  3. According to the Globe’s Gordon Edes in New York, it looks like they'll play baseball in the Bronx tonight as the rain has been intermittent and is falling very lightly right now. Jaret Wright 3-3 4.12 http://espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/65x90/5839.jpg Boston (33-23) at NY Yankees (35-22) 7:05 pm EDT BRONX, New York (Ticker) - With weather providing an extra day of rest, Boston Red Sox ace Curt Schilling will look to salvage the finale of what has become a three-game series against the New York Yankees. Rain postponed Wednesday's affair at Yankee Stadium, perhaps giving the Red Sox an extra day to regroup after dropping the first two games of the series and four consecutive meetings against their arch-rivals overall. No makeup date was announced for the second game between the clubs to be rained out this season. Schilling (8-2, 3.86 ERA) was roughed up in his last start here, surrendering six runs and eight hits in five innings of a 7-3 loss on May 10. He atoned for that effort 12 days later, allowing just one run and five hits in eight frames of a 9-5 win over New York at Fenway Park. Since joining Boston prior to the 2004 season, Schilling has gone 5-3 with a 4.56 ERA in 10 regular-season appearances - eight starts - against the Yankees. He also turned in arguably the most memorable performance of his career here in Game Six of the 2004 AL Championship Series, working seven brilliant innings of a 4-2 triumph with sutures stabilizing his ailing right ankle. Despite the prolonged absences of injured star outfielders Hideki Matsui and Gary Sheffield, the Yankees have won 11 of their last 14 games to claim a 1 1/2-game lead over the Red Sox in the AL East Division. Captain Derek Jeter also has missed the first two games of this series with an bruised right thumb suffered during Sunday's 11-4 loss at Baltimore. Jaret Wright (3-3, 4.21) has gone 3-1 with a 3.21 ERA over his last six starts, representing easily his best stretch since signing with the Yankees prior to last season. Embedded in that span was five scoreless innings of a 7-5 win at Boston on May 23. In his previous nine starts against the Red Sox, Wright was 1-4 with a 7.30 ERA. Johnny Damon has recorded three singles and three walks in the first two games of this series after beginning his Yankees career just 4-for-24 (.167) against the Red Sox, with whom he accumulated 730 hits and 461 runs over the previous four seasons.
  5. He likely won't be. 1. Hes a side arm type of pitcher 2. He doesn't have the arm strength of his brother 3. He was a 48th round pick. His brother was a 4th round pick. He is a long shot at best.
  6. Don't expect him to be anything like his brother
  7. The Marlins I have heard want a catching prospect, a centerfield prospect, and another top prospect.
  8. yes but that was in due part to his real slow start
  9. His BABIP is .279
  10. Both are Juniors at the University of North Florida.....Jeremy is a LHP and Josh is a side winding RHP.
  11. I would expect that both could go back to school to improve their draft stock for next season.
  12. Sox draft RHP Josh Papelbon in the 48th round out of North Florida.
  13. They either get signed or go to college....If they are signed the HS kids go to the GCL and the college picks go to Lowell or Greenville.
  14. chances are those names will leak out.
  15. agreed....to get schmidt we are talking parting with either lester or hansen and others....i'm sorry not worth it.
  16. after last night he has earned another start or 2. if he pitches like he did last night and thats a big if then they can afford to put him on the hill every 5th day.
  17. yes and there is another papelbon as well....Josh papelbon who is jeremy's twin. they both pitch for the university of north florida.
  18. Jeremy Papelbon taken in the 19th round by the Cubs
  19. welcome to talksox
  20. The bashing of trot is his .463 slugging percentage which is horrible for a guy protecting manny. He has no power anymore and should be hitting 5th anymore.
  21. Foulke did not go on the DL prior to tonights game. JVB was sent down to make room for Hansen.
  22. The Sox probably had one of the better drafts out there. There top 5 picks were solid. Then the sox basically went the college route for the next 4 picks or so as they were guys that were likely easy sign guys. The sox then took 4 HS players that could be considered tougher signs. Along with getting some more college guys to potentially fill out rosters they put icing on the cake when they selected Matt LaPorta in the 14th round and Lars Anderson in the 18th round both of whom slipped big time because of bonus demands. Of course not everyone will sign or pan out but the FO did a solid job targeting players and drafting them.
  23. his ISOP is .159. For a #5 hitter that is pathetic. get him out of that spot asap.
  24. He has a slow bat and no power anymore. That's what injuries will do to a player. The sox are lucky he is done after this year because he making too much money to be a 15 homer guy
  25. too early..he's already been in the big leagues before and besides they need a fresh arm in the pen.
