  1. Very solid start by clement against a rather underrated tampa lineup. I am impressed.
  2. Ortiz has bunted like that before... safely.
  3. Hansen will close, he has the potential to be down right lights out. As good as Papelbon is, he has the off speed stuff - splitter slider change - to last the innings to be a starter and Hansen might be better than him in one inning based on pure stuff.
  4. Please don't write all these prospects into positions. We're going to trade some of those guys away, and others won't work out. Pickney is not our future 3B, while Lowrie is impressive, don't bank on him. Same for Ellsbury and Bucholz. Don't count on these kids. I guarentee that is not how our team will look at any point in time.
  5. I have the feeling Wells is calling the quits, so no telling how long he will be in the rotation. Its been kicked around on EEI, and SOSH as a possibility. He's definetly out after this year. I think he will make one more shot at a come back, but he has the same knee problem as foulke and he is a lot older than foulke. Call it a hunch, but considering the time Foulke was out last year, I think you can count on Wells to spend significant time on the DL if not have to miss the season. I think he may be done. Dinardo could stick in the rotation, if Foulke can assume the closer role, he will and Papelbon will come in relief for multiple innings. He will probably come in a lot when Dinardo pitches, like Seanez did, to stretch him out. When Hansen is ready, they call him up, move Papelbon to the rotation. Purely speculation but its got some logic behind it. This is all assuming Clemens doesn't come to Boston. If he does, that changes everything.
  6. I recoil after my thows kinda like Pedro, which means I'll probably have shoulder problems kinda like pedro. I kick my leg with my knee pointed toward the SS kinda like Kevin Brown. I don't have a batting stance, I kinda just stand there and pull my hands in as best I can and try to drive it. I usually ground out. Its cool.
  7. I don't think he did 2 innings very often, even in 04.
  8. It isn't that hes not hitting well, its that he can't catch. He was hitting .300 going into yesterday, and hes really rocketed the ball. Sure, hes struck out, but I watched him last year in cinci and he took way less pitches than he has taken thus far. His bat isn't the problem, its his glove.
  9. Loved Mueller, but he wasn't coming back. Bad knees. But you can't complain about Lowell because without taking Lowell, you don't get Beckett.
  10. Foulke isn't a two inning closer.
  11. And everyone was talking about Loretta not hitting enough on EEI, low batting average my ass.
  12. Youkilis and Loretta just made me so happy.
  13. Yes Loretta!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. I have muchas faith in Loretta.
  15. Very good start for Dinardo, even though Seanez gave up some runs, I think what he showed was promising. He showed he can get strike outs. Thats big. Now is the real test for our bullpen. We know they can win one run games with a lead, but can they hold out long enough for the sox to get a lead? Paps can definetly give us two today. It will be interesting to see how they use him, if they use him in more than 2 innings, there is a chance they are thinking about putting him in the rotation and are using this as a way to stretch him out.
  16. Watching FSN was terrible. Those guys who do their play by play are total idiots. Finally someone who feels my pain.
  17. Every time someone makes contact the people at Fenway cheer like its going over the monster.
  18. Ortiz is the man. Thats great.
  19. I don't think so no. I saw him around 96 all game long once I turned on nesn. The gun on FSN actually had him at 85 all game. He was around 96 all game long. The strike out of Beltre was 96, that was just on TV just now so I can vouche for that one.
  20. People will pull their heads out of the sand when its more obvious how good Pena actually is. Rightfield in fenway is tough, and Pena didn't come with a good history in the field. To play right at Fenway effectively almost calls for the skill set of a centerfielder. He's new, its a unique field, and hes not so great with the glove. Hes got a power arm, a power bat, and hes young. This was a good move. In two years, when Pena is in the everyday lineup, and he hits the cover off the ball, people will be buying Pena jerseys and forgetting how they wanted to kill him and bring back arroyo and hang Theo for making this move. He'll eventually play left, he will look better out there than he does in right and his arm will really shrink the diamond out there, no one will be getting wall ball doubles against this kid. Arroyo is average, taking a chance on a potentially great hitter for an average pitcher is well worth it.
  21. They have different stuff, but your wrong here. Beckett is a better pitcher, no question about it, but Clement has very very good stuff. Stop putting him down because its the trendy thing to do right now. Clement is a solid pitcher with ace stuff. These are two different pitchers here. Clement relies on different things to get people out, that doesn't mean his stuff isn't as good. Beckett can blow 97 mph heat by people and make them dizzy with a ridiculous curve. While Clement can back you off the plate with his slider, jam you with his fastball, and make you watch his cutter jump into the zone for strike 3. When he is good, that is what he does. They work differently, and yeah Beckett is the better pitcher, but I wouldn't neccessarily make the assumption that Beckett has 'superior' stuff just because he has gotten better results. If Clement had the mental make up of Beckett, its scary to think of the s*** Clement could do.
  22. Jeter is one of my favorite players, gay or not, he down right plays. But yeah Jeter gets hot chicks, its crazy.
  23. High to low 80's? What is that? Clement's slider is as good as there is in baseball. Don't kid yourself. Clements fastball is in the high 88's and touches 90, but velocity is only one component in a good fastball. His stuff moves. Clement's mental game puts him as a #3 starter, but he has the pure stuff to be an ace if he went right after hitters. He always nibbles and gets himself in trouble.
  24. Hitters will make adjustments. Baseball is all about adjustments. He is a major league pitcher and when those adjustments come, Beckett will battle back. His ERA obviously isn't going to stay at 1.29 or whatever it is, but don't be surprised when he has an ace season.
  25. I wouldn't be so quick to insult Clements stuff. Clement has ace stuff, make no mistake about it. He loses focus and especially in the second half he runs into big innings. Its more of a mental edge that he loses. His stuff is down right filthy.
