It was only on there after it was officially announced. Nothing really leaked to the Boston Media that was in any of today's morning edition newspapers.
The Red Sox can find Bronson Arroyo type pitchers anywhere in baseball. Heck the Red Sox got Bronson off waivers from the Pirates. Bronson is what he is and that is a league average pitcher who is likely not going to get better with age. His K numbers have already started to take a dip and it likely will not go up as he gets older.
Pena has a strong arm and has raw defensive tools. If he wasn't rushed to the majors because of his freaking contract he signed with the Yankees before being traded to the Reds maybe he would have matured a bit more. He didn't spend enough time in the minors to develop. Had he stayed in the minors for the right amount of time then he would have been more polished both offensively and defensively.
I saw that one too but it never got into any newspapers and no one talked about it on radio until it was announced. Great job by the Sox front office on keeping discussions private for the most part.
One thing about this deal that I am happy about is that there were no front office leaks before it was officially announced. I think this was a big step to see if the front office could keep quiet on all decisions regarding the baseball operation side.
You may not like it but its a lot more entertaining then watching a Spring Training game. Many people have criticized this tournament and it has become a success in many fans eyes not only in the United States but around the world. Obviously there are things that need to be improved like changing some of the tiebreakers as well as matchups in the later rounds. The WBC should have the winners of each pool play the 2nd place team from the opposite pool like they do in hockey. It would make things alot more interesting so they would not be playing the same team multiple times.
He didn't have a no trade clause in his deal and for the Red Sox they got some value in this trade in Wily Mo Pena who is only 24. It's a business and for the Red Sox this is a business decision to improve the team.
I liked Bronson and thank him for his contributions but for the Red Sox to get Wily Mo Pena for Arroyo is a steal especially if Wily Mo ever lives up to what he was suppose to become and there is still time since he is only 24. Arroyo's trade value was not going to be any higher.
