I think that you would have to pay more for troy glaus other than just having the angels send prospects and sending wells. I personally would do that deal, ive heard similar deals thrown around in articles and to me I think this is the kind of thing that could get put together. And yeah, our rotation would fill out somehting like Schilling Beckett Papelbon Santana Vazquez with Wake and Arroyo in the pen, since both wake and arroyo are guys who have pitched out of the pen before and have expressed their willingness to do it again. Clement would be somewhat the odd man out, my bet is that he is sent somewhere else this offseason regardless of where ramirez goes or if he stays. I still think the odds of Ramirez staying are alittle bit more favorable than a trade, but the more I read into it, the more I start to think that this is alittle more real than i thought and he could be dealt.

I think vazquez is underrated and hasn't reached his full potential, im not saying this guy is going to be great, but i think vazquez in the right place has the potential to be very consistent through out a season. I think there have been outstanding circumstances that have led to his decline in the 2nd half of the last two seasons. At the all star break he began to tire but nothing too bad and he had a conversation with a pitcher from another team who said something along the lines of when you tire pull off towards first base on your fastball to put alittle more on it. I remember the Baseball Tonight crew showing film of how that messed up his mechanics and made him go alittle wild. This second half it was supposedly his family being out of touch that rattled him. I'm not saying otherwise he would have pitched like Koufax, but I am saying that if he could fit into a rotation he could be a 15-18 game winner easily and a 3.20 - 3.90 ERA guy. From a five spot? Thats impressive. At least his second half declines didnt come from getting bopped off the coconut by a Carl Crawford line drive and there is some uncertaintly about his future or anything. *cough* clement. sorry if this stuff is incoherent, im really tired.

Marlins get: Mayor Menino, Margret Papelbon (jons mother) and Dustin Pedroia Sox Get: D-train, Create -a- Player with full stats, and cash and bat boys. sounds like an awesome deal, if i were larry luchino i'd do that in a heart beat even though Ms. Papelbon throws gas and has a nasty corkscrew. Sorry, but yeah, I think i have mentioned this once before and never really got a good response back or any at all, probably got lost in the shuffle, but what would you guys think about this. The sox would send Manny to the Angels for Erstad and Ervin Santana. Erstad gives us a good glove at first and an O.K. bat. He reminds me a lot of Bill Mueller with alittle less consistency sometimes at the plate. Ervin Santana is a young stud. 2nd part, since I don't think that erstad and santana is quite enough to pry manny away from me, the Angels then send prospects to the DiamondBacks and they would send Javier Vasquez to the sox. The sox would also send Wells to the D-Backs who would be a valuable presence on a young team who could push for a playoff birth next year if they had a good offseason. Eh? Eh?

Yag, the sox should sign erik for a 5 year deal and 17 million pack-dacks. Please dayve? erm, yeah sorry, boredom at 10 at night avoiding some hw. I like soriano a lot at the plate but his defense is truly horrendous. He plays defense like he doesn't care. Sure, hes athletic, but he can't catch a beach ball. I don't think that you trade your future away for a guy like Soriano. I think if you trade manny, and not that this would ever happen, but if you could get the team recieving manny to send prospects to the rangers and somehow pry Soriano from their grasp that way, maybe, sure why not. I personally would have no interest in giving up my own teams future for him because I don't think hes a long term solution for 2nd base in boston. He would play here for one season and then command too much money for the sox to have a chance to resign him when we have pedroia waiting in the wings. I would rather see an Eckstein-esque player like Pedroia at second base, then a bad glove man with an pretty good power bat, like soriano. My take, sorry if it was jumbled, im thinking about the Electoral College right now, writing a paper on that its really exciting if you don't have anything to do on a friday night I highly reccomend you devote your night to learning all the ins and outs of it...

Awesome post, I agree. They are getting the world and thats why all along I say that we keep him. If we do trade him however, I've got a list of demands. Starting pitcher at or under the age of 25(ervin santana), and prospects good ones, OR Starting pitcher at or under the age of 25 and a slugger. I don't mean jeff kent, I don't mean cliff floyd, I mean an established and consistent major league slugger to the tune of carlos delgado, or konerko, or say beltran. Thats what I ask for Manny. I don't take .75cents on the dollar just because traditional wisdom says I would have to with the size of his contract. No way, jorge.
-
Clement is, I like arroyo for the bullpen and the sox do too i believe, I read something where they had plans to utilize him there. I think hes worth more to us than anybody else. Clement, eh, trade him so we can have room to get a starting pitcher in return if we run manny out of town, or if we sign someone or decide to bring up young blood.
-
Mueller is gone.
-
Beane will soak us, he won't give up Zito cheap. Apparently though he plans to keep Zito right now. I don't disagree with him either, because hes quietly built himself one of the best staffs in baseball and i think that the A's might be something to mess with next year.
-
I don't think he is a defensive improvement at first at all. Roosters got points, mad points. I love youkilis, I think he has a spot on this team and I do think they will keep him. Hes a valuable hitter and has good defensive instincts, just not the best range (fat) but rooster makes good points. But with an OBP like that I think they will find somewhere for him. Something interesting brough up by the big-o the other night, with Lowell clearly being the superior fielder, would he be more suited to play outside of his natural position? With youkilis being more than adequate at 3rd and lowell being an outstanding glove man, maybe they put Lowell at first because he could make the change more smoothly, and youkilis stays at 3rd his natural position.

since when is .280 a bad batting average? and all that matters is obp anyways. If he is getting on base 4 times out of ten, thats great. thats absolutley great. Who cares if hes hitting or walking? I don't. Hes more than an average fielder, from what ive seen. Yeah, average arm, yeah below average speed but on a team with all this offensive effeciency who says you have to have power from the corners when you get some much of it from the catcher the left fielder and the DH? You're power is better if distributed in the right places throughout the lineup, who cares where it comes from when we're playing defense. Separate defense from offense, you don't NEED hitting from the corners, you need someone who knows how to play the corner.
-
Yeah, you can't expect to trade foulke for shields. I don't think you can get a guy of that ilk in return although if the angels want to do it, I'd do it.
-
I hate the guy, a lot. I think this is funny.
-
Yeah, I actually really like his name too, I think the sox really want to find a place for him to play, so I have a feeling he will. BTW, evan, you go to newton south don't you?
-
Does anybody happen to have a copy of the updated 40 man roster on hand, ive been looking around the boards and other sites and can't find it.
-
People are always going to hype up players of their team when they first arrive on the roster. Its just the way things work. Could Josh Beckett be awful? Yes, if he spends the whole season on the DL, but if healthy, he will be an ace. Will mota be lights out? No, but he will be steady, he'll have an era between 2.50 and 3.50 and he won't let up many long balls. Is mike lowell gonna hit 30 and drive in 100. No, not a chance, he could fizzle and not do anything at the plate all season long, he could really be terrible. Or he could make a comeback and hit .270 and 15-25 homeruns and drive in 75-85 runs. With the monster out in left field, for a dead red pull hitter, it can do wonders.
-
Mota can totally dominate, but don't expect him to post an ERA under 2 again, although he'll do well.
-
Yeah, I'm not even convinced vlad is actually a professional baseball player. Have you ever been a game hes played in? Did you check him for I.D.? I wouldn't trade manny for him, cause who knows you might be getting some accountant back, who needs an accountant?
-
Even small market teams will lock guys up for long term deals from time to time. The devil rays just locked up baldelli for six years like two weeks ago. You don't need to be the yankees to do that. This contract is big money, but its not big money every year. Its not like he got 12 million a year for 5 years, hes getting something like 7 or 8 I forget what the contract is exactly. This is an ok move, if he does very well, they have a good farm system they could back load the contract and trade him to a contender in the 3rd year of this deal and have someone from within take over the job. Its not a terrible baseball decision.

I wouldn't say their a dime a dozen, but a good relief pitcher often tends to fade quickly, that just adds to the league wide scramble for dependable bullpen pitchers.
-
I don't think they need a lefty. There isn't really a need for a lefty in your rotation, but more in your bullpen. You build your rotation based on the talent of the pitchers, the 5 most talented pitchers on your roster fill out the rotation regardless of which hand they throw the ball with. I think capuano has a career ERA close to 5, I'm too lazy to look that up right now, but there are already 5 pitchers on this team more talented than he is.
-
There is no way if you're the Red Sox you can just expect to give up Youk, Clement, Arroyo and cash and bring back sheets and overbay. Sheets was just locked up in an extension and isn't going anywhere. They love him there. Overbay might be worth Clement and Youk, but I wouldn't pay for Clement to go. I actually really like the Geoff Jenkins idea, but not as a starter in RF, because I also see no way Nixon can hack it in center. We need a 4th rh outfielder and jenkins fits the bill. If we needed to include a 2nd rate prospect along with Clement and Youk, I could see it happening. Perhaps brandon moss? who knows, all speculation. I see us with an outfield of Manny Damon and Nixon in 06, no changes there but I do think Overbay is a possibility. Others being Gonzalez and Huff and Konerko. Huff's OBP has been on the decline the last three years and Gonzalez is relativley unproven. Konerko's 2003 was a Mike Lowell-esque drop off. He was revived in 04 and 05, but he hit 29 of his 41 homeruns in 04 in comiskey park, and although Fenway is no pitchers paradise, comiskey is especially cozy and when a guy doesn't hit on the road it worries me to take him out of his ball park. There are guys with swings meant for certain parks, Konerko could be one of those guys although i haven't seen his spray chart. In 04 and 05 comiskey or us cellular whatever its called was the home of the most homeruns in the majors, but then again, safeco is known as a pitchers paradise and it was second. I guess I'm just not a trusting guy, that could be all for nothing, he is a very good hitter but I like Overbay in fenway more than Konerko because Overbay strokes a lot of doubles and Konerko doesn't. I love doubles guys in fenway.

I don't think this takes them out of the Burnett running at all. I think they were looking to make a splash and I think they have and will continue to. They're expanding payroll, and I think that they would expand further for Burnett, even in a bidding war. I'm really not to shocked either, this move makes perfect sense for them, and although he has the ugliest delivery in baseball, he will help them with some of those one run ball games they lost last year. and chacin is in no way their arroyo. Arroyo is 29 and his upside is starting to run out. Chacin is 25 with still a lot of upside. He's a really good pitcher, he had a great first half and I think one of these years hes really going to put it together.
-
I don't think so, i think that most likely it will get cut to on ESPN News or something. I don't know that its an event worth staying home for, it will probably be watched by ESPN for about 5 minutes and then they will cut out to some shots of anika sorenstam driving the ball better than tiger or something
-
I assume monday, they usually don't do that stuff on the weekend. It was probably alittle much to coordinate in one day. Rowand was just one guy, its probably hard to find 3 ball players and sit 'em all down in one room around thanksgiving. Mota probably wasn't in the U.S. I want to see that too though, I love those press conferences.
-
Yeah, it was on sosh and rotoworld to. Nothing on MLB.com yet, but wow this is a big deal. The Jay's got beat up in one run games this year, but they scored more runs then they gave up. They clearly want to right that, and i think this is a big step in that direction.
