  1. This team needs more offense Posted by Peter Abraham, Globe Staff May 6, 2010 12:42 PM That was the refrain all winter. Let's take a look: Home runs Blue Jays 43 Diamondbacks 40 Red Sox 39 Doubles Blue Jays 80 Tigers 76 Red Sox 68 OPS Yankees .822 Diamondbacks .814 Red Sox .812 Slugging Diamondbacks .467 Red Sox .464 Those pesky facts. Still the Sox are only ninth in runs scored. But that is a product of poor situational hitting early in the season and we're starting to see that even out now. By the All-Star break, the guess here is they'll be top four or five. Jason Bay is hitting .238 with one (1) home run in the National League, by the way. He has struck out 33 times in 101 at-bats.
  2. ANGELS (12-16) Aybar SS Abreu RF Hunter CF Morales 1B Matsui LF Izturis DH Kendrick 2B Napoli C Wood 3B Pitching: RHP Joel Pineiro (2-3, 5.76).
  3. Ortiz will remain in the lineup tonight Posted by Peter Abraham, Globe Staff May 5, 2010 12:19 PM Terry Francona just said on WEEI that David Ortiz would be the designated hitter tonight. They're sticking with him against the righthander. Bill Hall will play center field. He's 3 for 9 against Joel Piniero with a home run
  4. "David's fine. He's one of our teammates. We believe in him. He's going to come out of it. He's had 60 at-bats. A couple of years ago I had 60 at-bats and it was me hitting .170 and everybody was ready to kill me, too. Then what happened? 'Laser show.'" -- Red Sox captain Dustin Pedroia, who was batting .172 on May 1, 2007, but went on to win the AL Rookie of the Year
