regarding A-Rod could also be completely off base. By the way, has Canseco found any funding sources for his movie (read Ordonez)
  21. As Paul Harvey would say, "and now for the rest of the story": Here's the entire book entry It was the pitchers that kept the “B12” joke going. For example, I’ve never seen Roger Clemens do steroids, and he never told me that he did. But we’ve talked about what steroids could do for you, in which combinations, and I’ve heard him use the phrase “B12 shot” with respect to others.
