  1. You know Mark, at first when I read your post I was saying this is t he most ridiculous thing I've read so far, but you know what? The more I thought of it the more I got to like it. I know it will never happen since Cano is not a fit for us, but with a little, no a lot of, maneuvering it just might have worked. I do seem to remember this.....Cano always has hit like hell at Fenway Park and I believe his average against us there is better than the way he's hit us at YS. Either way he is a terrific offensive player, but he would never consent to play first base so as tempting as your suggestion is I doubt Ben would even give it any thought. Nice idea, though.
  2. Think of it two other ways Bellhorn and tell me what you think. One, the fact that crime and cheating do pay as two players remarked as they denounced this signing in no uncertain terms. Secondly, is it possible that front offices and dealing with Boras has reached a saturation point? Seems to me by this signing that the Cardinals wanted no part of Scott Boras. Peralta is probably a better hitter than Stephen Drew, but in no way in hell is he a better fielder. If fact, as soon as Iggy was traded to the Tigers Peralta's days as a shortstop then were dead in the water. I just wonder who Boras is going to flim-flam to get Drew that humongous contract both he and Drew are seeking? I also think that more and more teams are getting very reluctant to give up a top draft choice since many of those same clubs have smartened up a lot and are not looking to dump heavily moneyed and long term contracts to free agents unless they are in the top 5 or 6 percent.
  3. That sounds about right to me too Bellhorn----seven years is about right at $24 million a year. However, I don't think it has a deadline as they say. I mean, remember the A-Fraud negotiations back in late 2007. They weren't going to deal with him at all and look at what they did. The Yanks will extend the deadline IMO. Cano is one player they cannot afford to lose.
  4. Uh, they are on TV all the time out here. Hard to miss them or the Angels. If you want some inside info on them I'd be glad to help you. You can't help but be overwhelmed by the propaganda the dish out. And I hope you weren't intimating that I'm a closet Dodger fan. That's war talk.
  5. Well if you noticed mvp I didn't get pissed off at your missile aimed at me. I made those statements and lived to eat my words. Certainly Swisher has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is a pretty pathetic participant in post-season play. As for Hamilton, how could I have been so off. Sometimes getting humbled a little does one a lot of good. Anyway, I'm thankful I can go to my son-in-law- parents house wearing my 2013 Red Sox WS Champion shirt while that whole Angel crowd eats their hearts out----all in a kidding way. Have a nice Thanksgiving and keep some of my better posts in reserve as well in case I need them later on.
  6. I taught writing and composition so my comprehension is fine. And Santana is not as good a hitter as Victor Martinez. Besides, talking to a scout this morning at 24-Hour Fitness he said the Red Sox to his knowledge have absolutely no interest in Santana. I'm going to assume he knows what he's talking about. And barring any unforeseen circumstances that might be the last I have to hear about it on this board. Anyway, have a nice Thanksgiving and don't overstuff it.
  7. I would just like to see the Red Sox give Lav a shot at making the team next season---as a catcher, reserve catcher, reserve first baseman, pinch hitter, whatever. I think he gives us enough offensive potential to make up for some of his defensive shortcomings. I don't know where Lauber got his information but I hope he is right. I wish all of you out there a very happy Thanksgiving. We raise a lot of hell on this board and many of us call out and get called out as well, but we are all in this together. I think right now we all feel a helluva lot better than we did at this time last year. Whatever happens during this off season I think it is fair to say the team is in pretty good hands.
  8. "WHICH MARTINEZ WOULD FIT PERFECTLY?" If you want to slam me for my opinions at least know what the f*** you're talking about. Just for the record, you meant your boy Santana!!!!!!
  9. Good piece of research to nail my ass mvp. Yes, I said those things and it is embarrassing reading them now. I've had my mea culpa where Cherington is concerned and I expect you to keep that in your diddy bag as well. There were a lot of pissed off fans after the 2012 season and if you weren't one of them you didn't have a pulse. It turned out well for all of us. As for my take on Napoli, I'm convinced he's the guy we need to resign above all others. Whose yours? Santana? Hanigan?
  10. I wonder if that's all a ruse to get the Red Sox off guard. Seems to be there should be a hell of a lot more interest in our FA than I've heard so far. Maybe the MF Yankees are laying down in the weeds like the sneaky bastards that they are and will strike when we least expect and take two of them...Drew and Ellsbury. Then again, how interested is Cherington in taking all of them back?
  11. My bad Mark.....All this stuff at the expense of Napoli is really taking its toll on me. It is as if we are pretty much expecting to kiss him off, which to me would be a bad mistake. We need him to play first base for us. I can see Santana as DH for us sometime down the road after Papi retires but he doesn't bring enough defense at catcher or first base for me. To me, all we really need is to resign Napoli, get a half-decent catcher, a utility player like Bloomquist, who can play both outfield and infield by the way, and another good reliever. I think with that we can make a move next season for an AL East Title and then more.
  12. Then take me up on my bet your gutless wonder.
  13. Well at least we were able to stop those guys from anointing Carlos Santana as our next superstar.
  14. Now you're really full of s***.....The best QB ever to play in the NFL is Joe Montana. Look it up.
  15. You ought to practice a little what you preach Mark. Your love affair with Carlos Santana is off the rocks. He is NOT a good catcher, he is NOT a good first baseman and therefore a liability in the field. There is always a chance he could suddenly erupt but since his trade to Cleveland for Casey Blake some years ago he has never has that breakout season so many of you think he is capable of if your love affair with this guy is of any indication. His value to the Red Sox would have to be as a monster hitter, someone capable of going something like 310-35-100 to make up for his defensive deficiencies. Now the Guardians are trying to see if he can play third base. Talk about panic.....if can't be a good defensive first baseman he can't be a third baseman either. He is a DH and nothing more.
  16. I know this is a board where there is a lot of brain storming and opinions fly every which way but I can't for the life of me why so many here think that Carlos Santana is the answer to a maiden's prayer. First of all those who say he is similar to Victor Martinez are full of s***. Martinez in an authentic 300 plus hitter with 20-25 home run power and he has been consistent in that since he came up with the Guardians. Santana has never hit 300 and most likely never will. He is also a sup-par defensive catcher as well as a sub par first baseman. It is that reason the Guardians signed a Yankee RF in Nick Swisher and quickly made him their first baseman. Now they want to see if Santana can play third base. See a pattern here? Also, though it is a strong anti-Dodger bias of mine, I have always believed the Red Sox should stay far away from any player on that team or one raised in their system. The idea of trading Renaudo, Middlebrooks and some other player for Santana is so ridiculous it almost makes lost for words.
  17. So far I've been right about Delarosa and Webster. Both got the s*** knocked out of them in their few appearances with the Red Sox this year. Neither one impressed. If you're so confident of their ability you take the bet offer I made you last summer or shut the hell up. I will bet you $100.00 that DLR never wins 15 games for us in a season nor will Webster win 16, one more since he is supposed to be better. Put up or shut the hell up. In other words, shut the hell up. As for Santana the rating went on POTENTIAL and TOOLS, and if the Guardians are interested in trading him (which some of you say) doesn't that put up a red flag that he might be overrated? BTW, that bet goes for you other two clowns to berated me for my take on them. Put up or shut up!!!!!!!!
  18. I'd rather have Satalamacchia.....he knows the staff, has proven he can play in Boston and he has improved each year he has been with us. Santana was traded away by the Dodgers who didn't think he was as good as their other young catching prospects even though none of them came close to making it to the Majors. He also hasn't been that good a hitter for the Guardians the past two years and now they are trying to fit him somewhere after being beaten out as catcher and first base. I also wouldn't try to act like a damn know it all when it comes to Dodger prospects. I live in LA and have to endure their propaganda about their over-hyped minor leaguers which Santana wasn't even that highly rated the way things turned out. You're three thousand miles away and to pretend you know as much as I do about things in my area is ridiculous. Stop it!!!!!
  19. Hart has also been described as a very nice person and I wonder how that would play on a team with the likes of Pedroia, Gomes, Victorino and others who are not very nice guys on the diamond. If he lives in Arizona let him stay in a warm weather place where the pressure isn't great and he can play totally relaxed. If he tried that tack in Boston and got off to a Crawford like start the fans would eat him alive.....and he might just go into a shell. We should know by now what types can play and succeed here and some of the names I've heard bantered about don't fit that profile---IMHO.
  20. I'm upset about it because too many of you are underestimating the value Napoli gives to the Red Sox. Neither Hart nor anyone else brings all the talent and intangibles that Nap does. Remember Hart has missed a whole season and his reputation is inconsistency. Carp is a journeyman and nothing more; he cannot handle a full time job and Nava belongs in the outfield. The Red Sox would be well advised to sign Mike as soon as possible. And for Mike, going to Seattle would be suicide if he wants to play on a winner and be a big run producer. The field is a graveyard for hitters (ask Beltre) and their team is a loser and will remain a loser. That is not for Napoli either.
  21. Bellhorn, just keep this in mind. User just disagreed with me because he wanted to disagree with me. I'm onto his game. I knew Santana was a poor defender because he heard all about him out here in LA when he was in the Dodger farm system. User is just like that guy Boomer who I used to tangle with on Sawxheads. He argued with me just to argue even if he didn't know what the hell he was talking about. At least User knows baseball for the most part, but he sure as hell didn't know Santana.
  22. No, he was also moved from catcher because he graded very poorly as a defensive backstop----that from his days as a Dodger farmhand. We heard all about him out here for a couple of years and the reason the Bums traded him away was that they believed they bad better catching prospects than him when a trade developed. That the Dodgers didn't spoke volumes just how defensively challenged he was. His forte was supposed to be his hitting. Apparently, the Guardians thought the same and now trying to move him around the diamond trying to get his bat in the lineup---a bat that, BTW, has underachieved the past few seasons. As for framing he might be better than Salty; who isn't? Yet Jarrod knows Boston, can play here, knows the pitchers and has improved on both ends of the diamond the past three seasons. He will not be replaced by someone all around better on the Red Sox if we don't resign him; he will be replaced by someone worse.
  23. Jacko my friend, ******** someone else, not me. Your team is lying in the weeds ready to make a move on Ellsbury at the last minute with a wad of cash. If my Red Sox colleagues haven't learned their lesson from the Damon and Teixiera capers last decade, it means they haven't learned that much about the Yankees.
  24. Jete, I think Beltran is a better fit for your club than ours. We have a pretty set outfield for the most part, four pretty good ones and maybe five if he resign Ells ( a distant possibility at the moment). We need to resign Napoli, get our catching set and pick up another reliever and utility infielder. That should be our shopping list unless Ben has a big trade in mind, which, I hope, does not I include taking on a big contract of some yahoo who underachieves or is injury prone.
  25. Glad someone finally mentioned that Santana is a miserable defensive catcher. That's the reason the Guardians moved him to DH; he is also a very poor first baseman. It we are thinking of that mediocrity we might as well stay with Salty. At least he knows our pitching staff and has proven he can play in Boston. I know I hit that "can he play in Boston" but we have seen over the years that many players who come to the Red Sox simply cannot handle the pressure and demands of playing in this baseball crazed city---and that is something I'm sure the front office is well aware of......or should be.
