  1. The Yankees have the best Run differential in MLB at 99-70. They have allowed the 2nd fewest runs in the AL (Detroit is 1st) at 70. They are 7-0 in day games and 1-8 at night. How the hell are we 8-8 with the best run differential in the game and the 2nd lowest RA? It does not make sense, only way to go is up I guess....
  2. Foulke has been ok to this point, but I dont think he is ready for high pressure set-up or closer duties. Timlin has been fine and Paps has been lights out. Other than those 3, the pen has been rough....
  3. if a reliever closes out the game with 3 innings + of relief, he gets the save...
  4. did I say that? No, dont put words in my mouth. It is a tough stretch in that it will be mostly on the road and your home games are tough. Plus, with no leadoff hitter and no #5 starter, you guys might have some trouble...
  5. have you guys noticed the murderers row the sox are in the midst of? 3@TOR, 3@CLE, 3@revitalized TB, 2Home vs NYY, 2Home vs TOR, 3Home vs BAL, 3@NYY that is insane....
  6. I didnt care either way. Pointing out that a guy is sucking doesnt usually mean much. Lester will be fine, all it may indicate is that he was promoted a little too fast....
  7. Duncan has actually kinda turned it around. He was under .100 for about 2 weeks and now he is .259. He is not a guy we are worried all that much about. He is 21 yrs old and plays a corner IF position. We can take our time with him, but our pitching prospects need to get ready faster, as we will need to reload soon. Hughes has been nearly untouchable and just got promoted to AA, so he should be good.
  8. His K's show his stuff, but his walks and hits are alarming. I know how fluid things go, that is why I used the terms "so far". He may be in over his head, though, and may need a demotion to get his s*** back together...
  9. Lester has sucked so far eh? 6BB in 8.1IP, 10H, 11K, 8+ERA and 0-3? He wont be ready this yr....
  10. nah, he has a wild track record....
  11. even if wells doesnt, I think Alvarez or Lester will be more effective than DiNardo...
  12. DiNardo doesnt have it today, lol. DiNardo never really has ever had it. He is a fill in who exceeded expectations in one game. He'll be a lefty specialist once wells returns....
  13. good start for Halladay
  14. depends on what you need. With Beckett and Schilling dominating to this point, your staff needs a solid closer more than another starter...
  15. stellar quote...
  16. they already tried enforcing the strike zone and it backfired. Quest tech was that brain child and what it did was eliminate the corners as umps were too scared to call them. Dont fiddle with the strike zone, but check the consistency of umpires. If a guy gives 3 inches on the outside corner of the zone, then so be it, but if he gives it one pitch and not the next, that is a problem. As far as bang bang plays, you'd be surprised as to how many they get wrong, but the plays that arent bang bang are inexcuseable....
  17. that is what i am advocating it for....
  18. I hear ya. That is how I used to approach it, but they continue to get worse and that is alarming. The NFL changed back because their officials got worse and they had to cave under the pressure. If these umps get any worse, I expect the same thing....
  19. The reason I was never a replay fan before was because the strike zone was usually the only pathetic calls made during the game, but the increasing terrible call rate on the bases is inexcuseable. You have to use it on the bases if you are going to use it, because a base call is not a feel thing like a strike zone is, a base call is a black or white call...
  20. Guys, I have long been an advocate of the purist view of baseball, but the continuing downward trend of these umpires is starting to change my tune. I know the sox got jobbed last night on one of their calls, I saw the replay, but I forgot what it was. Also, last night the yankees got jobbed twice and it cost us the game. In the 4th inning, Mora hit a 2 run infield single, but replay showed he was out, and it was not even really bang bang. The ump took a bad angle, again, and got the call wrong. And the final pitch of the game was about 4 inches outside and was called strike 3. If that had been a ball, Matsui would have walked and we would have scored the tying run as the sacks were packed at the time. I have never been one to really complain about the umps, but the continued pathetic nature of their calls has caused me to reconsider my view on tinstant replay. While I hated the call on Matsui, I consider the strike zone a sacred forum of baseball and hence I would not have replay of strikes and balls, but what I would have is 2 replays a game (like football), when any base call or fair/foul/HR/catch ruling can be overturned and it is under the discretion of the manager to use his red flags. Certainly, it would ruin the purity of the game to some point, but after a while, you just want the calls made correctly and the putrid nature of these umpires lately has led me to change my mind. Does anyone else feel the same way?
  21. absolutely. Watch the end of the yankee game if you wanna see getting screwed by the umps. They suck....
  22. I think Tito is mailing this one in. Foulke for inning #2? Not sure about that....
  23. It would be poetic if Foulke blow it...
  24. BTW, Burnett left with an elbow injury. MRI will likely be done tomorrow...
