  1. Why though? Some of the players Wilt played against wouldn't even sniff the NBA now. Can you say that for the players today? I realize comparing eras is tough, but if you don't like the athletes in the game today would have a distinct advantage, I think that's a bit shortsighted. __________________ if they were running track or weight lifting or even playing football this is a no brainer. games that are more predicated on speed and size baseball hoop and hockey are a bit different i feel lets look at the miami dolphins defense from 1972 dick anderson jake scott bill stanfill manny fernandez nick buoniconti doug swift vern denherder etc.....all white men.... then from 1982 glen and lyle blackwood, baumhauer duhe betters beaucamper how many white dudes were on the 92 team that hosted the afc championship game?? this is how the game has changed in the nfl now the nba is a different game never mind the height factor we agree on the players getting bigger but its the weight of the avg guy thats shocking and im not so sure that physical strength is very important to say an off guard or a small forward or a point guard what advantage does sebastian telfair have over tiny archibald now that he can bench press 400lbs?? in the paint theres something to say for the muscle heads but outside the paint it dont really matter that much on the 2007 celtics there isnt a guy on this team with the exception of paul pierce who could make their team from 40 years ago not a 1 maybe big al....maybe and he would be at the end of the bench look at the nuggs melo and ai would make any team but look up and down that bench and ask yourself who couldve cracked their lineup from their old aba days when dan issell and david thompson were playing or when they were perrenial runners up to the lakers in the 80s?? there maybe a few but by and large their team then was probably better than their team now... what about the lakers?? knicks philly houston etc... are any of these teams better today than 25 years ago?? athletetic ball players are important but they dont always have the advantage
  2. cowens was 6'8 when he manhandled the 7'3? jabbar in the 74 finals id put him against any center in the league today barkley led the league in rebounding as a 6'5 forward rodman was another guy who owned the glass at 6'8 jordan was a guard at 6'6 but magic played all 5 positions in the 80 finals at 6'8 who out there would you take over magic johnson today?? allen iverson isnt 6'0 tall is he?? steve nash is the best player in the game followed by duane wade, you can make a case for either and no one could argue....is nash 6' tall?? is wade 6'4?? i dont know but theyre little guys is steve nash more athletic than say....bob cousy was 50 years ago?? or john stockton 15 years ago?? how can we judge this fairly?? havlicek was asked how he played hard every nite with all his success he said ""the player of the game got a free tank of gas at citgo, back then we had 30 gallon tanks, hey,it was worth 10.00 "" and as i hear this i look down on the celtic bench and realize dante scalabrine is making more than the entire celtic roster did in the 60s anyways its not just the height its the width the game has changed so much but its the bulk not really the height that ive noticed sampson was a 7'4 small forward, bill lambier was a 6'11 perimeter center this was 20 years ago its a different game my man
  3. the league was a lot different in the 60s than the 90s different transportation and scheduling, much more physical, less teams etc.. russell never stopped wilt,he just beat him every year nate thurmond had a quadruple double 1 game oscar avgd a triple double....for the season wilt led the league in assists 1 season no 3 point line or jerry west may have led the league in scoring every year different game different athletes cant really compare the 2 eras michael has his legacy thats it he also had the 2nd best player in the league with him in pippen,a man who really complimented his game the years jordan was gone the bulls were still competetive but dont take houston out of the equation simply because michael wasnt there they had akeem and clyde and otis thorpe and perrenial winner sam cassell as well as robt horry..... all these guys were winners and im thinking akeem and houston wouldve given chicago fits with the backcourt speed of drexler and cassell and a power forward like thorpe, the mismatches houston had were vast....who knows,it never happened chicago beat the centerless lakers sonics jazz and suns when they played detroit lambier was essentially a perimeter player, rik smits in indiana wasnt a physical center....the only team that had some balance were the knicks who just didnt have any backcourt presence to handle either pips or jordan ewing would get his but the other guys never stepped up and by the time larry johnson and oakley came around ewing was past prime there were some epic battles but i think chicago had a break not having to play the lakers when they were the west coast champs for 8-10 years as well as avoiding any real iron in the east
  4. if hes that hurt then shelve his ass now if its a matter of wear and tear theres little that can be done and as a closer we'll find out quickly how strong he is considering how the season ended last year im thinking shelving him was more precaution than anything else
  5. based on your argument youre correct that said what makes you think he cant he hasnt tried when he pitched in 05 he threw as requested, they never pushed him and he never appeared strained in my eyes anyways.. if his velocity fell later in the games he started as a rookie it should be considered rather common i simply refuse to rule out how effective his potential as a starter could be because hes excelled in evrery other arena we threw him in if your argument is we shouldnt fix what aint broke i can agree with that assessment if youre saying he wont have an era under 2 as a starter id agree with that as well the books wide open on his career and i havent seen anything in his game to dismiss him as a starter
  6. aparicio falling down rounding 3rd and cousin joey proclaiming WHAT A TITIN BALLCLUB
  7. is there an owner with more personal bank than pohlad?? what an ******* minny must be longing for the salad says of calvin griffith
  8. fkn wallace drains a tying 3 with .01 left
  9. i didnt have to watch .2 and 5 earned writes him a ticket to lovely pawtucket and where are the bats hiding
  10. not yet he aint minny has been competetive and if liriano and radke stayed healthy they had a pop last year
  11. 99.9% of the prospects can throw most never learn to pitch paps dominate last year as a closer he was great in 05 as a set up guy and in spot starts 26 is 26 14 years ago schill was 26 at best any future predictions are guess work
  12. if that broad is involved in the broadcast id watch with either ear plugs or a qt of 101 proof bourbon i hate that wanker and charlie steiner as well
  13. ya but when he figured it out it was too late i saw becks get crushed in back to back starts against detroit and ny at home it was bloody and it was the warm up for the fat lady and he orchestra he started out as if he would win 30 that friday nite in toronto when he blew that huge lead late was the turning point in our and his season
  14. then i will drive to minneappolis and kill carl pohlad for the sake of the good people in minnesota and baseballs general health if they try me in minny or boston there isnt a jury alive that would convict me the only place a conviction is possible is ft lauderdale tampa or the bronx i thought phil hughes was a sure fire 15-18 game winner??
  15. paps is still young who knows how he would develop as a starter we never stretched him out enuff to determine this and when he did get the ball as a rookie he fared ok it isnt in cement that he dont have the endurance to become a 7ip guy
  16. i wouldve bet my life that if the gtown nc game was in the 80s that nc would have killed them i had the heels going all the way and i'll be scratching my head for a while wondering what the f*** happened there
  17. tuff beating quality teams on the road in this league then to have to play detroit in the back end of 2 road games is a chore + tax 63-62 nuggs but lets see what the 4th quarter brings i like the way theyre playing now
  18. laxity shouldnt be an issue eat a lot of fruit and muscle down a berry flavored smoothie and you should be ok
  19. how long till the fire joe campaign gets under way mj??
  20. gom becks won 16 games during his sucky year of transition i'll take that for the rest of his career here in boston
  21. becks curve ball was better saturday than at any point last year it is the missing pitch that he needs to harness and when he masters it he becomes very difficult to hit and cy young material in the process so long as he throws it for strikes
  22. that was the bug with zito ny owned his ass so why drop insane coin on a guy who cant beat ny?? i felt the same about martinez at the end he couldnt beat ny no matter what...was it a head thing or was it the old familiarity breeding contempt....19 games a year xs 7 years and the playoffs and the scouting and the film etc.... nobody knows what dice k will do,we can speculate all we want come july after hes had 3 months of this media circle jerk on his ass he may snap a carrot or he may get a charge of strength from it we dont know has their ever been this much noise made over a man who i think they have penciled in as a 3rd starter??
  23. greg oden just made every single lottery gm feel like publically masturbating the memphis center(p/f) was shut out ...fukin scoreless man dorsey had 0pts 3boards and 4fouls oden 7-8 from the field and showed some real soft hands and quick feet when he caught it in the low post dorsey 0-0....no attempts?? is this unreal or what
  24. ya im hurting inside for them...pavano was on yesteday wasnt he?? 4ip and only 8 hits.... did torre indicate how happy he was and how courageous carlo is and how this is a building block and how they're taking baby steps?? i wanted pavano badly in boston...i was pissed he landed in ny i had no idea he was a woman trapped inside a mans body i hope he finds his inner peace for all hes done for the sox franchise anyways i was told phil hughes would be a 15 game winner....i didnt know they meant in columbus or trenton but hey,if it helps them sleep im ok with it wang was arguably the best righty last year in the al,im not sold on him being a legit 1 but he had a ton of success and this set back is a kick in the yanks ass if it lingers
  25. ex-1 all you say has merit and truth but dont sell duquettes moves short as we applaud theos success fact is the core was in place when henry et al bought in manny petey tek lowe wake etc.. im aware of theos moves but if you recall it was jeremy giambi we signed to play 1st base and be our key lefty bat, ortiz wasnt in the lineup every day till mid may or early june ? anyways duke had to answer to john harrington who was the owners mouthpiece in negotiations he was a bloodless business man who inherited the team for the yawkey trust duke didnt have the final say or an owner who would go the extra mile he was an aloof ********** whos people skills were just absent but he did indeed put the wheels of 04 into place where i find fault in this f/o is their lack of consistancy when it comes to spending, who they spend it on and who they dont spend it on..i also took major major issue with the dumping of arroyo and their laid back attitude last summer when we were decimated with injury yet still in the hunt... they laid back and surrendered rather than attempt to acquire help they then said something to the effect of ""we cant compete year in and out with them"" ok i bought it against my better judgement and as we know now it was a spin which was completely full of s*** this offseason was an eye opening mind numbing whirl wind of incredible contracts given out to people that as far as im concerned have question marks and a lot to live up to as far as their recent post season success goes since ..95?? i guess just remember that for 90 years you had to come in first to get into the post season no wild card no playoffs no ring without winning the division or before 69 the league pennant i love the wild card because more teams are in it later into the season but the fact is we would be suicidal having been behind ny 11 years running with no wild card to fall back on its hard to bitch when the bottom line of winning is all i care about i just think they could do some things better and reduce some of the micro managing that i think occurs every october when the season ends
