  1. He has a deep bruise on his wrist that is precluding him from swinging. That's all....
  2. Just saw an update on Sheff on rotoworld. He is expected to be back within a few days of his DL activation, which will be may 21.
  3. they should play 2 tomorrow if it is rained out today. MLB will try to force the issue so Texas doesnt have to travel 1800 miles up here for one game....
  4. There you go again, shooting your mouth off. Melky is a different player than Sheffield or Matsui, and btw, we dont have to replace sheff long term like we do matsui. Melky is a guy who has potential to hit .300 and steal 20 bases. Thats it, he isnt very powerful, he will take the occasional walk, but he can be a good young major league baseball player. We arent going to find the next pujols fishing through our system, it just doesnt happen that way. We dont need to get 30HRs out of our LFer, we just need a guy who wont be dead weight in the lineup. And, btw, George will stand by and enjoy watching another young may callup shine if he continues to hit the way he has thus far....
  5. Olney and Gammons should drop their ESPN bit and just call themselves the embedded homers of ESPN. Either way, Olney has been right here and there, but we'll see how it turns out. I dont want Abreu even if they gave him to us. It would be a logistical nightmare for our team once we get healthy and it would cause way too many headaches. We should only explore that route if we cannot do it from within.....
  6. So a prospect who hit .385 in AAA as a 21 yr old is garbage and you judged that on what, his 6 at bats so far this yr (3 hits btw). You know nothing about Melky aside from the scared little 20 yr old you saw last yr. This kid is considered ready now and we will see. To say that he is not the answer is premature to say the least.....
  7. he is a defensive specialist. He cannot hit....
  8. I hardly ever stay mad across threads or for a long time. This is a board, we're here for banter, fights, fun....
  9. you have redeemed yourself in one post. Reggie Sanders would be a perfect fit. Easy to get, playoff caliber player who wont take much to get. I likey....
  10. Finally some good news... GM Brian Cashman said that there "is no cause for concern whatsoever on Gary Sheffield" and surgery is not an option at this point. Asked if Gary Sheffield's sprained wrist is more serious than previously believed, Cashman replied, "No, we've had two hand specialists review his stuff and surgery's definitely not an issue at all." There is no timetable for Sheff's return, but he'll likely be back sometime next week. May. 13 - 10:17 am et
  11. I know how good he can be. The question is, do you bring him up now or wait until next yr?
  12. I have made the point that we are not even a quarter of the way through this thing yet. Long way to go, but it is good to see where you stand....
  13. the blue jays are a team that will be an annoyance but still wont be enough of a factor to win anything this yr. Burnett is a vag, and you need him.
  14. oh absolutely. I am only saying that we are ahead by 1 game with 130 to go. It means nothing....
  15. Nobody is. The fact remains, though, that you will need the yankees to lose to get even with them. Hence, if a team needs help, then they are not in the lead. I know it is kinda weird, but loss column is the way all the analysts go by and I think they use it for a good reason....
  16. yeah. Cano played like Alomar in his prime last night. Those plays were damn near impossible....
  17. All I am saying is that his PROGNOSIS is that he will return in august. That infers that his ligaments are intact. If they weren't, his PROGNOSIS would be out for the season. Your PROGNOSIS can change based on setbacks.
  18. I know. It is just how I have always determined who is in front and who is trailing. Thats all....
  19. seriously, I shouldnt have to explain the logic of following the loss column to every single person that asks. Losses are games that cannot be made up in the standings. Wins can be. If you trail somebody by X number of games in the win column, that only means that they have played more games than you. If you trail somebody by X number of games in the loss column, then that means that you cannot get those games back and you therefore need help to overtake them. Put it this way, the easiest way to determine who is in first is by going like this. If the yankees and sox both win all their remaining games (I know impossible and improbable) who would be in first. Thats how I look at it. Your loss is a game that you cannot make up and you require help to get that game back. The loss column is the way to go, period....
  20. I dont want abreu thank you very much. We dont need another overpaid player on the team. I like the idea of building from within to heal our wounds and it will only make the organization stronger if Melky actually does the job for the next 3 months....
  21. he burst your bubble because they were not the same injury. Tendons and ligaments are much harder to return from than bone breaks. Breaks heal rather well. Tendons and ligaments take much longer and they return stiff and weak. Think about it, bones are meant to be hard, so when they heal they become hard again, no problem. Tendons and ligaments are made to hold two bones or a muscle and a bone together and are under major shear stress and must also respond at a moments notice. If they are torn, they lose their tensile strength and they never return to the way they were before....
  22. seriously, that is a stupid post too. So a guy who tears a meniscus has the same prognosis as a guy who ruptures his ACL because both injuries are in the knee? Makes no f***ing sense at all....
  23. seriously, you cannot retort my point so you throw a no-substance crap post like that in there. I was hoping for something more out of you. I have a medical background. I know the prognosis and the worries about a wrist fracture and I know how long it would keep a hitter our for. Torn wrist tendons or ligaments mean season over, 6-10 months of recovery before he can swing a bat again, earlier if he is lucky. A wrist fracture, depending on the location can be anywhere from 4-6 to 10-12 weeks depending on which bone is broken. Your wrist is actually a collection of a bunch of bones. Scaphoid, lunate, trapezium, pisiform, trapezoid, triquetrum, capitate and hamate. Some fractures are worse than others and those bones are frequently dislocated with hard trauma. If he is out 12 weeks, he likely broke a stronger bone (scaphoid maybe) and may have dislocated it as well. The good thing is, they went in and fixed it and didnt change the prognosis. That means they saw the ligaments and they were intact. Hence, he has a 3 month (or 12 week prognosis). He has a high likelihood of having a setback on his road to recovery. Seeing as he hasnt had one yet, he is expected to be back in mid august by simple math. No Kool-Aid, just hard facts. When and if he has a setback, then he will adjust accordingly...
