  1. Glad to hear that you are satisfied with current developements and not having a care in the world concerning the Red Sox Kilo, but a few of us do have concerns about our bullpen which I think could be the item that sinks us this year. It's not panic city but it is a concern because I'm getting tired to eating Yankee dust year in and year out in the AL East. I think if would be nice for once to let them eat some of ours. Besides, in my opinion I think you can kiss off the Wild Card because there are many other teams in the other two divisions who could win more games than the second place team in the AL East. Now if you have any reasons we should not worry I would appreciate your sharing them with me.
  2. Needless to say riverside, if Bucholz or Ellsbury are mentioned in any such trade talks it becomes a non-starter, but we have packages we could put up for a trade for Cordero. The Nationals aren't going anyplace this year or next or next and they could use some good young talent besides the ones we won't trade them. A closer to them means little because they are going to lose between 90-100 games so how many will Cordero save for them? Bowden's reluctance to pull the trigger in Cincy cost him his job there and at the rate he's going with his bad trades and inability to sign his free agents, he will soon be out of a job there unless he rebuilds his team and gets some talent for his weak farm system.
  3. You know 700, out here the Angels refused to give up any of their "prospects" last summer and failed to make the playoffs. I hope Theo's myopic design to hold onto MDC and Hansen doesn't cost us this year because MDC simply is one of those guys with good stuff who cannot put batters away, and Hansen looks like he might just be a waste of a good draft choice. I'm hoping I'm not wrong on the latter; I am convinced about the former.
  4. Ray, despite my previous rants I'm like you, very optimistic about our chances----with, however, one caveat thrown in. We must get a decent closer and one doesn't step up then trade for one. We have enough surplus pitching and outfield talent to package a deal for Cordero or Duscherer. We get a closer and we can win the AL East this year.
  5. Delcarmen has been up and down for two years and he seems to be regressing. Why Theo is holding on to this guy like he's one of the crown jewels the same way he seems to be protecting JoEl is a complete mystery to me. You are right about Okajima and Donnelly. I think those two guys will be very solid for us this year and one of them might actually become the closer. And even though I'm in the minority here I still think Timlin has some more petrol left in his tank. I wonder when Hansen is going to be ready to step in there and make an effort to win a spot in our pen, but you are absolutely right about Helton in our lineup compared to MDC in our bullpen. I liken him to the Pena of the pitching staff. We keep those two guys around for another year and we will not even be able to give them away.
  6. Ellsbury is a line drive hitting, speed demon, crack flychaser stud with developing power to boot. This young man must be given that CF position when he is ready and under no circumstances must the Red Sox trade this kid. Cirsp, Pena or Murphy or Moss go before Jacoby does.
  7. Schill, if the Red Sox are going to actually consider that piece of s*** JoEl Pineiero as our closer we might be dead as doornails by July 3rd. Another horseshit performance by the bum, four runs, four hits in an inning and a third, and Theo's wonderboy Manny Delcarmen picked up where he left off last year by once again getting hammered for three runs in his short stint. It would be real nice if we could start winning some damn games and take a lead into the ninth inning so we could audition some of the others and see who might be our closer. Pineiero sucks, Delcarmen sucks and maybe it is time to give Okajima and Donnelly some serious consideration for the job. Yeh yeh, some will say it is too early to push the panic button but I think that is the only thing that can truly sink our asses this year-----the absence of a closer and that crud Pineiero is not it. Thanks guys for listening to my rant. Suffice to say, today's game really kind of pissed me off.
  8. MANNYHOF, I agree with you on that point. He probably would stay in Boston because he loves it there, but that is another reason I don't like the way they are dissing him over this damn extention. What's done is done; the FO is not talking about an extention right now but I hope they have assured Curt that if he shows he is solid they will take into consideration that he wants to finish his career with the Red Sox. And while I'm about it that is something they sure as hell ought to make clear because our record in keeping our key players over the years has been s***** in the extreme.
  9. I wonder what they're paying Wakefield? Do you know Crunch? I mean they roll over his contract every year and they can't do that for Schilling? Who the hell would want out there in a must game?
  10. We all hope he does well RSN, but I have the same fear that Crunch has. If he has a strong season for us, which I think he will, we will be fighting other teams for his services because no matter what anyone will tell you good pitching is still in short supply in baseball. For the Red Sox $13 million is bucket of s*** compared to what they've spent this winter or what they've spent in the past. In fact, aren't we still paying some of Renteria's salary? That's another point. In years past our front office has had a proclivity of really botching it royal with some of our players in their walk year. Anyway, my main focus is now on our closer. Donnelly was terrific yesterday. Maybe he will be in the mix. I sure as hell like what I saw of him when he pitched in Anaheim. No fear of batters and balls like iron out there.
  11. "Now if they win this yr and Schilling is a big part of it then yes we would owe him a 1yr deal." Yes, we would BoNat; the only problem will be that Schilling will use that good year to sign elsewhere and we had better be damn certain we have an adquate replacement to take his place in the rotation in '08 because without one we are almost back to square one. We will have Matsuzaka, Beckett and Papelbon. We can only hope Lester is going greats guns by then, and we will definately need someone to take Wakefield's place because he is getting less effective each year. Hell, though, let's worry about 2007 first.
  12. Crunch, I think we are just wasting our time trying to argue our case. Those who support us are with us come what may; those who aren't on the Schilling issue will not come over no matter how eruidite we are. Most of the other camp says the "front office is doing it right". I wonder if they said the same things when we lost Clemens, Vaughn, Martinez, Lowe, Damon, and any others I might have left out (Boggs) because I guess back then the "front office was doing it right". The problem seems to be when they "do it right" the Red Sox and their fans lose. Well on to other things like who is going to be our closer and how much progress will Lester make this Spring in cracking the rotation. Adding to what you said at the end of your post. If both Beckett and Lester have good seasons we might lose Schilling. I think if he has a good year and is not resigned before the end of the season he is leaving. That will be another loss for us.
  13. I see your point. Well from my standpoint, let's hope he has that good season and can get the extention. Knowing his determination, I think he can pull it off. He did tail off the second half of last season, but then again, so did most of our team. New year, new hopes.
  14. I know Kilo thinks just as you said he does and so do you. I just fear if we wait until the season is over to deal with Schilling he might decide to go elsewhere. The best thing, of course, would be for him to have a great season for us. I want him to retire a Red Sox.
  15. No FN, you are not anti-Schilling and I don't think Kilo or RSN are either. We just have a different take on how to deal with the guy. Let's hope our camp is right and he has a helluva season so he can get that one year extention.
  16. So you wouldn't spend $13 million if he won 15-18 gamesand fashioned a 3.75 ERA? BTW, Schilling pitched two solid innings today in the Grapefruit League opener, no runs and two hits. Frankly I think he will do more of what I outlined than what you suggested. If he tanks badly I might have to reluctantly change my opinion. Are you prepared to do the same if he goes the other way and has a banner year? Again, I do have a very strong pro-Schilling bias and can never forget the sacrifice he made for his team and the great risk he took on his own. This time I hope I'm the one who is right.
  17. Right Riverside and frankly I think both camps have driven this thread into the ground. We will just have to see how this all plays out. Again, I'm a big Schilling man and can never forget what he did for our team in 2004, but the board seems split down the middle on that and we might as well just put this thread to rest for the time being.
