  1. They could sign a right handed OFer to help Kalish in a platoon situation until he gets comfortable and consistent. maybe a Jeff Francoeur type.
  2. I agree. It shortens games and makes the manager's job much easier.
  3. Livan Hernandez? Goodness! And he accuses me of judging players by their past. The Sox should bring up Millwood before the deadline to see if he has anything to contribute. If he has nothing left, they should pursue Dempster.
  4. Still Beltran. In 2012, Kalish and Reddick can compete for RF. We don't need Pence long term. We need Beltran short term.
  5. It was one of the few games that Ortiz has missed other than interleague games, and it was yesterday-- easy to remember. We also underperformed today without Ortiz. Arieta has a 5+ ERA and the O's pen sucks. Yet, we only got 4 runs.
  6. Pulling out a key piece from a lineup in a short series is very hard to overcome. It doesn't matter who the opponent would be. Ortiz makes the guys around him better. The whole dynamic of the lineup changes without him. A lineup with Reddick, Salty, Scutaro and the pitcher as the bottom 4 is much less fearsome. Beltran would help immensely.
  7. Not with Ortiz sitting on the bench. We have trouble with Guthrie when Ortiz is sitting.
  8. The Sox will get to the playoffs without making any moves. Winning the Series will be difficult no matter who they face, because Ortiz will be sitting for 4 of the 7 games.
  9. This is long hanging fruit. Theo needs to get this done.
  10. Beltran is absolutely crushing the ball.
  11. They are both adequate this season. IMO, Salty's ceiling is a bad year for Martin. Salty will never perform like Martin did in his early Dodger years. He just doesn't have the ability. My problem with the Salty/Martin thing isn't that we have Salty instead of Martin. We should have them both. The Sox should've signed Martin to keep him from the Yankees who would've been forced to go with Posada and Cervelli. That would have been a hoot to watch.
  12. He's the best offensive player available and he is a switch hitter. That will be very big if we are facing Lee aand Hamel in the NL park. Reddick will get some good experience this season and a shot at the starting job next season. We need to stock up for the playoffs.
  13. I have no position on Millwood other than that they should see what he has or release him. He used to be good. I said that we should see if he has anything left in the tank. How's that judging him retrospectively? I'm not the one who signed him when he washed out of the Yankee system.
  14. He's been adequate. I have not said that he hasn't been adequate. He still stinks. His ceiling is not very high at all. What he is doing this season is probably as good as it will get with him.
  15. No, you are just misunderstanding me. Millwood at the top of his game was not impressive but he was effective. He was a very good pitcher. Catfish Hunter was never impressive, but he was very effective-- a great pitcher. Some pitchers that don't throw very hard or have outstanding looking stuff are good pitchers. When I use the term "adequate", I mean an average player (at best). Hopefully, that clarifies what I have been saying.
  16. The current crop of major league catchers is a stinky one, imo. Don't you know the rules about not carrying arguments over from other threads and about baiting. I'm not looking for an argument or to prove that Salty stinks. IMO, he stinks. He's a big stiff. He does nothing well, and he is barely adequate at most aspects of the game.
  17. Salty is has been adequate, but not effective.
  18. Plus Salty has never been impressive or effective. At best he has been adequate.
