  1. Baker made it clear he is going with Todd Frazier as his third baseman this season Spitball. When Rolen said he might want to come back the door was closed as far as Dusty was concerned. In o ther words he doesn't want him back. Whether Rolen waited too long or not, the fact is there is no market or desire for him in Cincy, and it is my opinion that if we sign Rolen it will put undue pressure on Middlebrooks and have him looking over his shoulder. We don't need that. Once again, leave well enough alone. Rolen might say he would take a reserve role but we've heard this kind of talk before from players losing their starting jobs for their old teams and wishing to catch on somewhere. Sure, they say they will accept their role but sooner or later they are clamoring for more playing time. We've even seen this on our own team with Varitek and Wakefield demanding they play more when it was obvious they had stayed too long. If we looking for a backup, pick a backup who is a backup and would be satisfied with that spot. Rolen wouldn't. As Dupree says, end this thread.....before Cherington gets another one of his hairbrained ideas.
  2. Believe me RSNC84, it used to be worse around here about six years ago untilt the moderators finally cracked the whip and got rid of the troublemakers. The current group of punks have already been banned so I think the worst is over but it does point out how some dipshits come on baseball boards not to contribute or give their take on things but just to cause trouble by going after certain posters. I had a round of that with four or five back then. Where are those bums now? Who the hell cares?
  3. Good timing we don't seem to have and what really gripes me is that the AL East is very winnable this season, yet we may not have the starting pitching, or the catching, or the power to win it unless we fire howitzers on all cylinders. I remember in 2004 our starting five never missed a turn and that is something we could sure us this year with two of our front liners turning in big seasons. All I do know is that we will be better than last year; we just have to be.
  4. If he won't accept a bench role for the Reds, who are a better team right now than we are, it sure as hell stands to reason he will not accept one with us. Then there is the Lucchino factor. He loves veterans and should Scott start playing well there we have Middlebrooks on the bench wasting away for sent down "for more damn seasoning". No Spitball, you may be right about Rolen's character despite his problems with managers and the fact that his current one, Dusty Baker, doesn't really want him back either, but we must not put any roadblocks in Will's way. It is the surest way to ruin a good young player. My hope is that Rolen will go elsewhere, like to LA.
  5. Nothing wrong with taking a bigger paycheck, but don't swear up and down you would never do something like play for the sworn enemy and then go and sign with them. That is phoniness and hipocrisy carried to its worst degree. That's what Damon did and I despise him for it.
  6. Is there Ted? Well we can slag out the worst move the Red Sox ever made and drone on about Babe Ruth, but my worry is that it would get around to Johnny Damon who to this day brings out the very worst anger in me---the slimy t raitorous bastard. He said he would never play for the Yankees, could never play for them during the negotiations he was having with the Red Sox late in 2005. Remember that? Then what did the rat do?:angry::angry:
  7. Push WMB to be the best he could be? That's insane!!!!!! Having Rolen looking over Middlebrooks' shoulder would do nothing but let Will play nervous for fear that Farrell might be tempted to not to let well enough alone. Besides, I know of Rolen's past problems with managers. He couldn't get along with Larry Bowa because he was too tough, he couldn't get along with La Russa for the same reason. He criticized both managers on his way out. We don't want him, we don't need him to create any problems for Middlebrooks or give Farrell any wierd ideas. Let Rolen go elsewhere.
  8. Bingo Sox Sport and to Remy as well. I am getting a little upset reading all this s*** about Boegarts and third base. He can play it fine---but he is a SHORTSTOP!!!!!! Moving him to third and Middlebrooks to first is insane because they would both be playing out of position. Besides that, the players in the Majors hit the ball much harder than most of the players in the WBC and there will be pressure enough on these two guys becoming stalwarts for the Red Sox. Keep them the hell where they are and rally to the fact that we will have two clubbers on the left side of our infield for more than a decade unless the FO screws up again. Sign Dustin long term so that he finishes his career as a Red Sox and maybe switch either Swihart or Brentz to first while they are in the minors as we did with Youkilis and we may have an infield who can play together for a long time.
  9. Youk, injuries happen to players but to me the problem with Ellsbury is his unbelievable slowness in healing. He gets hurt with an injury that would take a player out for a few weeks or maybe even a month or two. With Jacoby it means practically the whole season. I have always been a big supporter of the guy, but he just doesn't seem to be able to come back when he gets hurt and I think that if such an injury occurs to him this season and he is out three or four months he will not get a big contract from anyone. He is too big a risk even with his talent.
  10. No matter how you slice it Ellsbury had better be able to stay in one piece this season and not get injured at all. We all know he is the slowest healer in the game and if he proves to be made out of tin again he will get no real big offer that he and Boras think they deserve. He would then have to sign a one year deal with the Red Sox or some other team because no club in their right mind is going to invest money on a guy who is only one bump from a three to five month stay on the disabled list.
  11. Jacko, remember those trolls from Dodger Blues back in 2007 who polluted this board? We may have one of them back. He sounds like he is here to make trouble but I think the moderator will take care of him quickly enough if he keeps stirring the pot.
  12. Compared to that troll you're in the prince category MVP. I've got a feeling where that guy came from. We had a few of those from some defunct Dodger board here about six years back and they caused nothing but trouble, even the two who eventually became friends of mine. This Cano, though, bears watching. He might not be such a bad guy after all, but his missives hint he might be trouble.
  13. Screw it!!!!! Check this guy out tomorrow, Friday, Saturday and Sunday if we have to. Make sure he is fully healed before they put him back in a game. They might also try teaching their players to simply drop the bat when they attempt a check swing. This is taught in many of the high school and college programs in California. Checking your swing can be a very dangerous maneuver since it puts tremendous pressure on the wrist. I always worked with my players to avoid doing that by simply letting the bat fall. It might look funny but it a helluva lot safer than injuring your wrist. I also wonder if Middlebrooks has had trouble with his wrists before. Some severe wrist exercises can also help.
  14. What the fu@k!!!!!!!!!! Not again.....not another season of this kind of injury s***. We have to be the most fragile team in baseball. Now we have to see how severe this injury is and whether we can get the guy back before the 4th of July. Check signals guys. I just got the news the injury is not serious. Still, I would still tae X-Rays. Our medical staff has not been known for its competence the past few years, but I just hope this good news holds.
  15. I take it Lucien that you have a pretty fair judge of what's going on and as such all you do is confirm my belief that we aren't going to see much improvement from Satalamacchia this year behind the plate, nor much in the way of a better OBP or a cutdown on his enormous strikeout total. It stands to reason that under these circumstances our starting rotation, questionable as it already is, will be at a further disadvantage having a below average receiver calling their games and handling their pitches. I only hope Lavarnway gets a chance in ST and just has a helluva good Spring and forces the Red Sox to trade Salty. Someone or some people in the front office are totally sold on this guy and have developed a severe blind spot for Jarrod. That does not bode well for us this season.
  16. Not a bad idea? Well how about not a good idea either!!!!! You're right on one thing....you don't and I don't expect huge things from him, in fact I don't expect anything from him. We are talking about the dude who went 1-10 the last time he pitched in the Major Leagues aren't we? And that was in 2010, wasn't it? He sounds like a total bust to me. It seems Cherington is acting like he's caught in a revolving door and can't find his way out.
  17. PESSIMIST!!!!!!!!!:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:
  18. I've gotten to know 700 from numerous phone conversations and you're completely wrong about the guy who I now consider a friend. Not that he or I or anyone else is beyond criticism, but I thought your attack on him was very personal. Please go lightly on this from here on in. I've been guilty of this too, many of us have, but it seems to me we have a pretty good crew on here now and I think most of the bile has disappeared. Just my advice which you can accept or reject.
  19. SFF, kuddos to you my friend and don't worry about "talking out of your ass" because you hit a home run with the bag full from where I sit. I only thought Lester might be opening up too soon watching him from the apartment seats at Wrigley last June and on my computer.....you saw it with your own eyes and were convinced that is what he was doing that was inhibiting him. Look, SFF, it anybody ought to be mad it's me because I coached baseball for 30 years and only "thought" he might be doing that. YOU SAW IT!!!!! Again, all the best. As for the optimism, 700 Hitter and I have talked about your upbeat personality and nothing wrong with that at all. We need some of that here to counteract some of the old war horses who may have become just a tad jaded. Farrell corroborated what you said and Lester looked fine today. So chalk one up in your ledger and keep the good thoughts coming. I'm with you all the way.
  20. 700 Hitter likes baseball and is an ardent and passionate Red Sox fan. He also has the reputation for being brutally honest and gave his opinion that to him things don't look so good. He is willing to watch the Red Sox to the point of him going to Fort Myers in a few days to watch the team and he isn't bothered by that. He's just telling the truth of what he believes and there are people like you and a few others who disdain of hearing a discouraging word, and later for this nursing home nonsense.
  21. To hit 25 homers is one thing but to strike out the enormous amount of times Salty does, and to have such a miserable OBA, and to play such s***** defense, and to call such a crappy game----he is more a liability than an asset. He would have to hit 35 dingers, get his OBA over the .320 mark and finally learn how to handle a pitching staff for him to be called a solid catcher. Maybe this season he will surprise but with our starting rotation I would like to see someone catching who could be a much more solid defensiveman and handler of pitchers. We can only hope that with two years under his belt Jarrod is finally going to get his stuff totally together and give us the complete season we need from him.
  22. Jacoby, seems I have more confidence your Celtics than you do. They always seem to come back. It may take a few more years but they'll be back. One or two solid players and they revive. Besides, the rest of the teams in the EC, save for Miami and maybe one other, always seem to fall on their faces. I can see a Lakers-Celtics NBA Finals in about five or six years. Hopefully my Lakers will somehow get off their snide and start playing well again.
  23. While I told Palodios that I would be elated to see Bard come back strong, we're on the same wave length here Dojii. Frankly I think Bard is close to the end of the line and it would be totally criminal if he were made the set-up man or even put on the Red Sox 25 man roster if he can't show that he has come all the way back. He shouldn't even start the season with us. He was absolutely pathetic last year and he did even worse when sent down. I know the Red Sox front office loves these comeback story lines but the fact is we have six or seven relievers who are right now better than Bard is, and the emphasis is on winning not making someone feel good.
  24. It was more than unacceptable 305, it was totally disgraceful. Here we were "celebrating" the 1oo Anniversary of Fenway Park and they put that pig of a team on the field. This year I'm going to wait to see how they're playing before I plunk down between $2,500-3,000 dollars for a trip to Boston. I hear you're going. You might do the same---be sure this team is worth the money you spend or else watch them on MLBTV or when they are on ESPN. Of course, a little piece of advice as to why you should wait until the summer. You can freeze your ass off in April and May. That wind blows in from the Bay and it goes right through you. Bard was a big topic today on this thread and there is one way the Red Sox can show if they are serious about winning or not. There must be no Auld Lang Syne for good old Bard. If he doesn't have it he put be sent down to Pawtucket or Portland to get his s*** together and my fear is that front office is trying to piece together a dramatic story of a comeback that might not be one at all in Bard's case. If he isn't one of the better relievers he has to go
  25. When you say the LA Lakers are dysfunctional, old and paper-thin, you have the perfect reason for my elation with our win last night over your Celtics. Any victory we get against a better team is cause for celebration this season, and right now at least your team has a winning record. We don't as you well know. Still, knowing how we were once 0-7 against the Celtics in NBA Finals until we finally won one in 1985, anytime we beat that team is cause for elation, and you have to admit that when those two team play they seem to rise above their mediocre play this season. I only hope I will be able to see a few more Celtics-Lakers NBA Finals before it is my time to go.
