Bravo Ted. I think you hit the nail on the head on the Farrell thing. The players were so damned disgusted with Valentine and his know-it-all ego that Farrell and his nursery philosophy was looked upon as a salve for the team----not to mention the arrival of gamers like Victorino, Napoli, Gomes, Koji, Ross and others who really didn't need a manager to know what to do. This year we see total ineptness in the dugout. We don't bunt, we don't hit and run, we never try a squeeze, we never turn runners loose and we have now come from behind to tie and then lose 20 times now. That is a telling statistic as to how we have a team that cannot finish the job and a leader in the dugout who should me MCing a kiddie show---The Big Dufus himself. And let's not kid ourselves. Taken the five managers in the AL East and the best Dufus Farrell can do is finish in a tie for 4th place. He can't hold a candle to Maddon and he is certainly not in Girardi's class as we have seen this year with Joe managing almost with two hands tied behind his back with his rotation gone and age overcoming the team. As for Buck, are you kidding?

If they were smart they would do this with Workman immediately. He is not a starting pitcher and by the second look at the guy the opposing hitters are ready for a feast and they get it. As for Webster, back up the truck. This guy is a total joke.

Good point Papi. Nap has been very deficient in that capacity this season but at least we know he is capable of getting the big hit as he proved so many times last season. Bogey, unfortunately, hasn't and must start showing an ability to hit with runners on base. -
There is no way to convert her Spud...she loves the Angels and was with them through all their miserable years in the 70's and much of the 80's and 90's. She earned the right to root for them. Also, truth be told, we will never go to a Red Sox-Angels game with me anymore. I tend to get carried away at those games and my wife got enough of that in the 2007 and 2008 ALDS's. I'm out of luck there.

What are we to make of this Tyler? Two great pitched games in a row. Has he returned to form? Don't ask me because I have given up trying to figure out Buchholz. He is one frustrating dude. Pray hard that he has finally come back to top form. Maybe there will be a miracle and he'll finally be the pitcher we all want to him to be, but don't dare hold your breath waiting for it to happen. We've been down that road many times before. -

Betts can hit with men on base---Bogaerts can't. Betts is mentally tough while Bogaerts is fragile as hell. Betts has proven he can field while Bogaerts has been a disappointment there as well. Betts can run; Bogey can't. Big difference. If I had to take one of the to I would take Mookie is a heartbeat. -
Dejesus again????? This guy is s*** warmed over. We got rid of him once and now we take him back. As for Weeks, he has been a total dud. What the hell is Ben thinking. They have no future with the Red Sox. One more time Cherington and touched something and it has turned to s***. You're on a real roll Benny.....a s*** roll.

The Angels just swept the A's four straight and Dunn will not able to reverse that. The A's are now five games behind in the AL West to an Angels team that is finally playing solid ball after four pretty crappy years. Since my wife is a diehard Angels fan I am rooting for them to take the division and advance on, and it is only fair for me to do that. My Linda was with me heart and soul when the Red Sox were making their run so turnabout is fair play.
-
Do we need any more proof now that Webster is s*** warmed over on the mound. Please my friends, don't give me any of this small sample nonsense either. He was crappy in his stints with us last year and he has looked downright pathetic this season save one game against the Angels. And the Red Sox's wonder kid Bogaerts? He leaves three more men on base tonight, though the whole offense was offensive too. Please can we see no more of Webster? He doesn't have it ......and Bogaerts should be sat down and kept down before he loses all trade value.

Our problem could be possibly solved if Cecchini could have had the kind of year he had the previous two. A red hot August might suffice but like you I like he will start the 2015 back at Pawtucket, but to me he is our next third baseman. I want Betts in CF and Holt at SS. Marrero can't hit worth s*** and we already have a weak hitter at catcher until Swihart is ready and replaces Vazquez, which I certainly hope is in the front office's master plan. We need hitters in that lineup.
-
All very true and well said Spud. I made it clear that I had deep reservations about Castillo and you can read those on this board. But not better at bat that Bradley? Are you kidding me? If that is so, then the front office has outdid itself in its ineptness and makes the Drew signing and letting Lester go look like genius moves in comparison.

Ex---I was at the Home Opening Series in April and saw in Bogaerts something that froze the hell out of me. When I came back home I wrote a missive hear that this guy was a potential choker---and got called out for it. The fact is he is not a potential choker, he is a definite one. He is the Webster of the regular lineup---a guy with the deer in the headlights look whenever he comes to the plate with runners on base. That is mostly not a correctable problem because it addresses toughness and resiliency and Drew's insertion into the lineup back in May (a disastrous decision if there ever was one and I said so at nauseam) completely discombobulated Xander. He has been totally useless since and I don't expect much improvement if any when he gets back into the starting lineup tonight. Yes, he is very young and perhaps he needed a year or to at Pawtucket, but the team should have been aware from the get-go that he had trouble handling the bat when runners were on base----a 120 average in such conditions is proof positive of that. He may make me eat my words but IMHO if we have a chance to trade this guy we should jump at it because I don't think he is ever going to be the player we thought he would be.

It's not nice to see a solid pitcher like Tanaka have to go through something like that, but is also nice to know that you have some dumb shits in your organization as we do in ours.

8/29 Red Sox at Tampa Bay
seabeachfred replied to gojohn99's topic in Mike Grace Memorial Game Thread Forum
I think that should settle the hash. Betts is in, Bradley is out. Even our bumbling front office who has turned to s*** everything they've touched this year cannot be that stupid. The problem is Castillo. He may turn out to be a star but reports is that he is not in Cespedes or Abreu's class, nor in the class of those two Cubans the Cubs are touting. I could mean we lose Betts and that would be absolutely idiotic. Remember, 319 in Cuban baseball is not 319 in the Majors. -
We have to wait for that one jd, but panic moves and stupid moves have been the theme of our muddled front office this whole season. You can catalogue the multitude of miserable moves and misjudgments in personnel that have ruined this season for us. I also have some doubts about Castillo. He is not nearly as good as Abreu, nor is he in the same league with Cespedes. The only good thing right now is that he is better than Bradley---which I know is not saying much.
-
With all due respect my friend this is the kind of stuff that really frosts me no end. Sure, Holt was not going to keep hitting 330 but he is still getting hits and is still hitting in the 290's. You want to talk about hitting washouts look at Bogaerts who people are still talking up. That season he's having not is NOT an aberration at all. He is a choker who cannot hit with men on base, is very fragile mentally and is erratic in the field. Notice how he collapsed when we signed Drew? If he cannot handle adversity and he cannot hit with men on bases and he cannot field adequately at third, that spells washout. Holt will do just fine wherever he plays---and he has earned the right to play regularly for the Red Sox. He has been a rare bright spot in a season filled wth failures like Bradley, Bogaerts, Middlebrooks and much of the pitching staff. And listen to this.....Vazquez is a weak hitter, very weak, and unless we have a murderer's row lineup we need to get Swihart ready to take over at catcher by the middle of next season. WE NEED ALL THE OFFENSE WE CAN GET, especially if we come up empty in starting pitching next season. The thought of seeing Workman and Webster in the rotation gives me the creeps, and the fact Webby is pitching tomorrow is a sickening thought.
-
Sounds nice Pal but where are we going to get top quality pitching? Prune Face will not sign anyone 30 or over and there aren't any available that I know of except maybe Hamels who would cost us a fortune----and that concerns me too because we may have to part with people like Betts and Swihart to get someone like that. The fact is as good a catcher as Vazquez is he is a very weak hitter while Swihart is almost as good defensively and a world apart from Vaz as a hitter. The same goes for Betts. Bradley would not make a good scab on Mookie's ass as a ballplayer. Our only hope is that Pruney reignites his brain and goes all out to get Jon back on our team and add Shields as a No. 2. If not, we will not be much better next season. WE NEED SOLID STARTING PITCHING and Webster and Workman aren't it. They are crapola.
-
This Castillo guy is not rated as highly as Abreu or Cespedes or even those Cubans the Cubs signed. That $70 million could have been held to try and sign Lester this off season. Now that is probably out the window---if it was ever a reality. We need starting pitching and Webster and Workman are not them. And Prune Face has to stop acting like we're a small market team. If he is going to spend money spend it where we need it. And let's pray together that Castillo doesn't turn out to be a total washout like Bogaerts---and that is exactly what he is, a total choker of a washout.
-
Give the Shanks some credit whether we want to or not. They have suffered major injuries to their starting rotation and their lineup is loaded with greybeards but they keep plugging away. Rather significant when you compare them to our club that has fallen on their faces since the opening home series. Maybe we can finish up strong in September and give ourselves some hope for next season. What I do know is that Betts must be in the lineup in CF and Bradley given a one way ticket to whoever will take that worthless bum off our hands.

08/21 Red Sox vs. Angels.
seabeachfred replied to Spudboy's topic in Mike Grace Memorial Game Thread Forum
Not only is he a choker---he isn't worth s*** as a hitter and will never get much better. If the Red Sox think this guy is going to be their middle of the order hitter they envisioned him to be they are even dumber than I think they are. If we don't trade him soon after this season to some club who would take a chance on him we won't be able to get a bottle of ginger ale for him. He is actually worse than Lazy Lars Anderson was. Remember him? -
Bradley and Bogaerts have forfeited their jobs after their miserable seasons this year. Definitely Bradley!!!! He should outrighted to the minors or traded to some sucker team in the NL that can use a 4th or 5th outfielder because that is all he is. As for the choker dandy, his leash should be so short next season he should choke to death if he moves two feet. Better yet, trade the worthless bastard. He sucks.
-
I've had it 700Hitter. I doubt if I'll watch anymore games this season. This campaign has been a total nightmare. How could a team fall so far so fast? Even with the clueless manager we have you would think they would be able to show some guts and pride and win at least one of four on their home field from the Angels. The 2014 Red Sox are a total disgrace......and, sad to say, it's a long way back.
-
Notice Papi that the friggin' moron who passes for our manager sat Ortiz tonight. So typical of that baboon---he benches hot hitters, few as they have been and lets the choker cruds like Bogaerts keep playing and keep failing.
-
Well at least Bungling Ben can rest assured that he's not the worst GM around this season because there's Amaro Jr, who makes the word putrid look good in comparison. However, I see no way he keeps his job after the miserable performance he's turned in the past two years. He wants two king's ransoms for every player he gets an offer for and since that is highway robbery nothing gets done. He better enjoy his last month and a half at Philly this year because he'll never get another GM job. He's even worse than Omar Minaya was with the Mets and that is saying something.
-
Well at least some affiliated Red Sox teams are having some success----a hell of a far cry from our pathetic home team from Boston.
