  1. Would anyone blame him for taking that kind of money if the rumor turned out to be true? Better the Astros get him then the Yankee's. (that kind of cash might be a little to steep even for King George.....then again I could be wrong?)
  2. If its true? You have to admit that's one hell of a payday for The Rocket. (Good money for a part-time job)
  3. Weather will also be a factor, if its cold?, the knuckle won't dance as much. Mirabelli should also make a difference in Wakes confidence.
  4. NEW YORK -- Steve Howe, the relief pitcher whose promising career was derailed by cocaine and alcohol abuse, died Friday when his pickup truck rolled over in Coachella, Calif. He was 48. Howe was killed at 5:55 a.m. PT, said Dalyn Backes of the Riverside County coroner's office. The pickup truck Howe was driving left the roadway, entered the median and rolled several times, ejecting Howe from the vehicle, according to the coroner's office. The accident occurred about 130 miles east of Los Angeles. Howe was the 1980 NL Rookie of the Year with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and helped them win the World Series the next year. But for all of Howe's success on the field, the hard-throwing lefty was constantly troubled by addictions -- he was suspended seven times and became a symbol of the rampant cocaine problem that plagued baseball in the 1980s. "Steve played for me for five years and I thought the world of him," former Dodgers manager Tom Lasorda said. "I am truly sorry to hear about his passing and my deepest sympathies go out to his family." There was a moment of silence at Yankee Stadium before New York played Toronto on Friday night. Howe played for the Yankees from 1991-1996. Howe was 47-41 with 91 saves and a 3.03 ERA with the Dodgers, Minnesota, Texas and Yankees. His final season in the majors was 1996, and the Yankees released him in June. Two days after the Yankees let him go, Howe was arrested at a Delta Airlines terminal at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport when a loaded .357 Magnum was detected inside his suitcase. He later pleaded guilty to gun possession and was placed on three years probation and given 150 hours of community service. Howe tried a comeback in 1997 with Sioux Falls of the independent Northern League. In August, he was critically injured in a motorcycle accident in Montana and charged with drunken driving.

  9. Tony goes from the penthouse to the outhouse, I'll bet The Sox put sand in the Vaseline and they probably didn't even buy him dinner.
  10. Thanks for everything, Tony (In bocca al lupo! Amico Mio)
  11. Yeah, your right. Florida is full of old people, we're the dregs of society. Probably should euthanize each and everyone of us over 59 for the good of mankind. We drive slow, we don't know how to have any fun, we just generally take up space that could be put to much better use by someone in their teens or twenty's. It does my heart good to see that the older generation is thought so highly of by today's youth.
  12. MLB Red Sox v. Yankees NFL Giants v.Redskins AFL Denver Broncos v. Boston Patriots USFL Denver Gold v. Arizona Wranglers NBA Boston Celtics v. Syracuse Nationals NHL Bruins v. Rangers
  13. Johnny Damon is Human. Did he mean it when he said: "He'd never play for the Yankees" Probably. Did he mean it when he said: "He loved it in Boston and loved the fans" I believe he did. Why did he go to the Yankees then? We'll never really know? We're only fans, we're not insiders, all we know is what we're told, we can guess and speculate and draw our on conclusions all we want, but are they right?......... That's the question. Each and everyone of us contradicts ourselves constantly and for a astronomical number of reasons, it's easy for us to justify our own contradictions because we made them, and seeing as how we made them then there legitimate. "We reserve the right to change our own minds" But, if someone else changes their mind then that's cause for question. That great man we both spoke of didn't differentiate between winners and losers, he didn't judge anyone.....that's what made him who he was. Comparing winners to losers and judging people......that's what makes who we are.
  14. A man once said: "Let those without sin...cast the first stone"
  15. Adam Vinatieri "I f***ing Hate The Colts. Don't Give Me Any Of This "thanks For The Memories" ********. If This s*** Is True Adam Is Worse Than Johnny. He Is Nothing To Me And We Must Burn An Effigy Of Him Before The Afc Championship Next Year"......................Youkilis rules. Bronson Arroyo "Look if you're not good enough to be on the team then we're going to trade you. I dont care if you signed for a hometown discount ... if you can't cut it ... goodbye"..................MC Hammer Johnny Damon "hate him. hate roger. always will. i hope his weak arm falls off trying to throw out crisp on an inside the park home run!!!".............................Vegassoxfan I never thought I'd side with a Yankee fan on anything concerning the Red Sox. But, TheRivernator is right on this one. I've been a Sox fan for 50 years and it's shameless how some fans react to departing players. The word for a long time was that players didn't want to come to Boston, because of the media and the fans, the media I could believe, but I always thought that New England sports fans were above this. It really has turned into the "What Have You Done For Me Lately" generation.
  16. Arroyo Traded to Reds Think other players agents might be watching this? Red Sox hometown discount....The big print giveth and the small print taketh away.
  17. If you think the WBC was put on for anything other then promoting the product then your sadly mistaken. If baseball truly wanted to unite the fans of all the participating country's then why weren't the games free? Baseball could have easily picked up the tab and shown it's goodwill. Cuba wants to host a game on the next go around, will they get one? No, and it's not because of it's political standing, Cuba has no money. Right now, theres no profit in Cuba. The money that's made during spring training goes to the team and the city where the camp is held. This is dead time for MLB. The WBC is a way for MLB to capitalize on dead time
  18. Baseball is entertainment. Entertainment is a business. The business of baseball is to generate profit for the owners of the team. The brain-trust of a team then determines how much money they want to spend on a star player. By adding a star player to a roster the first thing they look at is, "Helping the team Win" than "Name Recognition and Marketability" Johnny Damon has both. He can help you win and he's marketable. The Yankees profit-margin on merchandise alone went up just by linking Damon's name to them. The Red Sox felt he wasn't worth $53 million over 4 years. The Yankees felt he was, the Yankees set the price and the Red Sox could have matched it if they wanted....they chose not too, (and that's bull s*** about them not knowing anything about the Yankee deal. It's their jobs to know everything concerning the Red Sox...everything and at any given time) Capitalism is what this country is all about. If someone wants to pay you more for doing exactly the same thing your doing now, are you going to turn it down? are your family and friends going to look unfavorably upon you and wish you failure because you took a job paying more money? In a perfect world, Loyalty would rank high above money. Unfortunately, this is not a perfect world, cash talks....bull s*** walks, it's the game we all play, it's the real world.
  19. Show me anyone in baseball from the top down that's not in it for the money. Playing for the love of the game is an idea that's long gone.
  20. Maybe he was? but he had my quote up.
  21. Why would I hate Rivera for pulling that on the Yankees???
  22. Isn't hating someone and wishing them failure a little childish, granted he is a Yankee now. But, most of the posts that I've seen on here Sox fans didn't want him back anyway. Also, it didn't seem like the Sox wanted him back either. So, what I'm getting out of this is, if Johnny Damon would have went to the Angels or the Rangers or any other team in baseball that would have been expectable, but him going to the Yankees is unexcitable. But, I'd be willing to bet, that if Mariano Rivera decided to come to the Sox (and this is only hypothetical) that would be expectable. So what we have is a Double Standard.
  23. Congratulations Tito, You deserved it.
