  1. Yes, but he was bad as a closer. He's a really good reliever, i used to love the dodgers because of the mota gagne punch that was nasty for awhile. Mota is really good. I guess he could close, hes a better option than timlin if foulke shits the bed and we need to give hansen some time up before we throw him into the fire. And thats not an knock on timlin, its a compliment to Mota. I like Mota a lot. All of a sudden we have a pitching staff.
  2. Garcia throws hard with some good control, i think thats his thing, control. Throws mostly all fastballs but has a decent curveball and pretty s***** change up. He was an ok prospect, nothing to lose sleep over.
  3. Whhhoooa
  4. There was something on MLB.com that said they were extending it until tomorrow for them, so we'll know if Beckett is healthy or not tomorrow. He already had a clean bill of health given to him at the end of the season. The sox are just taking their time checking the merchandise, because this is a monster trade. So, pretty much, Beckett officially becomes a red sock tomorrow.
  5. I don't think the deal has the potential to KILL us, because we really aren't giving up a whole lot for this. Sanchez is iffy, but i did like him a lot but i knew he was iffy then with all the injuries. The closest player to contributing for the sox in this deal was jesus delgado, there was some talk about him coming up to the big club early if their bullpen struggled. Hanley wasn't ever going to play in a Boston uniform anyways. It has the chance to either really help us, or break even.
  6. thats standard, i think its quiet because of the holiday. they obviously want to make sure that they arent giving up two top prospects for a guy whose shoulder is going to deteriorate. They probably also want to make sure that the cancer lowell had in 99 has no chance of coming back also, that could be a factor. A lot of times its in remission with the possibility of returning, but i think hes out of the woods if it happened in 99. Probably just out. Its no big deal, they will announce tomorrow that its done. I think all the question is on the red sox side. They want to be thorough and make sure that becketts shoulder is fine before doing it and then it will be done.
  7. He could, hes not a bad pitcher. See, Jaret Wright is a bad pitcher, not only did he have the leaving the NL for the AL factor against him, but he also has the leaving Leo Mazzone for someone who isn't Leo Mazzone factor going against him as well. Wright won't bounce back most likely. Pavano is a good pitcher, he could bounce back. I don't think he is Josh Beckett good, or Johan Santana nasty, but I think he could win 15+ with that offense no problem and have an ERA around 3.50 give or take.
  8. Carl Pavano also didn't pitch that poorly in AL. He just got hurt for most of the season.
  9. Nope, hes got a year left on his deal. Next look for Lo Duca to get traded.
  10. Yeah, as a sox fan that worries me. With theo leaving, I'm left wondering what the sox philosophy is and now I know the yankees philosophy is exactly what I don't want it to be. See, the longer George locks Cashman in the basement and signs all the old veterans he fell in love with 5 years ago to 6 yeah 80 million dollar deals, the happier I am. Now that thats done with, I'm worried. Well, not worried, but the yankees will be competitive. It will take them sometime to rebuild the farm system, but three years from now, they'll be where the sox are now. Hopefully the sox don't lose ground.
  11. I wouldn't send them youkilis.
  12. rowand had some value on the trade market. stellar defense with some good offense. thome has a bad back and probably some prescription painkillers, but beyond that everything about him is a question mark. this is a bad baseball move. it really makes them no better.
  13. The phillies just struck gold. And the white sox just bent over and took it like a sally while the philles had their way with them. I hope the white sox don't get Konerko, I hope hes insulted and won't talk to them. I think though they might have DH plans for Thome, which leaves the door open for Konerko to come back. They basically just felt that their team wouldn't be the same without a overly large hurt guy with frank thomas gone so they opted to over pay for the oger with back issues. I mean come on, whats a world series without a fat hurt guy on the DL to share it with?
  14. YES! I was waiting for someone to say that. Good man. I still think manny will be here in 06. I could be wrong. IMO, I will not do any deal for manny that doesn't bring us back a quality starting pitcher under or around the age of 26. Is that realistic? Eh, it isn't likely, but I wouldn't say its crazy talk. Could it happen? maybe. Not likely, but thats my asking price. I also would NOT give up any prospect in a deal where I trade manny. PS - I by no means think that giving up shoppach, alvarez, jesus delgado, sanchez and hanley in an offseason, is excessive. Not when you have Hansen, Delcarmen, Papelbon, Lester, Pedroia, Moss, Murphy, Harvey Garcia and Edgar Martinez. another random jumbled post by me.
  15. I don't think manny is all but gone. Do you know how many times ramirez has made an ultimatum like this? Could they trade him, yes, will they? I don't know, I think its up in the air, just like it was a month ago. Manny is not tuned into the same frequency as other people. If he is here, he will play hard and probably won't realize too much what city he is in. In all seriousness, he will play and play hard. He can't hold out, he can't retire, all he can do is hope for a trade. I do think his value will never be as high as it is right now, and I think that there will be some trades seriously discussed, but I don't know the outcome. I don't think he is all but gone.
  16. Well, that depends on what we get for Manny and who we sign in this offseason. It also depends on who the yankees get.
  17. Manny has 10-5, manny wants west manny gets west or stays. Manny goes west.
  18. Well, the marlins have to sell their talent because they don't have the money to keep a competitive team on the field for very long. Young talent is very hard to get, but very cheap to keep around until they hit free agency. So what the marlins are doing is trading their good vets, for excellent prospects that will cut the payroll way down. They just traded us 12 million per year in salary in Lowells big contract, and Becketts arbitration for a couple of kids who total maybe 1 million altogether, maybe not even. They're talking about going to vegas so they dont have to do this again. In vegas they will probably get enough fans to come out to the games where they wont have to sell their talent, they'll be able to pay for their guys to stick around past their first year of arbitration. No one cares about baseball in florida. I personally think they should put a team in new mexico or portland oregon. Vegas wouldnt be bad though.
  19. yeah, i really don't see the seattle mariners giving him up though, his stuff is unbelievable and hes 19
  20. Yeah, I think manny would have rejected a trade to the Mets anyways. I think manny will go west. I heard something one of my friends said he read in a Gammons article for ESPN Insider that they're exploring a trade to seattle for Felix Hernandez and one more prospect. I don't know about that, simply because if I'm seattle, I'd be hanging on to felix for my life, I'd never let him go for anything.
  21. How can you call him garbage? Hes certainly not garbage, he averages a strike out per inning and has a 95 mph fastball with good control and good sink, and a great curve. Hes 25, hes 6 months older than Papelbon, his career has just started. He only has, what? like 4 seasons under his belt? Papelbon is going to be an ace caliber pitcher but news flash, he isn't going to log 200 innings in the next 3 seasons, or strike out 200, and probably won't win 20. That doesn't mean he doesn't have electric stuff, it doesnt mean he isn't a good pitcher. It means he isnt ready. The Sox just gave up three prospects(Allen Iverson says: "We here to talk about prospects? Talkin' bout prospects? Not a game, Prospects?") for a pitcher who may gearing up to his prime right now and has gotten better every single year he has been in the majors. When he gets stronger and more durable, he wil be an ace. Beckett is no different than papelbon, he is still in the beggining of his career, he could still be considered a prospect, its just that hes been up in the majors for so long for such a young kid, and he has shown flashes of greatness. I think he will log more innings this year than ever before, Francona is good with managing his starters (cant say the same for his bullpen skills) but hes good at getting the most mileage out of his guys. He won't be running beckett out on the mound for 7 or 8 innings a start. I think that could make the difference because McKeon does have a reputation for really working his pitchers and I know that although beckett only went the distance twice, I bet he went into the ninth a few more times and I bet he pitched into the 8th even more often. It isn't fair to call him garbage because you don't know that yet, its too early. And aside from that, this is a red sox forum, so you can expect alittle celebration when we acquire a 24 soon to be 25 year old ace, so maybe you should probably just leave it be.
  22. yep, i think that beckett will be fine, no sense arguing about it now, well see next year how well he does. he did fine in the 03 world series.
  23. Clemens had them too early in his career. I'm very optimistic about this trade. More and more. If Beckett passes this physical, I think any doubt anyone has about his shoulder should be forgotten because this is gonna be a tought physical to pass im sure. Blister issues to me are no big deal. I get blisters from my split and while they hurt like a bitch, they usually hurt afterwards and not during, and there are some pretty nice remedies at Olympia Sports, so whatever, ill buy the cream for him if he wants, its not a big deal.
  24. Sorry for the double post, but, is there any truth to the cardinals inquiring about Clement? and if so any rumors about who they would send? I don't know if this is true but I heard something of it in school today.
  25. I don't like JD Drew, I really hope we keep manny. I think that if Lowell can take advantage of the monster he could be good, im not expecting it, but this lineup could be scary, I really wanna see Manny in this lineup, now more than ever.
