  1. He could have been as good as J.D. Drew. Haaaaaaaaaahaha. Remember when they were calling Drew the next Mick?
  2. The problem with the ALE is...the division is going to be packed so tightly that you don't have a month or two to audition a couple of guys and see who gets the role. You could easily try a couple of guys out, end up dropping 3 or 4 games, and have that be the deciding margin of the season. We need to get a plethora of guys in here and make a decision BEFORE the season starts.
  3. I was at the rally where he said that...he was entirely messing around. The whole crowd was chanting "One More Year...One More Year..." and he came to the mike and quipped..."ya'll keep saying on more year...I thought college was supposed to be four years?" Everyone knew Melo was one and done. But that was a different situation...with the exception of maybe DWade...Melo was head and soulders above anyone else on the floor with him that season. Henrich? Ford? Psh...common.
  4. So induct him as a player...leave him out as a manager. What did he do that challenged the integrity of the game while he was a player? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Did it challenge the integrity of the game when the Mick would play games waaaaaaaaaasted?!? I'd say yes. Is he in the Hall? Of course.
  5. Not even Coco's mom ever thought that...
  6. I know I know...I suck. I screwed up my ankle WICKED bad snowboarding the other day and haven't been off the couch in like 4 days. I'll get it out soon guys, I swear. I'll even throw in an extra fiver for the delay. Sorry fellas...hopefully you all understand.
  7. Obviously the Sox aren't going to give up anything/anyone marquee for him...but if we can pick him up for a low level prospect, I don't see a reason why not. Theo's been stingy with prospects in the past, so you know he's not going to give up anyone he legitimately sees a future with to get a guy like Benitez. If the deal gets done, I have faith that Theo will evaluate the situation and deal someone who he doesn't see ever making any kind of a significant impact in the Bigs. Guys...plain and simple...we don't have the luxury of playing 8 inning games this year like the Angels, Yanks, A's, etc do. We've got to get a plethora of guys who have proven in the past that they have some talent and hope that some of that talent resurfaces. No one is in favor of dealing any of our big prospects to get a lock-down closer...but then again, no one feels like any of our big prospects are ready to be handed the ball in the 9th, either. Well, sometimes gotta give in that situation...
  8. I'd be in favor of picking him up...he can still throw hard, and it's not like we have many other options. The more people with opportunities the better, I say...you have a better chance at finding a diamond in the rough if you increase the size of your mine.
  9. We're in freaking disbelief here in Cusetown... ...of course I'm biased, but I really think they belong in there. I think they've gotten in other years when they were less deserving than they are this year.
  10. Alright, so, call me gay if you want to...but I got a semi when I watched the movement on the 1st pitch DiceK tossed at Uggla (I think). Goddamn, I'd kill to have a woman this curvacious: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPAORzw8Ksk
  11. What the heck does that mean? :dunno:
  12. I think to have a list like this without Mr. Splitty from Clemens repetoire is foolish. When Clemens was on, it was downright unhittable. And the cool thing about his split, or, well, any good split for that matter, was that you could throw it as an outpitch in any situation. (Except maaaaybe with less than 2 outs and a runner on third)...but you could get the K, or, assuming the hitter makes contact, you're going to get a weak ground ball for a double play. There's a lot more guys that throw them now...so it might not be as effective today as it was when he started throwing it, but it's still a nasty pitch. Now that it's come out that the gyroball was pretty much a myth, Sutter's Split was still the last "new" pitch to come into MLB. s*** is still naaaaaaaaasty.
  13. Here...for each and every one of you...because it's obviously something that needs to be addressed YET AGAIN: CLEMENS WILL NOT MAKE $20 MILLION FOR A HALF-SEASON. $20 MILLION IS A FIGURE BEING THROWN OUT BECAUSE NO ONE ELSE BESIDES ROGER CLEMENS SIGNS HALF-YEAR CONTRACTS. HIS CONTRACT WILL BE A PRO-RATED AMOUNT BASED UPON WHEN HE COMES BACK AND HOW MUCH HE PLAYS, BASED ON A FULL-YEAR SALARY OF ABOUT $20 MILLION. Sorry for the size people...but how do some people just not get this?!?
  14. I hate when I make a good post and then it's lost because someone goes and says something stupid like this afterwards. Of course Clemens wasn't on the mound when the Sox won the series. At the same rate, the sentimentality can still be there. Fans who understand baseball and look deeper into things realize that it was the FO that dicked over Clemens. They didn't show him the respect he had earned/deserved and he flew the coop. Did I like him playing for the Yanks? s*** no. But at the same rate, the guy's is a helluva pitcher, and I loved him while he played in Boston. I don't blame him for leaving when he did. Sure, the course of events would have been different should I have written it, but whatever. I'm not even a big Clemens fan...but to imply that Clemens can't have sentimentality towards playing in Boston because he never won a Series here is ridiculous. Coming back to play for fans who never wanted you to leave and finishing up with the team that gave you your shot on their quest to bring another championship to argueably the most passionate fans in all of professional sports? Sheesh...where's the sentimentality in that?
  15. OK...to all of the Sox fans saying that the FO is making a smart decision...if this were football, I would agree with you. Football has a salary cap to deal with, and signing someone like Schilling who is asking for more money than he may prove he's worth would hamper the teams ability to make other moves. Thanks to Bud Selig, George Steinbrenner, and the "new age" of baseball, this is not the case in our sport. Regardless of what the front office will tell you...the Sox have an ENDLESS amount of money. You've all been to games, you all know what you've paid for tickets, you've all bought merch, you know what that stuff costs...the Boston Red Sox are BIG business. They chose to keep their payroll where it is so that they can make MORE money. It's not like they're struggling to pay the players what they are...they're making money hand over foot off of the Sox. That being said, the Sox owe it to Schilling to let him finish up here as he has stated he wants to do. If it were a salary cap concern, I would totally understand the FO's stance...it's not, however. If they pay Schilling $14 million next year or whatever he's asking for...it's $14 million LESS that the owners bring in, and that's why they're hesitant, and that's what rubs me the wrong way. Schilling made a sacrifice for you in pitching on an ankle that could have potentially ended his career; you should, in turn, make a "sacrifice" for him. End of story.
  16. Schilling is one of the only guys that you can say "deserves" an extension. Even if he's not 04 Schill this year, you KNOW he'll at least be competent enough to be a 3rd or 4th starter next year, and that's all we need assuming Beck and DiceK make their mark. Is $14 million a lot to pay for a 3rd or 4th guy? Sure. Is $14 million too much to pay to allow a guy who put his career on the line to make the dreams of all of New England come true finish up on the Sox? Hell no.
  17. Pedroia looks like a bat boy haha
  18. Usually it's not the cancer that makes people weak...it's the drugs and treatment that drain. Obviously there are exceptions, but in general...
