I go by loss column, so I say we are in first. It doesnt really f***ing matter though, as the difference is so slim and we have over 130 games left. Either way, the loss column is the only way to standardize teams that have played more games. Also, trailing in the loss column means that you require the other team to lose, ie you need help to get back into first. It usually also insinuates that you have played more games if you trail in the loss column, but by none in the standings. If you also factor in the fact that a team like the yankees are playing at a .600 clip or so, and hence they are more likely to win on any given day than lose. Either way, it is a matter of semantics, but you will see me consistently tout the loss column as the sole marker of standings. I usually do not count on the win column for much as far as standings unless the loss column is tied....
